The Chameleon's True Colors

Rate this book
Chameleon is sad because he doesn’t have a color of his own. He borrows yellow from the sun, pink from an orchid, and orange from a tiger, but will there be enough color for everyone? With gorgeous, colorful illustrations and a message about the power of giving, The Chameleon’s True Colors is the picture book every family needs on their shelf.

I just want to start off by saying, the illustrations in this book are SO beautiful. Honestly, some of the most beautiful pictures and colors I think I have ever seen. As I was reading the story, I wasn't quite sure if there was going to be a deeper message aside from a general colors book. In the end, the chameleon realizes that by taking his friends' colors, they were colorless so he returns their colors. Now he can borrow them whenever.

Kind of interesting. How could you use this to teach a lesson? The only way I could really think was about being yourself, not trying to be like everyone else. Maybe sharing? Learning about why animals (tigers, peacocks, ladybugs, etc) in nature have specific colors?

I think the lesson is not extremely obvious, but there is a lot of ways you could do with it. The illustrations are so beautiful though that I would love to have it on my own shelf.

A Delightful Story and Fun Read

In THE CAMELEON’S TRUE COLORS, deep in the jungle we meet Chameleon who has the power to pull color from others. Yuliya Pankratova has written a simple yet powerful story and illustrated it with stirring and colorful artwork. It will delight readers of all ages.

The opening pages begin with an almost monotone void of color appearance of a chameleon. Then he looks up at the sun with brilliant yellow and he turns yellow. Simple words combine with attractive illustrations as the chameleon explores and absorbs different colors. The process turns his world black and white, then he returns the colors.

THE CAMELEON’S TRUE COLORS entertains children and parents. I highly recommend this book.

I love this gorgeous book that not only teaches children about some of the beautiful colors found in nature, but also an important lesson in how to share and take only what you need.

From the beautiful endpages, to the vibrant illustrations inside, you'll enjoy following an initially colorless Chameleon's journey through the jungle as he meets different flowers, bugs and animals, and learns about their colors and why they are important to them.

In his amazement at the beautiful colors he's turned, he doesn't realize at first that he hasn't left any color for everyone else. He realizes that these aren't his colors to keep, and selflessly returns them to their rightful owners. In gratitude, his new friends allow him to borrow them whenever he wants.

I received a copy of this beautiful book for review purposes, and used it for a nursery drama lesson. The learning aim was; to identify different colours and the well-being aim was; to understand the importance of sharing. Nursery had a wonderful time bringing the text to life and used their new found skills supported them in their art class after.

An absolutely beautiful book! Genuinely such an important message to be sharing with children would recommend for parents and teachers a like - a very important and nuanced tale of developing empathy. The illustrations are also stunning - really hope some prints are released in time too. Highly recommend!

Breathtaking! This book is incredibly gorgeous from start to finish. Although it can be read and enjoyed on a joyful, light level, the content also invites age-appropriate dialogue about self-love, other-awareness, empathy, and the importance of community. What a gem!

A cute origin story for why chameleons can change their colour. Loved the black and white page that showed everyone drained of colour! Would be good for home or storytime reading as the first book of the session.

A truly lovely book with a really cool storyline about how the chameleon got to change its colors. Only reason it's not a 5 is cuz I don't think it's a must- read. I do think everyone who reads it will enjoy it, however.
