Useful book, better than I thought in advance. Some definitions of the symbol are very good, spot-on, even witty. But the persistence of the writer in the term "synthema", as being better, and not only different, to symbol, needs more attention. The term synthema was exaclty the word the anciecnt theurgists were using. For example, in the work of Iamblichus or in the Chaldaic Oracles the term senthema refers to the symbolic statues, amulets, stones, etc., or the nomina barbara that were used in the neoplatonic rites. From this point of view is very probably that the selection of the term is interesting and meaningful.
The occult tone of the study isn't too much annoying.
