The Greek God of the Underworld has turned my life completely upside-down and made me question everything I thought I knew about my life.
And now I don’t even know who I am anymore. An internal war rages inside me, as I try to balance my need for more magic with the knowledge of what power does to people in Olympus. What it may have done to me in the past.
The one thing I do know though, is that my feelings for Hades are real. The Lord of the Dead is so much more than I ever realized, and something inside me knows that I need him as much as he needs me. But between the Hades Trials, the other Olympians, and whoever it is that’s trying to kill me, I may not survive long enough to find a way for us to be together.
Hades says a light so bright can’t live in the dark. But I’m not sure a life without him is worth living.
Eliza Raine writes Greek mythology inspired fantasy that is fast paced, full of new worlds and creatures and sprinkled with a healthy dose of romance. I’ve been waiting for this book since the moment I finished the last one and unfortunately I have to say I’m a little disappointed. Once again the previous novel left us on a cliffhanger that is resolved in the first 5% of the next one. We ended the last book with Hades sending Persephone back to the human world. She’s a little devastated but it’s all fine because Hecate shows up and takes her back to the underworld. So this big, dramatic separation lasted for less than a day. It all seemed a little pointless, adding nothing to the story and clearly a plot to get people to buy the next book. I really liked the concept and idea of the story but I feel it was let down in execution. It’s marketed as a novel for adults but reads more like a novel for teenagers. The exceptions are a sex scene and the use of the word fuck that is meant to make Persephone seem more adult and is used when she is angry but for me it didn’t work and actually made her seem more childish. I think the story would have benefited from being slowed down a lot more and lengthened as I read it in just a few hours. We barely get to see any of the underworld. We don’t even really get to see Persephone or Hades have quieter moments where they can just be together and get to know each other again. We have the addition of Persephone’s human brother but again he doesn’t add anything to the story just accepting the gods and underworld fairly easily as if it is an everyday occurrence. If Persephone was made to choose between Hades and her human family then it would have added a bit of tension and uncertainty for the characters but he was just there not really doing anything or serving a purpose. The conservatory that was made such a big deal of in the first book is all but forgotten about. We don’t even get to Persephone regain all of her powers and see what she is actually capable of. I would have liked to have seen more angst, more drama, more doubt and feeling between these characters. There’s too much focus on the action sequences and not enough on character development for me. Even the big reveal at the end that we’d been working towards for so long left me feeling a big flat which I think is because it isn’t actually the end. Just like this trilogy was linked to the previous series with Zeus punishing Hades for the realm he created in ‘The Immortality Trials’ , this series is clearly linked to future series and as such although we know who was behind everything, they didn’t get their comeuppance in the end and weren’t held accountable so it didn’t really feel like a true resolution. It felt like the authors head was already into the next set of books about Ares before adequately finishing this one which is disappointing. Overall it was fine and I’m glad I read it but I think it had more potential than was ultimately delivered.
I am about to use one review for 3 different books I have read, so be prepared when you see my review over and over again.
I read one Hades and Persephone type book and I decided I just might have found a new trope to sink my teeth into. The gods are laughing at me right now.
A bunch of nothingness and the little that happened was so boring that I might have preferred a bunch of nothingness. The plot was dry, everything that happened could have been achieved with a quicker solution, instead we had to sit through pseudo action scene. Wasn't worth it.
You know some books just draws you in for any type of reason? Plot? World building? Characters? Humour?
This one drew me in for the Greek mythology and the creative world building. Very entertaining take on Hades and Persephone. Greek mythology has always fascinated me, so I jump at any chance to read something on that topic.
I found the plot quite catchy, (who doesn’t love competing for love-stories?) but the characters were too juvenile for my taste. The dialogue just seemed so young, and none of the Gods felt truly powerful and strong to me. And the sex didn’t spark any “Wauw Hades is banging hot” - feelings.
I do believe Raine got some crazy good ideas and her writing isn’t unpleasant at all. I just prefer a more “adult” feel to the characters. But that’s my preference❤️
Read: 18/09/2020 1st rating: 3 stars Genre/tropes: Greek mythology/fated mates/fantasy/demons/Olympus Cover: 3 stars POV’s: Dual -1st person (Hades & Persephone) Will I recommend: Yes, but for the world building, not for the characters.
Now my journey with these characters comes to an end (at least for now), I finished ‘The Promise of Hades’ and finally learned why Persephone’s memories and powers were taken from her.
This book just flew by, it may be because I picked up the ebook instead of listening to the audiobook. I learned that I can read much faster than I can comprehend while listening (and doing other stuff).
What I liked most about this book was Persephone and Minthe and how their relationship developed and what it stood for. That even if two female characters compete, they still can have respect for each other.
I liked the writing more in this book, it felt a little more grown-up than the last two books, also this book was way more smuttier, which I enjoyed reading.
The Promise of Hades definitely flew by for me. Heck, this whole trilogy did. There's just something about Persephone and Hades that just consumes me. I honestly loved these two from the very beginning and the trials definitely brought them closer to one another as well.
I'll admit that I didn't really like the other competitor, Minthe, for most of this book. She was just really bitchy for all the wrong reasons. So I was actually surprised with what happened in this book. Her and Persephone sort of saved each other when the other needed it the most. Talk about girl freaking power.
I'm also really happy that Persephone won even though Zeus was a huge asshole for the entire series. Was I surprised that he's now playing hide and go seek with the rest of the gods? No, not one freaking bit. He seemed like he was going to throw a little tantrum because he didn't get what he wanted.. which was to be an even bigger asshole.
Now I'm excited for the next series with these gods because I seriously can't wait for them to go to war because of Zeus's dumb ass decisions. I want his ass to become human or some shit. I'm tired of him and just want the rest of the gods to be happy.
In the end, I'm slightly freaking out because I devoured all three books and I'm sure I will end up devouring the others just as easily. Woohoo!
This series was so much fun! We've been following the trials and now it all culminates in a big race for the winner. I enjoy books with competitions and the pacing of this is so quick that I can't believe the books are over!
I was a bit disappointed with the beginning because it sort of negated everything that happened at the end of book two. Why have a big hurdle for a cliffhanger only to immediately fix it with no issues? Other than that, this was a fun read and I was very happy to see Hades and Persephone get together.
There are some loose threads still and I know there's a spinoff series about Ares, so I'll be getting to that soon. This was a great retelling of the classic Greek mythology story.
I really enjoyed the The Promise of Hades. There where several beautiful quotes and I love the play on opposites such as light and dark, life and death etc. I wish it had been longer, but I will just have to wait for the next series in this world due 10/31/20 called The Warrior God [The Ares Trials #1].
Wow what a brilliant series!! I think it's a bit like marmite, you'll either love it or hate it? I've never had that much interest in mythology but when they make the all powerful Hades a smouldering hot guy, add in a bit of slow burn, soul mate magic and a few life or death situations then I'm all for it! 😁 all 3 books were ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for me, action packed from.start to finish and the story world building is amazing!! Love all the characters and I'm so glad I have these books sat on my shelf 👌🏼❤
This review covers all the 3 books in this completed series which I binge read, one after the other.
Let me start off by saying that out of all the Greek mythology stories, the one about Hades and Persephone is my favorite. That’s the main reason why I picked up book 1 of this series. But what hooked me into continuing on and giving this trilogy 4 stars were the following reasons:
▸ I liked that this was not just a retelling but more of a evolution or twist in their love story.
▸ I liked that it was a second chance, slow burn.
▸ I liked that she competes in trials/quests. I love stories that have contest/survival of the fittest games scenes. It’s very Survivor/Amazing Race/Hunger Games, which is catnip to me. So I found the action scenes very entertaining.
▸ Book 1 is all her POV BUT in books 2 and 3, we get Hades’ POV and I loved hearing his voice.
▸ I liked the world building.
▸ I liked the secondary or supporting cast of characters (Hectate, Skop, Buddy).
▸ The plot twists surprised me.
▸ Laslty, this version of Hades and Persephone didn’t disappoint me. I thought they had amazing chemistry and that both totally delivered on the feels.
I’m so glad that this is a completed trilogy. Because books 1 and 2 end on a cliffy. And I would’ve hated waiting to find out what happened next. I’m very glad I could binge read!
The book was exceptionally disappointing from beginning to end with a few exceptions. The big cliff-hanger from the last book was sorted in the first chapter and the big separation lasted about an hour? The somehow her brother was brought into Olympus but just to be there and do nothing and the big reveal was basic, I had expected something very dramatic and effed up but it turned out that the goddess of spring just had a few management issues with her feeling and instead of staying there to sort out the mess she'd done wanted to disappear and forget. It seemed very childish from a main character who grew so much through the series as an inexperience human to behave so immaturely as an immortal goddess.
3,5 Stelle . Malefica81 - per RFS . Bentornate Fenici!
Y a sorprenderme.
Well, this was a whirlwind of a book. The conclusion to Hades&Persephone's story was highly satisfying. Lots of action, banter, character development, and some delightful steamy scenes. The stakes were really high for Persephone, but she rose up to all the challenges the Gods put her through, and in the end, she came out victorious. She was a total badass but also didn't hesitate to ask for help when needed. Her relationship with Hades developed organically, and their love grew stronger than ever. I also like how Hades was presented with flaws, and not just an almighty god. His vulnerability made him more precious in my eyes. Overall, it was a very entertaining series, and i'm curious to read the other God's stories.
This... this was an epic tale! I loved the finale, I loved the twists and I love love love how f*cking awesome is Persephone. The one star is missing because of the writing BUT it could totally have my 5th star. Persephone really is made for the Queen of Hell in every life. I love how compassionate and powerful she became by living in the mortal world. Hades has my heart, that in love, broken man. Hecate, my love, I knew you wouldn't fail me. Overall, this was an epic journey that I am happy I kept reading cause the story is captivating!
THE TWIST!! Omg ok so I thought I knew what was going to happen…. I was so freaken wrong and I’ve never been happier to not be right!! I loved this series although I felt the plot twist was a little rushed and there could have been more enemy moments I adored both characters as a couple! I would have loved a little more action from the side characters but holy shit crap such a good series!
i got bored lolz the spice wasn't spicing and the characters weren't giving me angst and making my toes curl as I'd wished :(( but its fine the ride wasn't that bad I'd rather read this at 3 AM while high and eating ice cream but what can I say.
out all the things that I could predict, Pompeii was not in my top 100 guesses lol wtf is happening and then the disney ending like what in the world is happening.
The end of this series has arrived. I was pretty excited for this final piece due to my expectations created from the other two. And it was okay. I give it three stars. Well written and all of that. Personally thought, I would like more adventure and suspense. The end was sweet and happy, but I am more into dramatic situations. The "unexpected" twist wasn't that great. I think the mystery kinda escaped this book. First and second one were undoubtedly delicious. This one didn't have the same taste. Anyway, because again wasn't bad... I give it three stars. . . . . . . This was an arc given to me freely in order to review fellow readers.🤔
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
5+ STARS!
What a way to go out! This is one of my favorite new books this year. I just loved every min of it. I'm just trying to wrap my head around all that went down. I only finished it a couple of hours ago so it's still totally fresh in my brain but...you know when you finish a series and you just want to let it simmer in your head a little...You play the whole books in your mind reliving all those moments? That's what's happening now lol.. This is the third and final installment in The Hades Trials and in my eyes it’s my personal favourite story. The promise of Hades By Eliza Raine and Rose Wilson a five-star read that will bring the special light to your life.
"a light this bright can't be kept in the dark"
Hades and Persephone just have a powerful story to tell
"Light and dark as one"
I fucking love Hades and his love for Persephone.I definitely have a new book boyfriend . He would give everything to make her happy, even his own happiness and mental sanity. And Persephone, i loved how she became more strong and confident in herself and her powers, how she hold her own with Zeus and how much she loved Hades. And Zeus.... he is a huge prick, i hated him so much, his ego is over-inflated to the point of mania and i fucking hated how he treated Hades.
I love a good Hades and Persephone's story and these books just make my year, their bond so strong even after all these years, their love so special, so deep that will touch your heart. I loved them together, and I'm not ready to let's them go I need more of their loveeeeee
Great great books i can't wait for The Goddness of Ghosts hopeful we will see more of Persephone and Hades
I was really looking forward to this book only to be really disappointed by it. The plot progressed just fine. The Trials were cool and it was nice to see Persephone making progress towards winning them. The reveals at the end were also slightly surprising and I was really expecting them which was nice. But then, there was no conclusion? We figured out who was behind it all but there were no consequences for that person which makes no sense to me. If someone was the big villain of a series and were orchestrating essentially all the stuff that occurred, how can the book just end with that person just fleeing? Like how does that make any sense? I want to see justice occur! I want that person to pay for what they've done. The ending of this book annoyed me so much. Why would the authors do that to me? So rude.
Solid ending. I can conclude that there isn't a whole lot of depth to these books, BUT they are entertaining. Brain cotton candy, if you will. If that sounds like your cup of tea, then these books would be great to add to the ol' TBR.
