Jane Austen Classics retold with a Murder Mystery twist!?

I loved this first in the Jane Austen Murder Mystery series! It’s a pitch-perfect retelling with a twist of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, set in competing law firms, Longbourn & Sons vs. Pemberley Associates.
Elizabeth Bennet is the daughter of the owner of Longbourn, while Fitzwilliam Darcy is the lead lawyer for the Pemberly firm. She longs to be an attorney in the crackling good murder case where the firms represent competing sides. If you love the original as much as I do, you can guess that ...more

Thanks to the publisher for providing a voice galley of Pride and Premeditation in exchange for an honest review.
Pride and Premeditation is such a unique way of retelling Jane Austen's most famous work. I love retellings and I love audiobooks so when I saw a Pride and Prejudice retelling with a murder twist available as an audio on Netgalley, I jumped on it pretty much immediately.
In this book, you'll meet the characters we all know but here, Lizzie wants to prove to her dad that she's able to solve a murder mystery in order to be seen as the capable woman that she is. I loved that the author didn't stuck our lovely Lizzie to the limits women faced back in that time. I loved how determined she ...more

Everyone knows I am a sucker for retellings, and everyone really knows how addicted I am to P&P.
So, when I saw this book in NetGalley, I immediately requested a copy.
“Do you purposefully misunderstand everything I say, Miss Bennet?”
“Do you purposefully overlook all inconvenient truths, Mr. Darcy?”
Fetch me my smelling salts immediately!

Alright Tirzah I will give you 5 out of 5 birds for Pride and Premeditation. I received this as an advanced voice galley copy from Netgally. Aka an audio book. I'm a sucker for Pride and Prejudice and even more for crime. This was a no brainer for me. I needed it in my life. Tirzah nailed Jane's writing and voice even when she went off the beaten path into the realms of MURDER! WHAT?! There were a few twists and turns and felt a little like Agatha Christie when it needed it. Mrs too the characte

I can’t imagine how hard it has to be to take characters beloved by so many and craft a new tale that represents each authentically and in a new way. Yet Price did it very successfully!
I’m PRAYING there will be a new installment because Elizabeth Bennett needs to tackle more cases.
There’s a feminist edge that was much appreciated and the romance and pride/prejudice was there in all its glory.
This was a delightful historical fiction + murder mystery!
Recommended.

Tirzah is a friend of mine, so I am totally biased, but I thought this book was absolutely brilliant. She took the starting framework of Pride and Prejudice and turned everything else inside-out, giving familiar characters brand new roles in a story that manages to keep you guessing while also delighting with playful references to the original novel.

Initial Thoughts
I’m all about Pride and Prejudice retellings and also, I love a good murder mystery. Death Comes to Pemberly was one of my first forays into P&P retellings and I read that so long ago. I was so excited to find this title in NetGalley.
Some Things I Liked
Historical inaccuracies. If you read this book, please take the time to read the author’s note. That being said, I loved that Tirzah Price did not let the sexism of the time limit her storytelling. I loved that Lizzie’s father was ...more

This is a "voice galley," intended only for reviewers and read by a synthetic voice, not whoever will be the narrator. This is not the version that will be for sale.
This an alternative version of Pride and Prejudice, in which Mr. Bennet is a barrister, and the family live in the Cheapside section of London. His firm is Longbourne & Sons, but of course there are no sons, and the dreadful Mr. Collins, a cousin from Hertfordshire, has been employed as a solicitor for the firm, and named as the heir ...more

As a fan of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice and a lover of mysteries, this book was a treat to read!
Author Tirzah Price has done a great job of reinventing the setting and circumstances of the classic P&P, bringing it new life and intrigue! No longer a country setting, this story takes place in London and our famous houses of Longbourn and Pemberley are now the familial law practices that are run and employed by our traditional cast of characters!

I don’t enjoy reading Jane Austen novels, but I LOVE reading Austen retellings.
One thing I loved about Pride and Premeditation is that Price kept the names of the original characters. Most retellings change the character names and the family dynamics, but Price made the story more feminist and gave the characters new roles.

I love a great retelling and this just might be my new favorite retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I love the original story and mysteries, so this combo was an absolute hit for me.
17 year old Lizzie Bennet wants nothing to do with the typical womanly duties and would rather be a solicitor or barrister like her father. Her character is portrayed so perfectly in this retelling. I enjoyed this first book in a the new series featuring Lizzie Bennet and Darcy. I am embarrassed to admit I have not actually read Pride and Prejudice, so I can't compare the two, but I can say that I really enjoyed Lizzie's inquisitive nature and tenacity. Lizzie is "working" at her father's law firm, Longbourne and Sons, trying to do whatever she can to make her dream of becoming an attorney come true. Her father has a real soft spot for Lizzie and puts up with a lot more from her than most w

I thoroughly enjoyed reading PRIDE AND PREMEDITATION, a fast-paced, feminist retelling of the classic PRIDE & PREJUDICE... Tirzah Price's debut definitely includes more murder than Austen's original, but I'd like to think that Austen would be thrilled by the liberties Price has taken to afford Lizzie opportunities re: the law profession. As a result, Price is able to explore nuances in the original story and take them in different directions, as well as create some truly wonderful pl ...more

Oh I loved this, but that should come as no surprise to anyone. Jane Austen is an all time favorite and to have an Agatha Christie murder mystery twist added in? Please. It is just perfect for me. Price did a wonderful job with this murderous and feminist retelling of Pride and Prejudice and I absolutely cannot wait for the next two installments. Plus I can't wait to throw my money at a finished copy of this book - just look at that cover!

There is definitely potential here, but the Author made an attempt to mash-up a modern retelling and a Regency era reimagining in a way that just doesn't work and was often somewhat jarring. I like the idea of JA heroines sleuthing around enough that I think I'll stay tuned for whatever comes next in the series.

OMG YES PLS!!!

Story retellings can be interesting to read. Often times when readers finish stories they truly enjoy, they try to keep the characters alive in their mind’s eye, by reliving, extending, or even reimagining the story they just finished. Many lovers of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice have surely done this at some point. It’s also potentially why many authors have written sequels and retellings of the famed story over the years…a means to keep the characters that readers love fresh in their minds and

It is a truth universally acknowledged that any review of Tirzah Price’s reimagining of Jane Austen’s 'Pride & Prejudice' must begin with that novel’s epic first line. Indeed, Price herself begins her novel this way, changing the punchline from Austen’s irony-laced maxim about women and marriage to a non-ironic truth about the tendency of men to take credit for women’s labor. Though the wit of Austen isn’t very easily replicated, Price trades wit for a “truth” that existed in the late Georgian e
