Author J. Franklin Payne has crafted a highly entertaining and well thought out work of drama, which reads quickly but has plenty of content from cover to cover. Many speculative elements, which were woven into a plot that is well-grounded, and therefore added to the tension and uncertainty even more. The character development of Kyle Stone is particularly interesting and is intriguing to see how the effects of his time at war gave him fortitude for the challenges that were to face him later in life. In terms of cohesion, one of the best features of the work is its dialogue, which not only gives the cutthroat atmosphere of the boardroom world but also characterizes and delivers plot exposition in a snappy, direct fashion. Thread is a fascinating read which will surely suit readers who love thriller novels with realistic protagonists.
Thread is a work of fiction in the thriller and mystery sub-genres. Written for adults due to its complex themes and tense moments, the protagonist of the piece is successful businessman Kyle Stone, whose early life is plagued by tragedy and stark experiences of war. After this, his experiences in the business world become no less cutthroat, and the story progresses to show us all those who would make life difficult for Kyle, and the clever ways in which he is able to overcome them. What results is an enigmatic thriller with plenty of surprises and suspense.
As past Producer of USO Entertainment and Master of Ceremonies, I have had a lot of life experiences working with the best Artists in the world and the best Warriors in the world. Chosen as Top Veteran by the President, humbled by the selection. Thread is a loosely written memoir of earlier years, under the umbrella of fiction.
Kyle is a Vietnam veteran, and runs a successful business in hot tub country. He's in a bad marriage, with a jealous wife who is cheating on him. One of his friends is conducting a hostile takeover of his business.
He gets involved with a secret society.
Needs a lot of editing. Too much showing, too much digression.
The book, “Thread” by the author, ‘J. Franklin Payne’ is a thriller mystery. This is a story that includes complicated scenes, tragic experiences, tense moments, dramatic scenarios and interesting plot. What did I like the most in the book? a. The characterization of Kyle Stone is mesmerizing. b. The narration of the story was impressive. c. The strong emotional bond with the reader. Overall this is a bundle of nail-biting experience for thriller-loving readers.
A thriller story with a little bit of everything. You don’t know quite what to expect as it takes you on a wild ride. Main character wants a simple normal life but it does not go quite his way as he finds himself over his head through the story.
Kyle Stone owns a financially successful business and is living a life of luxury with his wife and two daughters. Then the unexpected happens, and Kyle finds himself in the unique position of facing new challenges. His company is caught up in a hostile takeover, and his family is in jeopardy of falling apart. This leads to major changes in his life, one of which involves Kyle working for a clandestine organization called “The Family” where Kyle ends up taking on more responsibility as he demonstrates his value to the operation. Will this put him in harm’s way, and how might this affect not only himself as he makes connections with new people but also his relationship with his family?
In Thread, all of the characters are believable and memorable with a good mix of flaws and positive qualities, and readers see the growth arc that Kyle undergoes over the course of the story through past and present challenging circumstances in his life. The chapter titles provide great hints as to what readers can expect within each chapter. Also, the backstory relating to Kyle’s time in the military, some family history, explanations regarding the historical background involving the Knights Templar and Freemasons, and a supernatural element that revolves around a white candle are not only pertinent to the story but also help add interest to it. J. Franklin Payne has written a likable story, but the overall quality and consistency of the writing would not only be improved with better editing and proofreading but also make the reading of Thread more enjoyable and less distracting to an interesting storyline.
The book opens with our protagonist, Kyle, a sucessful business man at a pool party with his VP, neighbor, and Lawyer and their wives. Here we begin to see insecurities and attempted indisgretions along with jealousy. We are treated to many Threads in this storyline, least among them is corporate politics and greed as well as drama in the family situations, womanizing and betrayals. We even have a little black magic thrown in. But you are drawn into this world as with every chapter propels you to continue to the next! We are shown basically the life of Kyle going through all these events and changes and the emotions that come with them. Will he still come out on top? That is why you are drawn from chapter to chapter to see what Kyle is going to do. How single handedly he plods ahead with the building of his business empire despite the people around him who become his nemesis. Yet, there are some good people there that want to see him do well! The title is extremely appropriate for this book since as you read you can watch the threads being pulled and then woven into a complete story at the end with lots of intigue and surprises. I particularly liked the ending. I received and ARC but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
This is certainly a very entertaining, keep you on the edge of your seat, what’s gonna happen next kind of story. And to find out that it is based on the happenings of the author’s younger years just makes it all that much more crazy! Witchcraft, embezzlement, takeovers, affairs, divorce, and a wee bit of “The Family” really has you wanting more. The delivery, however, is just a little too all over the place for me. The story does not flow, it’s not fluent, and sometimes pretty difficult to follow or left me confused. Sometimes the subject would change mid paragraph making me scratch my head thinking I may have missed something.
Overall, the story is fantastic, I just wish that it flowed better or was told from beginning to end rather than in flashbacks. Worth the read if you get the chance.
Wow! This book had so many twists and turns. At the beginning, you meet Kyle and his seemingly perfect life. He has a great job and a beautiful family. At first glance, he has it all. When things in his work life, then personal life, start going south. He takes the advice of his best friend and does things he never thought he would do, including enlisting the help of a little black magic. The beginning of the story is a little confusing as the characters and their issues are revealed. However, as you get more into it, it really keeps you guessing which to me makes a good book.
Quick, dramatic thriller with a ride of human nature traveling with companions such as mystery and suspense. You can't stop reading till you find your mind at the end-Great Read
Thread is a mystery suspense thriller by J Franklin Payne. The story revolves around Kyle Stone who just wanted a happy family and a successful business. After working hard to build Stone Financial Corporation, Howard, one of the businessmen who purchased a franchise, betrayed his trust and though Kyle filed a lawsuit against him, the case was dismissed. Desperate to fight him outside the unjust rules of the law, Kyle took VP David’s crazy advice to get back at Howard through the help of a witch. From then on, Kyle’s life started to get out of control.
Review
This book is indeed a story like no other. It’s a book that can be categorized into so many genres: action, drama, mystery, suspense, thriller, fantasy, and romance. There’s a lot going on in this book that would make any reader curious of the next chapters because it’s unpredictable. Even if you’d want to try to predict what would happen, you wouldn’t be able to think of any. Or at least, it was like that for me; I honestly didn’t know what I was expecting from the start, then it ended in the most inexplicable way.
I’m giving this book 4 out of 5 stars. This book is about corporate corruption and greed at its highest, black magic, family drama, and betrayal. I’ve had a crazy reading experience with the protagonist whose backstory was based from the author’s life himself. I recommend this book to readers who want to read something out of the ordinary.
Maybe this was a good story, maybe even great - I wouldn't know because I couldn't get past the first couple of chapters. The editing was downright awful and the writing far too choppy. It was like a bunch of sentences just put together, there was no flow, it didn't read like a story. It reads like a series of statements in paragraph format. I have long since given up trying to struggle through a book just to finish it. I quit reading it and have moved on simply because the lack of editing was very apparent and the writing style not one I prefer.
Thank you to author J. Franklin Payne for this FREE Kindle copy of Thread. And thanks to Goodreads for hosting the opportunity.
The book started out OK, but went downhill after the first page. The story was OK. The writing was bad. Very robotic and unnatural conversation style, with many editing issues. Really needs a rework, then some polishing and fine tuning before being released to the public. The cover art is nice. I can NOT recommend this book in its current state.
The book takes us to various subjects, it brings to us an adventure, reading the book in itself is very thrilling, it's a mixed genre. I low key expected the story to have a happy ending. I like how the characters reach their ends. The scenes are described admirably.
While Thread is the story of Kyle Stone, J Franklin Payne also pulls from his own life experiences to weave a crime thriller book that has twists and turns and unexpected events. This standalone has all that most people looking for a thriller novel want; complicated relationships, tragedy, suspense, drama and a plot that is always thickening.
Kyle owns a very successful investment business and lives an expensive life with his wife and two daughters. Immediately, it is revealed that Kyle’s marriage is in trouble and money doesn’t mean happiness. The first few chapters the readers learn about Kyle and get into his head. Events of the story force Kyle into a new life, one he never imagined for himself or his family. One of these events means Kyle has become unwillingly involved in “The Family”. Kyle must play his cards right to ensure that himself, his family and any of her new personal relationships do not come into harm’s way as he navigates what it means to be part of “The Family”.
I found that this novel could do with some editing. The delivery is a little too all over the place for me to fully enjoy the read. The pacing and flow of events needs works. Some parts to the novel have major events happening in one chapter but then not have anything that progresses the story for a number of chapters afterwards. It’s sometimes difficult to read and left me confused. Sometimes the POV would change mid paragraph without any indication and it caused some disjunction in the storyline. While I think this book has a good storyline and plot, I just think it could do with a little more tidying. It would however make an excellent movie as is. Just the details, like adding the date to chapters would make for a wonderful improvement for the readers understanding. Overall, get concept & plot, and for those who enjoy thrillers and crime family novel would love it; but I believe it should go through some more refining.

Book: Thread Author: J. Franklin Payne Genre: Thriller . . It's okay to have enemies, as long as you didn't make enemies intentionally but rather by just being yourself. If you've enemies around it means you'll have done something unfamiliar with the other person. Having enemies are good somewhat, because of them only we are what we are right now. We'll this book is a package of suspense mysteries and thrilled pickups. It depicts the life of protagonist named Kyle Stone - very well known successful businessman. The plot portrays the circumstances, situations faced by him throughout his life. The book goes with a great pace of narration and captivates the reader's attention towards the story. I really liked the way it describes about the characters Kyle Stone's friends and families. The story is about tortured faced by the protagonist, describes about all enemies he had and the revenge taken. The book revolves around Kyle stone. The story has a very thrilling experience which is wrapped around the person professional life of Kylie. The book starts with introduction to Kyle’s life and a very simple introduction. The plot goes forward with problem that arises in the professional life and his career. He is faced with court case and goes forward to planning a revenge. When do things don’t go according to his plans the book takes a different turn. You will see a prominent other character which is David but other than him there are numerous characters which are very challenging but well developed. The book even follows to add underworld and gang culture in it. This new addition get Kyle addicted to a different kind of lifestyle and shows the luxury side of the underworld. The plot was of a complex nature but it was not as impressive as it as it could’ve been. The narration was good and smooth. The cover however could have been much better, the book was an average read for me. at times I just disconnected with the whole plot and the characters. overall 3/5 🌟
"Thread" was a unique read that I came across recently. The story begins with the Introduction of Various Characters related to Kyle & then it takes the readers deep into Kyle's life and to the world related to him i.e Corporate, office, his empire, colleges, etc. There are quite more characters but the Author has managed to bring clarity. The title in intriguing. The Book cover could have been better. Since the book is Non-fiction, it has personal touch & it is written out of experience.
The beginning is done strongly which keeps the readers hooked till the end. I finished it in two sittings. Just like in everyone's life, Author has faced the ups and downs, there were situations which tested & taught him at the same time. One more interesting fact about this book is the narration is too way detailed that readers can visualize the scenario's. As I finished certain part of the story, I found it too deep. Ending left me think over for sometime, to digest what I read. Overall it was truly worth reading
Thread is something that cannot be separated ,if it is not dealt carefully. So,the title is apt. The author didn't fail to connect with the readers through words. In the end, you will not be able to separate your mind from the book. . The story revolves around Kyle, the protagonist who is a business man. The plot of the story is so gripping that it will keep you hooked till the very end. The author has remarkably described the characters. The plot of the story accelerates with the events that cloud in his life. This book focusses on how Kyle gets over the incidents in his life to pave a complete, different way. The author has beautifully knitted the words---beautiful enough to let the readers visualise for a while. So many characters confused me,as I am a beginner. . I loved the character of Kyle. The curve with witch factor was commendable. Bury yourself into the book to read a different kind of book.

Other things.. Grammer, language used, presenting things are all good and reader friendly. Do read once.
Thread is a power-packed book full of thrill, mystery, suspence and also a pinch of supernatural power which makes it a great read. The book has lots of characters and plots which are portrayed with utmost perfection by the author. Author has used the perfect combination of words to create an image of all the characters and plots in the minds of the readers. The book is not a simple read as it has many different circumstances and plots interwoven with each other and full of twists, surprises and tension at some places. The twist with witch factor and curse of candle was the greatest. The book is well written and explained It a great book for a balanced read which serves all the tastes from thrill to mystery to drama.
Not every book do have enough calibre to keep you engaged and entertained all through . This book is surely one of them which won't let you keep the book aside until and unless you finish it right off . The author compliled in probably everything that a mystery seeking reader would carve for . All the characters are given enough visualization and apt depth into their story . The mystry is well crafted in every alternate corner of this book and keeping pace with it is the smooth and tactile way of unveiling them one by one . Also the author never forgot to showcase the emotional reactions of the characters to the situations, which only adds to feel connected to the book . I do reccomend readingit. I am gojng with 4 and a half starts.
I was excited to get a chance to read Thread pre-publication, and really enjoyed it. The main character, Kyle, is complex and interesting. He is the "thread" that ties the whole book together. However, there are also plenty of other threads running through the story, and it was so much fun to watch Kyle maneuvering to keep everything in his life on track. His character is very well-developed, and I enjoyed learning his backstory and seeing how it made him who he is in the present day and contributed to his ability to stay strong through everything that happens. There are plenty of other interesting characters as well, and the interplay among them is very well done. There's even a hint of magic to make things even more exiting!
String is a force pressed book brimming with thrill, secret, suspence and furthermore a spot of heavenly force which makes it an extraordinary read. The book has bunches of characters and plots which are depicted with most extreme flawlessness by the writer. Writer has utilized the ideal blend of words to make a picture of the considerable number of characters and plots in the brains of the perusers. The book is certainly not a basic perused as it has various conditions and plots entwined with one another and brimming with turns, shocks and pressure at certain spots. The curve with witch factor and revile of flame was the best. The book is elegantly composed and clarified
What a reader wants when he/she starts studying a new novel if someone asks me this I will say the book should have suspense, thrill, twists and turns and this book has this all. This book has the perfect combination of all these things, which make it a perfect read for all. There are many characters in the book and the characterization done by the author is amazing. One of the important character of the novel is Kyle who faced some mishap in life, and now the question arises will be able to overcome the crisis?? If yes then how?? If no then what next? The story is damn fascinating and keeps you hitched till the end.
. The story starts on an interesting note when Connie informs Kyle about the suspicious activities taking place in his office where his best friend David is involved. But Kyle was already going through so much mess, first the black magic then the wife trouble and business issues. Things get worse when his life was in danger. How he got into such trouble and how will he get though this is What this story is all about. For me it was a disappointing read, first the introduction of too many characters at the beginning and then the poor narration. Story is full of twists especially the black magic part from where Kyle's life got worse. Give it a read to know how kyle deal with all this problems.
It's the action packed life story of Kyle Stone. In the beginning I felt so hard to remember those characters and who is who's wife and all. But as the story progressed it made everything clear.
It's a highly mysterious story packed with enormous twists and turns. One of Kyle's colleagues filed a case for breaking some law so Kyle and his friend David were planning ways out of their trouble.
The story is slight slow paced at first but picks up pace after a few pages. The story is all about the enemies typical high-class entrepreneurs have and their vengeance story. It will keep ablaze it's readers till the conclusion
It starts with a good pace and everything that happens in the beginning of the book, slowly unravels in the end.
The protagonist, Kyle Stone, has many layers, many dilemmas and problems. Initially, we only get to know him on a surface level but as the story progresses, we see him completely vulnerable; be it the love for his children or the sad memories of his father.
There is a good dose of thrill and mystery to keep the readers on their toes. Each chapter ends with a cliffhanger which makes you want to read further.
All in all, it is a good book with a good plot and several memorable characters.
