I encountered this book in my early 20's when I was writing a college philosophy senior honor thesis on what I would come to call "the moral circuit breaker effect" with regard to unusual and exotic abilities, miracles, siddhis, whatever you would like to call them. I was introduced to both Ken Wilber and Terence McKenna, as well as some science (including dissipative structures) that would stay with me forever. Plus, as a catalog qua catalog of "the powers," this is by far the most compact and interesting book I have ever read. The science is good, the reporting is clear, and the materials covered are so amazing that I think everyone should read this.
