I've read this book before, never put it away. I wanted to re-read it for distinctive vampire characters. IMO, this is one of the best of all the series (12 in all) and I won't go into why, I will not be a spoiler. Last night I was stopped dead in my tracks with Chapter 25. It blew me away! Where does L.A. Banks get your muse for these stories? I don't know any writer who can match her astounding Vampire Huntress Legends other than Octavia Butler. Not even Anne Rice. Banks offers something for e ...more

Okay, so this is the one where I just called it quits. These are nearly laughable--they are a bizarre mix of bodice ripper romances with gangsta wannabe thugs. Gimme a break.

One of the marks of a good writer is to make the ludicrous believable. Unfortunately I found it impossible to believe that vampires have a hidden society in which they are ranked in numbered levels; that they have their own system of government and have divided the world up into feeding realms; that an Australian master vampire lives in a gigantic gothic castle on the Queensland coast, overlooking the Great Barrier Reef, which has somehow gone completely unnoticed by any human; and that the most ...more

In the 4th installment, The Bitten, we open up with one of the keys (blood of Christ) missing, a master vampire has stolen it, this key opens up one of the biblical seals spoken about in Revelations. The stolen key is causing unbalance between Light and Dark, affecting Damali, who is bitten by her Lover Now Vampire Councilman Carlos Her Neteru Antibodies should keep her from turning, however due to the unbalance between light & Dark she is temporally a Vampire . she and Carlos go undercover

This is where Banks lost me. I couldn't finish the book because I just couldn't take any more. I'm sure it will appeal to others since Banks has gone on and on and on with the series; it's just not for me.

Was really excited about this series: vampires are always so white, and the premise of African-American vampires was intriguing. Unfortunately the pace was a little too sluggish for me. The extensive description of the many levels of hell put me to sleep.

The best of the series by far. If you've given up, please at least read this one before making up your mind.

I just can't get into this series. I'm giving up on it. I don't care for the writing style, the characters, or the world where they live.

Damn, I cried real tears at the end of this book. I was ugly crying, y'all!!! This book deserves a whole lot more than five stars! I'll be honest, when I saw that this series had twelve books and counting, I thought, "I'll just read to book four and call it good." No, I can't do that! I have to read this series to completion now! L.A. Banks, girl, I bow to your superior writing skills. Never before have I loved a vampire series so much! Honestly, I must have read ten books or more between book t ...more

I really thought that I'd like this book but it ends up that I didn't like it much at all. I'm guessing that vampires don't really do it for me. I mean, I kind of already knew that but I like to give them another chance every once in a while. I found this book to have too many characters for me to keep track of aside from the two main ones. I felt that there were too many storylines going on.

So much potential.

Potentially a 4 star read....just soo much detail that the real story gets hijacked. Incredibly talented writer, just needs to tighten the storyline.

Okay, the novel isn't the newest, it's actually the fourth in the series, but it's the first that I have read from the author. took me 2 days to read the first scene. I started it in the waiting room of my doctor's office and had to put it down because I started turning red.

I never questioned what the characters looked like until I got to the end and saw the picture of the author. She is black. Okay, characters named Jose Carlos, are obviously Hispanic in my head, but every vampire biter I read

Quite honestly, the premise of the story is interesting, but I won't finish reading this book. Sadly, the dialogue is deplorable - I can excuse some slang, but at some point you have to have people speaking in a "normal" manner. Even in the movies, gang members aren't always talking the way the characters in this particular series talk with each other. And I seriously have a problem of bringing slang spellings into a written format. I can understand that guys that are part of a gang will refer t ...more

Loved it! This book has been the most tightly constructed, exciting book of the series thus far. It truly saddens me that so many people comment on the use of a few slang words/phrases as the basis for abandoning the series or trashing the books because they are primarily written in standard English save a few words. I've read a lot of urban lit and the fact that Carlos (one of the main characters in this series) was a street thug before he was turned lends legitimacy to the character as he cont ...more

as much as i hate to say this i think i may be over this series. i was so excited to finally get to read the whole series but its been rather disappointing. the first three were great plotwise but the dialogue was ridiculous. i almost stopped then and didmt read this one but accidently read some spoilers that made me have to read it. i wont give it away for anyone else but ill just say with all the excitement of this plot i should have been glued to it...but i wasnt. at best i felt measured indi ...more

Recommends it for: anybody who loves vampire books.
I really enjoyed reading this book, although I did find there to be a lot less action and/or suspense than I'd expected. For the most part, the book was not what I thought it was going to be, but I did find myself getting into the book. I thought L.A. Banks did an excellent job describing the characters and what they had been going through.

At first, the author had me confused about who everybody was (did not realize this was part of a series) so it took me some time to figure it out. The book f

I feel like these books go on for too long. There are so many unnecessary scenes and dialogue between characters. It has the awful effect of pulling me out of the book and losing my interest. But I still absolutely loved everything that went down in the Aussie's mansion. The tension was delicious. After that, the book lost me. I mostly skimmed so I'm confused on what actually happened at the end.

This was an okay book. It had some sex scenes in it that made me blush, and some of the language was too much at times, but I liked that story line. I really wanted to start at the beginning of the series, but the library didn't have it. I probably would have understood a couple of things better if I had waited, but oh well!
