New Jersey 1958: Seventeen-year-old Cecilia is pregnant, disowned and abandoned by her family, She believes nothing worse could ever happen to her. But she is wrong. This is just the beginning... This is just the beginning…
Wow what a riveting story. I honestly can say I want to read the next book, but afraid of what I might find too at the same time. The plot was good and the characters are very strong. And I hope with all that's is going on a happy ending will happen in the next story. Cecilia is a girl from an Italian family. Her father and timid mother run the household with an iron fist and will discipline her sister and her accordingly. But what she doesn't really understand is why her father is all up in arms about her helping the new colored boy Lucian, like her teacher Sister Anne told her to do. The day she looked into Lucian's eyes for the first time, was the same day her life changed forever.
First, I want to thank Barbara Larriva for providing me with this book so I may bring your this review.
A Sister’s Betrayal is a prequel to Barbara’s first book One Day I Will Find You. Now usually I say to read books in order so you get the feel for the characters and the storyline. However, not with this book. You may read this book as a stand alone and understand it. But, Barbara’s book One Day I Will Find You is extremely powerful that their had to be a prequel. I am so glad she wrote this after the first book.
This book was a short quick read with extremely important messages that even in todays day an age holds true. Love is love no matter what skin color, gender, age, etc. So many mixed emotions in this book for myself.
The biggest pet peeve I had with this arc copy I was given is that it was not prof read. There were many and I mean many words all jumbled together without any spaces between them. It made many of the pages difficult to read.
Life for the unmarried in the 50’s. The year was 1957 and things were a bit different then and reading it now in some ways hurts the spirit. This is a quick book with a powerful message about love. In the 50’s young ladies that were not married but became with child were most likely sent away to have their child as so the family would not be subject to scandal and in the end that is what happen to Cecilia, but the tale will continue and it is not a pleasant one. As much as I enjoy reading, the arc was hard to read I hope the author took the time to correct the error before putting it on Amazon to sell. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This was a good book that I enjoyed reading. I read One Day I Will Find You before this one because I didn't know about this one. So it was great to read the entire back story to bring more depth to Cecelia's character. It brought more understanding as well. It touched a little on her back story in the other book but this one goes into great detail. I liked the relationship between the main characters. It was very sweet and surprising or the time period. It was very relatable and believable. I would recommend this book to others...though not to everyone because there are some triggers in the book. The writing was good and I am sure to read more by this author in the future.
