I'm Disney trash, so, yes, I will be reading a bunch of Disney picture books. Why? Because I can. :))

I feel like, as a kid I had this really strong love for The Sorcerer's Apprentice, but looking back now I can't really understand exactly why this was the case. I don't have any strong memories of loving the movie Fantasia. In fact, I can only recall one time in my life that I actually read it vs the countless times I watched other films. I didn't actually own this book as a kid, so I'd never read the story. And yet, for some reason, my adult mind has some immense emotion ...more

While the sorcerer is away, Mickey attempts to use magic to do his chores.
This is the picture book adaption of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" segment from the Walt Disney film "Fantasia." It was a childhood favorite of mine and still holds up to an adult rereading.
As the apprentice to a great sorcerer Mickey Mouse finds himself doing grunt work rather than practicing magic. As the old story goes, when the cat's away, the mice will play, and when the sorcerer steps out, Mickey seizes the opportunity ...more

Just prior to reading this with my grandson, we watched the clip from Fantasia of the same name. Then we read the book and watched the clip from the live action movie. So we got a triple dose of the story. My grandson liked it and used his magic wand to cast spells on our mop to make it clean and pour water into a big box. Good times.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a book teaches children about the value of hard work and how taking the easy way out can cause unforeseen problems. This book uses one of the most famous characters in children’s media to convey this message, Mickey Mouse. Because the character is very familiar to most children, students would be more likely to grab this book and start reading. This book reminded me of the book Strega Nona. That book has the same story line as The Sorcerer’s Apprentice but instead of

My love of reading started when i was young, and it gives me immense pleasure to provide books to Spread the Word Nevada, an organization that passes them on to children in the community. They are a terrific organization supporting an important cause. If your local I encourage you to check them out. For those living further a field, look in your own community, their may already be a similar program in place. And if not, you can always help start one.

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is the novelization of the Sorcerer's Apprentice segment of Disney's Fantasia. I would not use this book necessarily for a read aloud. While it does impart the value of hard work and consequences for shortcuts, I think there is better literature to use in the classroom. I would have this book in my classroom library, however as it is a fun story and Mickey Mouse is a very recognizable character.

My parents are divorced, and as a child we’d spend a lot of time at my grandparents. They were and are big readers, who encouraged us to do the same. This was one of the many books they had for us as kids, and I won’t tell you it’s a favorite, but its memorable after nearly 20 years. Worth reading to your kids!

Great illustrations and a fun adaptation of the standout segment from Fantasia.

This has always been my favorite segment of the *Fantasia* film, so I really enjoyed this book as well.

I always loved but was at the same time quite terrified by this cartoon :D I'd totally forgotten I owned it in book form!
