The Hitman's Desire

Rate this book
When you’re almost killed, not once, but twice, finding out your father is a mafia boss doesn’t seem so bad.
What is bad, though, is the feelings I’m trying to hide toward John, my father’s personal assassin.
With his brooding, bad boy aura and intense blue eyes, I know he could command anything from me and I would obey.
His eyes, though sinister, say they want to touch me, to kiss me, to cross that line we know is forbidden.
I feel drawn to him. His presence calls to me like a beacon.
Even though my father took him in and molded him into what he is today—a merciless killer— my father will be even more merciless when it comes to his only heir. Nothing but a brutal and violent death will be waiting for John if my father ever finds out.
But I don’t know if either of us are strong enough to stay away.

(Disclaimer: this is a mature, new adult book with explicit sex scenes and violence. 18+ readers only.)

I received an ARC on exchange of honest review.

I’m first with this author and I do like the book, but, yeap there’s a but, I love sex scenes but for me was too much. I wish the connection go a little slow. I like when everything happens slow and gradually rise to a really strong relationship. Also there’s a few things that was hard to believe, one of them is the security in the house of the Capo, looks like everyone can get in so easy. And more hard is to read about someone keep on eye on you while you sleep or doing all personal things in your own room. Things like this really brings down my opinion and stars, but as always said this is just my personal opinion, I’m sure there’s more and different points of view.
The story has potential and I’m going to keep on eye on this author because I do like to keep reading her future work.

Thanks a lot for the book.

I've never met a woman who felt like my salvation, Ruby. A man like me doesn't deserve salvation.

Before I begin this review I wish to thank, T. Steele for sending me an ARC copy of her debut novel! Congratulations!

"The Hitman's Desire" was my first read in the mob genre so I was pretty excited to dive into this story. The title alone was attention grabbing and I needed to read this!

In all fairness, this was quite a mixed bag of hits and misses for me.

The first chapter was very strong. The story sucks you right in and Steele does a great job giving us a backdrop that had me sitting on the edge of my seat. The characters were interesting and with a writing style that dripped with suspense, it really set me up for an intense ride I couldn't wait to continue!

However, what started off like a story that could take me into the dark abyss of the mafia underworld where power, money and life and death are tightly knit, unfortunately fell short for me.

The character that intrigued me most was John Russo, hitman for the infamous crime boss, Malcom Moretti.

John is a hardened, emotionally unavailable and often times brutally honest man. I loved the raw facet of his character because he understood his place in the life he’s lived. No sugar coating things for this guy.

“What, you thought I’d want to see you? As if you’re mine? As if I go to my 9 to 5 job wondering what my sweet little wife will be cooking for dinner when I get home? That’s not what this is, Ruby. You need to stay the fuck away from me. I killed four men tonight and I loved every second of it. I love letting that side of myself out. It’s like letting out a chained beast. The beast needs violence. Its claws are sharp and jagged, and anyone it touches will be ruined.”

But, John’s definitely a closed book too and that was a huge issue for me in his story because we never really get to know John. His character is kept fairly superficial which hurts his development.

We’re told he has baggage from his childhood but we never get into John’s head to feel the depth of his anguish or pain and the conflict he obviously struggles with. Sure, we’re often reminded of this and told throughout the story by a deprecating John himself. But when opportunity presents itself to open him up and there are a few flashes of this, the door slams shut all too quickly; we don’t get the chance to dive into his psyche which for me would’ve given me a reason to empathize and care. Hence, it was very difficult for me to truly get invested in him.

I didn’t hate John’s character but I didn’t like him as a person either.

Ruby DeFrank is the daughter of Mob boss, Malcom Moretti and the growing object of John’s admiration and infatuation. Unbeknownst that her father is a mafioso she’s suddenly hurled into a world she knows nothing about but must now accept as her new reality.

Ruby’s character had such potential to be a strong female. For starters, I was thrilled that she knew cars and wanted to use her hands and aptitude as a mechanic instead of relying on her looks. I was hoping that her skills as a mechanic would’ve opened her story arc and used to develop and highlight her savvy, intelligence and independence. And I’m not sure where the cool girl we meet at the start goes but her whiny, bratty attitude and erratic emotions got tiring.

The chemistry between John and Ruby started off with plenty of heat. The issue for me was that there really wasn’t much of a foundation for this relationship that didn’t end up with sex.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I love me a heated, sexy scene as much as any fan of erotica but when sex is used as a coping tool it’s not sexy to me.

Steele can write hot sex and yes, her scenes are smoking hot but on the same token must balance the richer, deeper intimacies of bonding that goes beyond sex.

As for plot, the story felt a bit disjointed. I’ve watched plenty of mafia movies and I just didn’t get some of the inconsistencies with what we know mafia culture to be.

I am comfortable with the rating I’ve given being this is a first novel by a new author and the potential for Steele to improve and to clean up those inconsistencies. I feel that with a better editor these would be remedied for any future works.

This book is a great read if you're looking for a steamy romance. The characters are amazing, especially John! He's the perfect balance of flawed and heroic and T. Steele does an excellent job of bringing him to life on the page. Ruby is a great heroine as well, she's smart and capable and low key hilarious. Can't wait for the next one!

This was a pretty good read that I liked from an author that I have never read before. Ruby leads a normal life working two jobs and keeping to herself. But that all changes the night her father’s enemies come for her a father she has never met. A father who is Capo in the Italian mafia. When she moved into his house she is assigned a bodyguard John who is also a hitman for them. John knows that Ruby’s father will kill anyone who touches her he can’t deny his feelings for her. This was a good read they had some hot sexy scenes in it. This was a good read with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

This book takes bad boy to a new level. Not every woman would open her heart to a mafia assassin, but Ruby does. Ruby lives a typical life supporting herself, until one day her entire world changes. Suddenly her "dead" father isn't dead anymore AND her entire life changes. She has to say goodbye to everything she's ever known, including her best friend.

Luckily Ruby has her own personal protector, Jack. Ruby's father has ordered Jack to watch over Ruby, even as she sleeps. It's not easy to watch forbidden fruit walk around tempting him, especially since she's the first woman to make him feel. Ruby's lost in this new life and Jack makes her feel safe. She revels in his safety and he wants to give her everything, including pleasure.

This story is about finding family, embracing the mafia lifestyle, surviving, and forbidden love. Once you start reading you won't want to put this book down. Be prepared for lots of steamy love because Ruby and Jack take full advantage of every opportunity they have!!!

My first book by T.Seele and I'm a total groupie now.

This book is basically one of my fantasies. Sweet innocent witty Heroine, Rought tough oh so bad, but oh so delicious, completely off-limits hero.....maybe anti-hero fits better.

I think I'm 100% desensitized because of the dirty and the evil of the Mafia didn't even phase me. It just made the story all the better.

This book had drama, steamy steamy oh so amazing scenes, and two characters who should never work, but completely do.

Give this book a chance!

What can I say about this amazing book other than HOLY CRAP!

John 😍😍😍

Dude, you're swoon-worthy!

I've had the pleasure of working along side T. Steele, and I've loved seeing this story come to life. While this isn't your typical mafia romance, it's has the perfect amount of angst, suspense and romance!

I honestly adored John. Malcolm, Ruby's father, also has a little place in my heart. He's a misunderstood sweetheart!

I loved every second of this little gem and I can't wait for more!

Steam Against a Suspenseful Backdrop

Author T. Steele certainly knows how to bring the hot and steamy in this mafia romance (her solo penned debut) that is packed full of engaging side characters who round out Ruby and John nicely. A very enjoyable storyline that is not only fast paced and with deep emotional torment of past and present but also one that builds to a climactic eventful ending that holds no punches. Well done on your solo debut. Highly recommended!

A steamy novel, I received this lovely as a very excited ARC and it did not disappoint. The main character is believable especially since it is startling discovering your father is a mafia boss which results in multiple murder attempts. Of course she'd be assigned a bodyguard. John is exactly the badass mafia assassin you'd expect.

Okay everyone, first I would like to say that I think this is the first mafia romance book I have read ever! Sooo, with that being said, here is what I thought about it.

Well the first chapter had me running and my heart pounding fast. I was holding my breath and saying don't be that girl you see in movies. I mean, I knew it was going to happen and still I was panicking. This book is one heck of an emotional roller coaster ride. You have the sweet and innocent Ruby who finds out some pretty crazy information about herself and family. Well know nothing is the same for her after that night. Here comes, the broody, angsty and good looking good/bad guy. He is inserted in her life to help keep her safe. You can tell from the beginning that Ruby has an affect on him. But the journey they both go through is insane. So the question now is; Will she be able to accept her life now. What is John's deal? Will John fall in love with Ruby? So many questions, however they do get answers.

I loved the characters and their personalities! I love love the dark and broody John and how he was affecting Ruby. The book does not start slow and the same would go with the very hot, steamy parts. Omg I am still blushing because I can't get these two out of my head!!

This was the first Mafia Romance I've ever read, and I'm not going to lie - I was skeptical at first (just as I was when I read my first Bully Romance), but much to my delight, T. Steele did not disappoint.

Enter calm, cool, collected, 25 year old hitman, John Russo, with his ice blue eyes, curly black hair and stone cold demeanor.  His entire person screams danger, and he has the stealth of a damn ninja.  Nothing shakes him, and he walks around silently with a stoic expression, giving absolutely nothing away.  Until he meets Ruby, the bosses 19 year old daughter.

"I've never met a woman who felt like my salvation, Ruby.  A man like me doesn't deserve salvation.  Or anything good really, but you feel that way for me.  Fuck knows I'm not strong enough to fight that."  - John

The immediate chemistry that Ruby and John share shook me to my very core.  They balance each other in such a beautiful way that it's impossible not to root for them.  John hurt my heart on more than one occasion (the quote above one of several) while Ruby made me beam with an odd sense of pride at her strength and courage.  With a perfect balance of action, romance, and comic relief, this book is truly a journey like no other I've ever experienced before.

I have to admit that this is the first mafia romance book that I read and it will definitely wont be the last .
This book is the perfect convo of dark and sexy and I enjoy every second of it .

This story pull me right in and kept me hooked all night. Yes it kept me up the whole night (that’s how good it’s was for me. )

This book had the right amount of action , love , passion , trust and Omq the sex scenes where so good and steamy that I get goosebumps.
One of the things that I loved more about this story is how much John worship Ruby , he made her feel like she was a goddess, he empower her so much that I just love it . Plus I picture him as Baywatch Zac Efron and oh my that made the story even better for me .

This book takes the bad boy to a whole new level and everyone should read it .

I will admit right off the bat that I’m not a huge reader of mafia romance. Nothing against it, just don’t have a lot of experience. So going into this book, I wasn’t sure what to expect- but the author knocked. It. Out. Of. The. PARK.

This story pulled me right in and kept me hooked for the whole wild ride. The plot was fresh and interesting. I really felt like I could relate to Ruby, the main character, as she is thrown into the unfamiliar world of the mob. I love how she went after what she wanted and didn’t take anybody’s bullshit.

My absolute favorite part of this book is the emotional growth that the main love interest, John, undergoes. Seeing it through Ruby’s eyes as he goes from a closed off, emotionally unavailable assassin to a loving, protective partner who is just the right amount of alpha/possessive. And his chemistry with Ruby is 🔥🔥🔥 some VERY steamy scenes!!!

The Verdict: A perfect, steamy read for mafia romance lovers and mafia romance virgins alike! Check it out when it releases on 1/9!

Disclaimer: I did developmental editing and proofreading on this book, and received an ARC. I was not in any way compensated for this review, nor was I even asked to write one. I only wrote it because I’m a huge fan of the book!

Excellent mafia romance!

Ruby gets the shock of her life when one night she finds herself almost murdered and then finds out the father she thought was dead is very much alive and a mob boss. Now she must adjust to living in his home, under his protection because too many people want to hurt her to get to her father. John is her father's hitman and he has been assigned to keep watch over Ruby while she is asleep in her room. Ruby can't understand why she is drawn to the dark, brooding hitman, but she definitely feels the pull and sexual tension when she's near him. John doesn't want to let Ruby know that he desires her more than his next breath, she is the boss's daughter, totally off-limits. Plus John doesn't feel worthy of Ruby at all. This is a very hot read and it's the first book I've read by this author, I definitely want more and I highly recommend it!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

“You can’t be gentle with me.”
My face falls, “Wh—why not?” I stammer.
“Because, Ruby, I’m like a dog. If you’re nice to me, I’ll come back, begging for more.”

Another amazing book I’ve read written by Ms. Steele.

The Hitman’s Desire is a stand-alone, slow burn, new adult mafia romance that is intense, sensual, angsty, and suspenseful with a little bit of humour thrown in.

I loved the dynamic between the two main characters ! My only wish is that this was not a stand-alone novel and there was more of John and Ruby’s story to come.

Wow. Just wow. So freaking hot. The attraction between John and Ruby is so steamy I couldn't put the book down.

Ruby is a little naive yet strong. And John is the the cold, ruthless killer who falls head over heels for the forbidden fruit that is his boss's daughter. It's the perfect set up for disaster yet I couldn't help but root for them. And my god, the love scenes had me begging for more.

Would definitely recommend reading this book!

Read as an ARC , a brilliant read. Great strong characters and storyline . It captured you in a way you felt you were in the book with them living their lives with Lots of strong emotions , the hard mafia rules , their pasts presents and futures and the heartaches to go with it all . It's a rollercoaster of emotion but boy you cant put it down once you start it . It's fantastic. I love mafia books and this one is definatly a must read.

Received arc copy for honest review. I really enjoyed this book. Ruby whos mother has died doesn’t really have any family except her best friend. While closing the coffee shop she works at, two customers start a series of events that change her life forever. While thrust into this new world that she’s learning to navigate and morning her old life. She falls into a relationship with a forbidden mob enforcer. This is a slow burn relationship with some of the steamiest sex I’ve ever read. I was taken from the very beginning. I never lost interest or became bored. If you enjoy this book as much as me you’ll be happy to know that this is turning into a series. Jump on a platform and purchase your copy. Formal release is the first week of January!

I was generously given an arc in exchange for an honest review!

h: Ruby (POV)
H: John

First, I’d like to start by saying the cover is 😍
This book starts off quickly and we see Ruby closing up shop by herself at a coffee shop. Two mysterious men are still ‘dining’ at the shop but neither seem to be eating. When Ruby locks up for the night and walks to her car, not one, but two men try to attack her. One of the mysterious patrons of the coffee shop saves her and immediately after, Ruby meets her father for the first time. Ruby’s dad is a mob boss and when she decides to move into the mob family home, he has her watched around the clock by the man who saved her in the parking lot, John. Spending a lot of time together, things get intense between these two, and the forbidden aura between mob boss’ daughter and mob boss’ assassin makes things even more heated.

There is a slight age gap between these two, which I didn’t mind at all. I loved that Ruby aspired to be a mechanic! It’s refreshing when a heroine has a hobby/ can do a job that is predominantly male. Ruby also has a bit of sass to her that keeps things interesting. I thought the plot was original, not something that is overdone. I enjoyed the writing style and the steamy scenes 😍😍 I personally thought the conflict with Ruby’s dad could’ve wrapped up shortly after John climbed through Ruby’s window but the small added bit of drama at the end didn’t hurt the story. It was unpredictable and still smoothly wrapped the story up.

Favorite quotes:
”When you open that smart, yet innocent mouth, I want to do despicable things to you, claim you in every way. Make you scream my name until you lose your voice. Until tears stream down your face.” -John

”Because, Ruby, I’m like a dog. If you’re nice to me, I’ll come back, begging for more.” -John

”I’ve never met a woman who felt like my salvation, Ruby.” -John

Love this. Like this might be my new “comfort” book kind of love. You know the book you go back to when you’re anxious or just are in a reading slump so you just reread a favorite? This book is definitely that for me. Granted I love mafia romances but if anything that kinda just proves how good this is. John is officially in my top three book loves. I desperately want more John and Ruby!! If you love a good mafia book or a good romance or maybe both? Read this! It’s amazing.

The Hitman’s Desire is a mafia/forbidden romance book with an alpha male hitman and some seriously steamy scenes.

Ruby leads a normal, boring, and lonely life, working two jobs and keeping mostly to herself. But that changes the night her father’s enemies come for her... the father she had never met and knew nothing about... the father who was the Capo Dei Capi of the Italian-American Mobsters. Making her a mafia princess.

When she moves into her father’s home, John is assigned as her bodyguard. He’s cold and lethal but she sees something in him. She can’t help but be drawn to him. And though he knows that Ruby’s father will kill anyone who touches her, he can’t deny his feelings for her. Just one taste is all it takes for him to get addicted to her.
_____________________

I loved this book and the angst that it brought. Ruby continues to be put in difficult situations that end up showing how strong she really is. While she may not believe it, she’s a fighter and has more strength inside of her than she realizes.

John has always been a cold blooded killer who doesn’t care about anyone except for the boss. You can see him struggle With his emotions while he tries to keep his distance from Ruby but ultimately you get to see the softer side that he only has for her. But she doesn’t make him weak, if anything she makes him more lethal. And heaven help anyone who dares to threaten what belongs to him.

If you love a good mafia romance with a seriously hot alpha male then this is the book for you!
