Arcav Alien Invasion #2

The Arcav Commander's Human

Rate this book

A lifetime of duty to his people…

…Or the woman who could be his?

Jaret has been completely dedicated to the Arcav race for centuries. His only focus is the continuation of his species.

Known for being cold and remote, no one is more surprised than Jaret when he insists on leading the mission to rescue the humans kidnapped for slavery.

The mission is well below his pay grade, and humans are one step up from savages. But every bone in his body compels him to make the Grivath pay.

He has promised to get the humans back to their planet. The problem? One small, terrified female who may just be his mate.

When Amanda wakes up on an alien space ship, she has only one goal: Get back to Earth.

Her sister could be dying while these giant grey beasts talk about selling her and the other human women as slaves.

Fortunately, a menacing Arcav commander promises that she’ll be reunited with her sister. He’s terrifying, with his dark scowl, cold voice, and killing rages. But she can see glimpses of the kind male underneath his gruff exterior.

As Commander of the Arcav forces, Jaret must return to Arcavia. He has two choices. Will he take Amanda back to Arcavia and lose her budding trust? Or return her to Earth and lose everything?

Oh no, no, no, no.

The Good: I have enjoyed the Arcav overarching storyline, and I want to see what happens. It's become a alien space soap opera for me, and the teasers for future couples has me all in. The trope for this is uptight, repressed hero+sunshine heroine=smutnip heaven for me. Usually. There are moments where there's some good potential. And then....

The Bad: There's OW stank all up in this joint. The only reason I am giving this more than one star is there is a reason beyond Jaret's sheer dumbassery. For OW being part of the story, Ms. Hart did give it a good try to get me to accept it. I think would might have made a teeny, tiny difference would have been to get more of Jaret's history earlier in the story, to keep my mind open to him. When the dark moment happened, I just felt the undeniable urge to tell that seven foot alien to bend down so I could kick him in the ass.

The Bottom Line: OW mess is a hard line for me, and while this had some legit reasons, it's still a no from me. But I still like this series enough that I'm diving into the next one.

I absolutely detested Jaret. He had absolutely no empathy or sympathy for the kidnapped and abused women. When he left Amanda chained in a cage along with the body of her would-be rapist he killed, he didn't care about, traumatizing her. He didn't even acknowledge her!

Then, he demanded she kiss him in return for taking her to Earth so that she can see her dying sister? W t f! Then, right afterwards, he kisses Brexa - a woman he screws for intel on his enemies! He pursues Amanda knowing that he does not plan to leave Brexa. He expects Amanda to just live on his planet while he continues to f*** Brexa so he can keep his sanity thru the mating bond. He takes her dying sister back to his planet just so that he can make sure Amanda will stay. Not just an a-hole, but a major f*cking a*hole!!!

I wish Amanda would have had more intelligence and a backbone. Who tries to steal a spaceship when they now have no idea how to fly it? She let Jaret use her and walk all over her. I know her abusive father, mother's blind obedience, and her beloved sisters constant illness impaired her judgment, but I could not respect her. She let Jaret do what he wanted whenever he wanted. He would constantly use her body and then just walk out on her. She forgave him over and over. After he told her about Brexa and no intention of ending it, she screws him?!? He then walks out on her again!

When Amanda sees Jaret's uncle belittling him, she stands up for him. Immediately thereafter, Jaret meets up with Brexa and denies that he has a mate and he has no intention to stop sleeping with her. Amanda walks in on him about to kiss Brexa and then finally decides that she's had enough. Dumbass! Took long enough..

Jaret did not grovel or suffer NEARLY enough for forgiveness. When he finally does show up, she automatically forgives and screws him. If I was not already invested in the main plot line and other characters, I would quit the series.

Update: the next book is much better. Stick with it. The heroine is smart, courageous, and confident - unlike Amanda. Hero is a sweetheart and lovable - completely opposite of douchebag Jaret.

A SOLID 2.5 STARS!

I WILL HONESTLY SAY THAT I'M NOT A BIG FAN OF THIS SERIES BUT I STILL CAN'T RESIST THE CALL OF AN ALIEN ROMANCE.

HERO was just silly. I don't know. I can understand his need to avenge his mother but his way of doing it by being with another female just blows the cake. Anyway, when he found his mate, he refuses to induce the mating bond YET he still wants her. What a dick. And might I point out that he's already with someone else? Enough said.

HEROINE was strong. I loved that she kicked him to the curb and loved herself more when she made the decision not to be with him. Of course I'm just skipping way to the end by telling you this and YES there was a HEA, I'm just annoyed with how the story played out.

OVERALL there wasn't much to this story, the plot was shallow and the romance was equally shallow if I have to compare it with stories that rank 5 freaking stars. It wasn't BAD, it was just a little anti-climactic. Seriously. And the characters didn't have much character in this. At one point I just thought HARLOW & our heroine IS THE SAME GIRL. Maybe the author puts too much of herself into the heroines that every one of them just turns out to be her.

Amanda awoke on a cold steel floor with a piercing buzzing sound in her head. Other women were on the floor as well, and she saw they were in a cage. She stood up, despite the others urging her to get down. That’s when a huge gray Grivath with lots of teeth told her to sit. She swung at him and he shot her with something that paralyzed her body as she fell to the floor. She had to get back to Earth – her sister, Bree, was dying!

The Arcav Commander Jaret insists on taking a mission to rescue the humans grabbed by the Grivath. He has no idea why he insisted. Getting a report, he was told 30 women have been sold already in Gule. They knew several would be held to be sold in Durin, an evil place one would never want to be. Amanda knows she has to get out of this cage, maybe to somewhere she can escape. So she angers the guard who had stunned her the first time. He smacks her across the room. But she gets up and insults him again until she is dragged off to a tiny cage and chained inside. Before he can hit her again, another Grivath tells him not to break the merchandise. She never picked a lock and has no hairpins anyway. Suddenly a siren sounds and the room turns red with flickering lights. Grivath are running everywhere as explosions rock the ship! When the cruel one who hates her falls on his face, her laughter enraged him and he opened her cage.

Jaret’s men found 22 women and prepared to transport them to their ship. They were rounding up the Grivath for execution. Jaret was restless, still feeling something was left undone. When he hears screams, he finds Amanda being attacked by a Grivath. With no hesitation, he kills the monster. Amanda looks into Jaret’s cold, dead eyes and sees a broken man just like her father. Then he turns and leaves her there, chained, for his men to rescue.

Amanda tries to tell Jaret she needs to get back to Earth, but he doesn’t care. His orders are to return to Arcavia. So she plots with another woman, Veronica, to steal a pod and get back to Earth on her own. When an emergency draws everyone away from the hangar area, the two figure now is the best time to leave. They reason that a pod won’t be enough to reach Earth, so they find a larger ship and figure how to lower the steps. When the computer offers to turn on autopilot, they figure they are on their way! But instead Jaret is standing there looking up at them and has overridden all the controls. In defiance, Amanda sits on the floor to make him come up and drag her out.

Eventually Jaret has a test to see if what he suspects is true – he and Amanda are mates. They get closer to each other, but he holds back. His life is dedicated to revenge against the Grivath who killed his parents. He refuses to complete the mating bond. Vengeance takes precedence over everything. Despite her wanting to be his, he has already warned her he would give up everything to accomplish his goal – even potential happiness with his mate. Will he truly refuse her? Will he put her life in danger to get what he seeks?

I really enjoyed this book, despite the painful moments interspersed with the good ones. Emotions run the full gamut and the characters matter to the reader. The story line is good and moves at a good pace to hold the reader’s attention. Amanda is a strong, focused woman. But she catches glimpses of the man behind the dead eyes. Will she be able to bring him back into a fulfilling life, or has vengeance made him an icy shell forever?

I am so mad right now... I was about halfway through this book struggling with the cheating asshole who kissed another woman not once but twice because she could help him find him mothers killer as if that wasn't a slap in the face to the woman his is supposed to love!!!!!!!!! F**k no. I just can't believe anyone thinks this is okay. NO just F**king no. Then to have him get drunk and have that same woman come into his room and suck him off. I don't care if he thought it was his mate and he was mad about it. It doesn't matter....NOPE wasted my time with this whole series. First book was filled with a female lead who whined constantly about how she had to leave her life while treating the hero who was pretty decent if a little arrogant. He was convinced his plight was more important than hers, but it was bearable at least and did end up with a satisfy if idiotic conclusion. Then I thought this book would be good. I rarely leave reviews of this nature, but I am so mad at the dude in book and the author who wrote it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell readers that there is cheating because no matter how you talk about how wrong it felt IT'S STILL CHEATING!!!!!!!!!!! LEAVE A WARNING so people know going in and don't read it if they find this type of thing annoying. Cheating isn't okay even if you are looking for your mother's killer. MAYBE if they'd never had sex I wouldn't have been so mad. I shrugged off the first kiss because they weren't really together. I might have gotten over the second one if he'd learned from it but no he was all like SHE LEFT ME. Ummm yeah cause you are a cheating a**hole. I would have left him and never looked back. I would have found a way to sever the mating bond and moved on with my life because cheaters will cheat again. EVEN if it feels wrong. I am done with this series and it's sad because I loved her other series. DNF this book was dead on arrival.

The pain of loving and losing was intense!
by sewsummore
Amanda was abducted from Earth and destined for the slave markets when The spaceship was overtaken and the human women released. Jaret was in command and when he first saw Amanda he knew that she could be a distraction in his life he could not afford. Regardless he did all he could to help her save her sister's life. The attraction he felt was for his mate and despite her resistance at first she came to love him desperately as only a true mate can. Jaret was a man who had lost both his parents in the fight against their enemies. Their death turned a young boy into a man who would give up everything the find the General responsible for their deaths, even his own mate. This was a story that was heartbreaking to read, Amanda was tortured by her mates indifference, the pain of loving and losing was intensely described that my heart cried for her loss.

This sci-fi romance was well written. I liked the heroine quite a bit. However, for me, the hero was a problem. He treated the heroine really poorly for almost the whole book, so I didn’t believe in their HEA at the end of the novel. If he had apologized and started properly courting the heroine at 40% of the novel, I probably would have been able to get over his treatment of the heroine easier. I was surprised, because I loved the duology that kicked off this series and I still highly recommend those books. I think it was just triggering for me because of my history of verbal abuse.

This is such an awesome sci-fi romance book that hooked me form the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. The character and story building were amazing! I loved Jaret and Amanda together. Amanda is abducted form earth and destined for the slave market. Jaret is a commander of the Arcav forces and goes to save the humans. When Jaret sees Amanda he knows she is his mate and although she is resistant as a true mate she comes to love him. It's a great story with plenty of drama, suspense, heartbreak, loving, losing, and a true mate romance. It's a must read for any fan and I cant wait to read more!

Talk about meeting your mate in the most unpleasant way. Most stories have the male love interest portrayed as someone everyone else would kill to be with. But what if that is not true? How would the story be like? Well, Hope writes a compelling story.

The way the ending played added the 4th star for me. I like the idea of psychology helping people change for the better and get past their personal problems. It is the first time I encounter this in an alien romance novel and I think it's great. Maybe it will inspire more people to seek counsel.

Another hot alien calls for his mate

This book is another tale that reminds us that the road to true love never did run smoothly. A feisty human female and an angry, damages but sexy alien. Umm, heck yeah!
Intrigue, humor, kissing and hit sexy times. Definitely worth reading!

It was okay...

This book was not as good as the first two. I'm kind of disappointed. The relationship between Jaret and Amanda just didn't seem like it had any depth. There was definitely a disconnect. Still a good book, just not as good as the others in the series.

Ugh

I had high hopes for this book because I LOVED the first in the series. I was so disappointed. There was so much OW stuff. It ruined the book. There was actual cheating, which is a hard limit for me. I'm hesitant to read others in the series.

I found this one to be interesting due to Jaret. In the last book he was a cold SOB, so I wasn't sure how I could get behind him as the love interest in this book. It really took me a while before I wanted him to get over himself and his past, to take a chance for something real with Amanda. That he was with her enough for the bands to show, but not complete the mating made me very angry! Amanda really only had the one choice left, as hard as it was. I was glad that she had support for the choice she made. I also loved that those that were left around Jaret made it hard for him to got Amanda, that they made him jump through tons of hoops to make sure that it was indeed, Amanda he wanted. It made me happy for how this one ended.

The books in this series are not insta-love, even through there is a fated mate aspect. But something else I'm noticing in these that I love and respect is the attention to mental health. It was present in the first book and it is dealt with again in this book. There is an acknowledgement that therapy is a process, not a quick fix, and that even if the characters show progress it doesn't mean the journey is over. That characters are acknowledging there is still work to do. It felt like a fairly genuine portrayal of the process (especially considering the time frame of the narrative).

Loved the book! Broken people falling in love are always the most fun. Just a little to fast paced for me. Obviously Amanda and Jaret would fall in love, but there could've been a but more build up. I'm very excited for Book 3!

I’m feeling a little robbed. It was well written and nice change from my usual reads BUT I expected more angst and it just wasn’t there. With the plot I expected so much more and it was kind of lack luster *sigh*

I really enjoyed reading this splendid Sci-fi alien romance. It has a well-paced, intriguing plot with interesting characters, although I was not too impressed with the way Jaret treated Amanda throughout the story-line, in the name of revenge but he does finally redeem himself. There is some good support from the secondary characters.
There is: a abducted woman (Amanda) that is rescued, her sister (Bree), a commander of the Arcav forces (Jaret), friendship, family issues, , various kinds of aliens, humans, twists & turns, intrigue, some suspense, adventure, action, threats danger, enemies, deceit, betrayal, traitors, spies, mates, mating bands, vengeful feelings, attractions, desperation, determination, compromises, memories, confusion, heartache, frustration, humiliation, decisions, defiance, manipulations, therapy, apologies, happiness, love, some steam & a satisfying conclusion.

Less explosive then anticipated

So I just started the series and I'm starting to an annoying trend. These human woman are all so tough, feminist and all about human rights and they fight hard against 'mating'. They end up giving in then broken hearted but yet so quick to just be like yea I forgive you after the "hero" comes to his senses, with no groveling at all and bam the story's over. The endings always feel super rushed. I enjoy the beginnings, character buildup and all. I enjoy the series but that last bit is annoying. Make the woman strong and stay strong against anyone who hurts her, including the one that suppose to love her for all eternity. I definitely liked Harlow and Varian's story more. I needed Amanda to be more feisty especially when she had to deal with Jeret who's all ice cold. I'll continue the series..for now.

This was a very enjoyable third book in this series about Amanda and Commander Jaret. Amanda is one of the women who were abducted by the Grivath. Commander Jaret volunteers to rescue the human women, and during the rescue meets Amanda. I loved the action, the drama and the romance as we have one obstinate alien who lives to kill Grivath and is seeking vengeance and one independent spunky human who just wants to go home to her sick sister. Their adventures in this story was very enjoyable to read and review. This ends with a HEA, and the characters from the previous books appear also in this story. I volunteer to read and review this ARC via booksprout.

This one falls so far behind the others, there's so many inconsistencies it's not even funny.

Timeline is completely wack.

How in the world does a woman get away with sexually blackmailing a commander? Screw being the kings cousin, that kinda shit is treason. The information she has is national security. She either fucking tells what she knows or go to jail. Nothing less makes sense.

How are humans such fucking pushovers in this universe? It's clear the Arcav needs them more than the humans need them (other than for protection which in general they should give as they were the ones to jeopardize humans safety in the first place.) But no, it takes a human cop to become Queen for any positive changes to happen. Oh lord.

Either way, I liked Amanda. Jerik is a jerk.

I wasn't really bad, but it wasn't good either. I didn't like the writing style, it was really fast paced and the heroine was either crying or angry. The hero was really unlikable and rude. The connection between them didn't exist! Their back stories explained their actions (kinda) but still it wasn't enough for me to justify everything! Oh and the plot pretty much was their relationship so it wasn't really interesting since after a point it was just repetition of the same scenes and feelings.

If you are interested in a short, stress free, emotionally charged (for the characters) read then probably this book may work for you. But I believe there are better ones that this one. It wasn't something special.

Jaret is the Arcav King Varian's right hand man and Commander of all the armies. No one was more surprised than Varian and his new bride that Jaret decided to take on the rescue mission of the kidnapped human females instead of delegating to another soldier. A good thing too because he finds his fated mate Amanda. He frowns and grimaces and tells himself he has no time for her because of his commitment to destroy the Grivath. But he is always lured back because, after all, Amanda is his mate. And you cannot escape your fate! A wonderful story that I really enjoyed! Very nice!

I enjoyed this story immensely!

I liked that the story actually had some meat to sink my teeth into. The story was not endless sex from chapter to chapter. I also enjoyed the return of characters I had previously read in an earlier book coming back to glimpse their continued story as well as characters in the periphery of the plot being characters I cared for because they has enough depth to pull me into their stories too. The building romance was well written I highly recommend this series.

This installment in this series is like the others, a full standalone story but better enjoyed when read in order. Amanda and Jaret couldn’t be more different when you first look at them, neither wants a relationship either and certainly not with each other. Yet, they have a pull towards each other that they find difficult to ignore. There story is full of ups and downs, twists and turns as they search for their HEA.
