I have known about the Gulf Breeze UFO sightings practically my entire life. In 1990, some evidence surfaced that suggested that Ed Walters' photos were hoaxed. I really had not heard anything new about the case since the early 90s. Then, this last Thanksgiving weekend, I found a copy of this book, which I didn't know existed.
I want to believe. To me, these sightings and accounts are as iconic as any other to be found and told in UFOlogy lore. I do believe that UFOs were seen in Gulf Breeze Florida in the late 80s and early 90s. I'm just not sure that the authors' accounts and photos are real. For 25 years, something about those photos has bothered me. Something has just not sat quite right.
Now I am no more convinced of Mr. Walters' credibility, than when I first started reading this book. If the purpose of the book was to convince me that the author has been truthful, it failed. Furthermore, the end of the position statement by Mr. Andruws, of MUFON, is weakened by bizarre assumption and speculation. Putting everything aside, it was, at the very least, a fun read and entertaining.

Unlike the previous "alien" book I read, Strieber's Communion, this one asks the reader to get on board with a ton of assertions, nearly ALL of which are just backed with a "trust me" and nothing else. Walters paints himself as a kind of misunderstood hero standing up to those goddamn alien invaders and taking Polaroid after Polaroid as a kind of "proof." His bland diary/reporting style get boring after about 150 pages, and the biggest revelation to me in this book was a possible cameo by my old realtor.
Strieber's book at least gave you options (if you believe he's not simply lying): if you don't accept alien life, you don't have to, he could be crazy, suffering from PTSD, or lots of other things. Walters throws so much at the reader it's either hoax or nothing, and it's a hoax. When I got bored, a quick web search revealed some of the particulars, and I recommend that rather than this ponderously dull book.

That was my first ufo book ever. I thought it was sort of "too good to be true case", but it was a flap, other people had also seen the same types of UFOs. I was surprised to the fact that UFOs were posing for photos and then abducted him. I thought this was a complete absurd, then I discover that this is not that uncommon specially on flaps. This case has been studied by many researchers and they believe it is 100% legit, some people tried to discredit Ed but it was in such a manner that is seems to be orchestrated.

A seemingly straightforward account of a UFO flap in Florida known as the Gulf Breeze sightings. I would probably be a UFO scoffer had I not seen highly unusual (and usually disturbing) aerial phenomena on several occasions. I have no clue what UFOs are, but I am open-minded on the subject, even though UFO literature is strewn with garbage such as Chariots of the Gods, by Erich von Daniken.

This one was so interesting that I vacationed in the Florida panhandle and spent several nights watching the skies for anything unusual...unfortunately (or maybe it was fortunate) I didn't see anything...well, anything I remember!

Two stars for having a wonderful imagination being a great hoaxer.
