Mistress of Mayhem #1

The Audacity of Demons

Rate this book
I am The Circle of the Veil's newest recruit, and it isn't by choice.

Secret supernatural society, The Circle of the Veil, is recruiting rogue supernaturals to protect our kind. The job: make life hell for The FPA, a shady government organization known for hunting witches, vampires and werewolves to use in mad science experiments.

A vampire with volatile blood magic, I made a reckless mistake that got me busted by Nova, the mesmerizing incubus demon who makes me an offer I can't refuse. Because the alternative is death.

Now I'm forced to fight alongside other badass beasties, including the playful werewolf Rayne, the mysterious werewolf Corr, and Ghost, an elusive and lethal vampire, the one night stand I never thought I'd see again.

It's a misfit team of deadly recruits. If it wasn't for the hot but infuriating as hell Nova acting as my superior, I might even grow to like this gig.

If it doesn't get me killed first.

Urban fantasy featuring ass kicking action, magic, and romance with four sexy supernatural men.

I am the author of the Alexa O’Brien Huntress and the Rebel Heart series. I write urban fantasy that is dark and gritty with a twist of romance and horror but which is ultimately about people in dark places discovering who they are and what they’re made of.

I’ve been writing since the age of 9 when I had a Christmas themed short story published in the local town paper. A lover of rock music, vampires and muscle cars, I’m a dreamer who always secretly wanted to be a rockstar.

I love to hear from readers so don’t hesitate to drop me a line.

✅ Reverse-harem
✅ Action
✅ Pace
🆗 Characters
🆗 World-building
🆗 Plot

This book is a very quick read, with a good mix of action, funny moments, and hot scenes. It is entertaining, and promising enough for me to pick up the second book. It's not an amazing book, but if you are looking for a quick and entertaining read with some smut, this one is a decent start for a RH series.

I was a little wary after the quick and wobbly start where Nova meets Blaze and just throws her into this mansion where she is to be trained to be part of a secret task force. I was afraid that this book was going to be yet another poorly executed RH with insta-lust, insta-love, and insta-"I can't live without you now because you are my only reason to exist". I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.

The world-building is very minimal, and it's a little hard to care about the evil FPA guys when we don't see much of them, but the whole "ragtag team" vibe saved it for me. I enjoyed reading about the other characters, but I hope to learn more about them in the next book because even though they were a part of the story, it felt like some of them are only there as an accessory to add more interactions and more characters in the story, but do not serve a real purpose.

Blaze is a nice character, she can be feisty and have a tough girl persona, but her personality is not over the top. What surprised me is the distinctiveness of each guy's interactions with Blaze. It was not OTT, not too cheesy or boring, and we know just enough of their backstories to keep us interested. I do hope to learn more about the characters in the next book, but for a first book in a RH series, I am quite satisfied, and I am curious to see how things will develop between Blaze and her sexy supes.

The storyline, world-building, and character development are a bit shallow. Overall this book would need a little more details and backstories for us to be more involved in the story. It would also help us understand the clash between the evil FPA trying to kill the supes, and the secret organization trying to infiltrate and destroy them.

It's more often than not that a book sounds promising from the blurb only to lack in execution but this one was quite decent. The additional star is for getting something in this genre that creates curiosity towards the harem, imagine that!

With the wobbly start of how Nova meets Blaze, I was thinking it's going to get boring pretty quick but the ragtag team thing saved the book. There isn't much towards world building, it's hard to care about the FPA when there isn't something to see that evil organisation thing happening. Fortunately the potential towards seeing about this secret society or getting more info about these characters kept my interest.

Blaze is an easy POV to read through, nothing abrasive about her personality despite the tough girl persona. The guys to my surprise read distinguished. Each had their unique flow of interactions with Blaze. None of those connections felt OTT or boring, just potentials that I look forward to see progress. The harem as characters have hints of back stories that for once catch my attention.

There is just a bit of shallowness to certain elements that made me feel like it needed to have more info to get that sense of depth to this society or it's clash with the human organisation. I'm sticking around for the next one for sure.

Very well written book. There is enough love interest to keep you hooked! Also the plot of the book keeps you hooked. The character building is amazing tells you enough of the character to get you interested then just when you think you figured out this character they give you more and then all you think is I need to know why this character is this way. Definitely a book that keeps you hooked to keep reading till the end!

So good

I've been in a book slump so when I stumbled across this series, I have it a try. So glad I did because this book was amazing :) Strong snarky MC. Plenty of intrigue, and we'll rounded group of secondary characters. The guys are all alpha in different ways, and the plot will keep you ready for more. Now into book 2.

First Draft Vibes

I only pushed through because I thought the location was unique. There was no character development, the timeframe is unrealistic, and there’s nothing unique here. An attempt at a cliffhanger was made to try to get you to read more, but I definitely will not. This reads like a first draft - a lot more development needs to happen.

DNF at 80%. Didn't hold my interest anymore. They got attached too easily based on their back stories :s

Blaze and misfit team

I didn't like this book till the end. Am I going to finish the series? I'm not sure, about 59% in I became bored and began skipping pages, I also was a tad bit confused about blaze, she was a contradiction of herself all over this book. I won't take crap from anyone with sass for days was scared, wary, and on the verge of meltdowns. She constantly talked about not getting close or having more sexual relationships yet the next page she would? I couldn't understand blaze, she was everything under the sun and that made her a character I didn't really like, who is the real blaze? Bada**** or hot mess of emotional issue's? The team in not sure I care for either, it's like a band of bad misfits who are just winging it, which I don't get since they are supernatural predators? How can some be old and powerful killers yet be this dang sad as a team? And with all this confusing s***** our H is just horny about everything? Yeah I get it hun, but I was a little tired of hearing about how turned on she was every other second. I'm going to try the next book, fingers crossed ppl

“You’ve got a dark streak, Blaze. I saw it that night I watched you hunt. Like a lioness. Moving through the shadows like you owned them. You kill like you’ve got a score to settle with the world, and it’s fucking beautiful.”

What to expect:
- Supernatural beings
- Vampire Feeding Kink
- Lots of smut
- Reverse Harem
- Found Family

This was a fun quick read. After the first chapter, I wasn't sure if I was going to continue reading, however after finding out this is set Canada, I had to keep reading (go Canadians!).

There isn't much world building, and not much character growth, however the smut is good & the interactions between the characters are entertaining.

I enjoyed the different POV chapters, and honestly wish we got more from the men's side of the story.

I kind of loosely get "criminal minds" vibes from this one.. when the supes fight the FPA it def felt rehearsed and well executed!

Sitting at roughly 161 pages, I would recommend anyone looking for an easy & relaxing Supernatural read! 🌟🌟 (I would give it 2.5 if I could!)

The Mayhem House

When you throw a bunch of supernatural creatures into one big house what do you expect. This story kicks off with Blaze (vampire) being taken by Nova (demon) from a strip club after she kills one of her victims and leaves them for dead on a couch in one of the private rooms. She is attracted to him from first sight since he is an incubus. She is told to come with him and forced to live in this house with all these other supes werewolves, witches, and vampires or be killed. Everyone has killed victims to get stuck in the Mayhem House and now they have to work together as a team to take down this organization that is against supes and wants to eliminate them. Blaze tries not to form attachments to the other members in the house since its Nova's golden rule but its hard as she slowly gets to know them. Blaze fights the attraction of three different men and also the craziness of her past by trying to learn how to control her powers.

I liked this and feel like the series has potential, but i don't see myself rereading this one, hence the 3 stars.

What I liked:
- i liked that each character was unique with a complicated back story
- I liked the missions they were assigned
- I liked the sass of the main character, even through her insecurities.
- I like that the characters aren't all powerful to and there is still room for improvement

What I didn't love:
- I'm not a huge fan of the Incubus character type. I guess I don't enjoy the fact that they can control people with lust. Not sure, just doesn't appeal to me.
- I'm also not a big fan of the secret overlord trope. You know we'll probably at some point find out that the circle veil bad and the characters will war against them. (Just a little predictable). ... Lol! I'll laugh if I'm wrong.

I need more!!!

Alexa does it again! New amazingly sexy, strong, confident characters that keep you wanting more. You can't stop until you're done. So much action, sexy and stent love scenes, and good plot throughout. I have a love\hate relationship with Nova and I was excited to get to know him on a different level. You can never go wrong with Alexa. The only bad thing is that I read the book within 48hrs and I'm left with months to go for the next book. But it's worth the wait, for sure!!!!

OK, so I have to say I'm starting to dislike how authors lately have been writing such strong butt kicking heroines in the beginning of the book that turn into whimper fools as the book proceeds. Unfortunately, it looks as if this book series might just follow that line of writing. Idk I liked the thought, but it didn't hit the bar it was trying to set. I'm continuing on to the next book, but I have a feeling it's not going to be making my top 10 favorite series...

The Audacity of Demons

This new series is in the same world as the Alexa O'Brien Huntress series. Blaze is a vampiress recruited by Nova, who is a demon and works for The Circle, and recruits paranormal beings who have killed humans which threatens their secrecy. They are now a team consisting of vampires, werewolves and witches. Their objective is to thwart the FPA from kidnapping, lab testing or even killing paranormals. I really like this new series.

Awesome

I love the Alexa O'Brien series and I jumped into this one knowing that it would be a great read. The author did not disappoint. Blaze is a likable character with lots of sass. I fell in love with the characters. Each adding to the story their own something special. I'll be reading every book in this series!

As awesome as always!

This new series is off to a great start. I really like how everything is taking place in the same area as the Alexa Series and Spike's world. Characters well developed, action is solid and well spaced and leaves the right amount of curiosity to know what's gonna happen next and how relationships will develop

2.5 🌟

It almost ended up in the DNF pile but I'm glad I pushed through. The first few chapters are dull and the writing is not the best but once Blaze gets to the "academy" (glad the series' name got changed, the new one's a better fit) it actually picks up quite quickly. It's far from a masterpiece but it's short, fast-paced, a little funny, sexy, and enjoyable.

I’m sorry but this book sorta sucked. It’s writing isn’t great, the characters lack any dimension. Main character has I’m not like other girls energy, and she also comes across so annoying. All the men in this are terribly horny, no emotional connections feel natural. I won’t be reading anymore of this series.

While the writing style was good and the character was also not dumb (sorry but the last couple of books have been saaaad), the plot seems not up to the mark.

The conclusion of book one was just that she wants to stay with the unit. That's it. No drive towards the next book. Might as well be the end!

Good read

“Meow” Blaze is one feisty woman! She has 4 men potentially sniffing at her and 1 of them she’s bumped hips with several types but who can blame her Rayne seems hot as hell.. hehehe

I couldn't put this book down!

I loved this story about a sassy rogue vampire who is enlisted (forced) into a group who free supernaturals who are caught by the human authorities. Blair also possesses blood magic if she bleeds. This makes her Nova's favourite weapon. Hot read.

I really enjoyed this book! The character backgrounds were intriguing enough to keep me wanting to know more. The story scene was also very descriptive but not too overpowering in the story. The series is a short and quick read.
