Kontra's Menagerie #28
ArMaDillo Packin'
Ronald Oleander, Ronnie to his friends, has been looking forward to this road trip for months, ever since he'd aced the test for his motorcycle license. With the wind on his face, he follows Noah and Adam-his older brother and his brother's mate-through winding back roads. Their destination is a small town in Wisconsin where they're meeting up with Adam's old biker gang. Ronnie has been warned the place is homophobic and never to go anywhere alone. Except, when he arrives, the first thing he notices is an enticing smell. Ronnie wanders around the back of the diner to investigate and finds a pair of humans pounding on a smaller guy. Breaking up the fight, he sends the jerks packing. When he focuses on the beaten man, he discovers he's the source of the smell-and is also not only a shifter, but his mate-Hector Ramirez, an armadillo shifter. At barely twenty-one, Ronnie didn't expect to find the other half of his soul so soon, and he doesn't feel ready. Still, he can't deny his instincts. For better or worse, can Ronnie accept not only a mate but figure out a way to stop the people after him?

I was excited when I saw this one was Ronnie’s book. With him being so young I actually hadn’t even expected him to get one. I really liked him in Adam and Ronnie’s older brother Noah’s book. Plus, a moose and an armadillo OMG! Too funny.
This was more like the original Kontra’s Menagerie books and come to think of it most of the starting characters were there. The rest were left at the hotel/campground and not mentioned.
Overall it was a good story just not overwhelmingly so. I’d expected more of a problem with Hector’s old alpha at the end. Then again I anticipate a book with the guy Juan who left with them so perhaps there’ll be more in another book? As usual, the book just kinda ended unexpectedly which always leaves me disappointed.

On an odyssey trip through the Stone Ridge World series in order. Almost 200 of them! Individually I usually rate them a 3/5 - there is only so much an author can do in a short story or novella, and because there are several overarching plots and each book has a mini plot that does not always get wrapped up - the individuals are okay as a stand alone. Some of them bomb and come in as 2/5 as they have holes. A few actually managed to hit 4/5. However; as a series binge they become a satisfying smorgasbord of reading.

An old style Kontra's Menagerie story. Man meets his mate. There is a little drama and the problems are solved in the end.
Ronnie is now grown up and going on a ride with his older brother Noah to meet up with Kontra. When he follows a lovely scent he ends up saving his mate, Hector.
Hector is running from problems in his home town. With a little help from Kontra and his gang Hector's problems are sorted out.
An enjoyable, quick, read with a happy ending for all.

This was a sweet and interesting story which was short but fun. It was nice seeing Kontra's pack again. I loved the characters and the ending was heartwarming. Good story.

This felt so unfinished. Much more than normal, I should say.

Kontra has acquired a large diverse family. No matter who or what you are the family will always have your back and the back of those related to you.
