Pendragon : The Guide To The Territories of Halla: The Never War (Pendragon, #3), D.J. MacHale
Pendragon: Journal of an Adventure through Time and Space, commonly known as Pendragon, is a series of ten young-adult science fiction and fantasy novels by American author D. J. MacHale, published from 2002 to 2009. The series chronicles the adventures of Bobby Pendragon, an American teenager who discovers that he must travel through time and space to prevent the destruction of the ten "territories": c

What would you sacrifice for the greater good?

Bobby and Spader travel to the territory known as First Earth to defeat Saint Dane in his latest scheme.

AMAZING

What to know/ expect:
- a fast-paced adventure
- danger
- good characters and friend dynamics <3
- these books do have a repeating pattern (but there's comfort in repetition :P )
- early 1900 US history, specifically 1937 (one of my favorite points in history)
- Saint Dane is such a good vill

I think what I love most about this series is the different worlds. Every book, there's a completely new setting to lose yourself in, complete with a new cast of characters. But of course, sometimes the best ones from previous novels come along for the ride.

Bobby Pendragon now finds himself in a very familiar territory indeed; First Earth, his home planet in the 1930's. And he quickly discovers that the "tipping point" here has everything to do with time. Somewhere, someone, helped along by none

Wow …..after reading this book ….........I was like “mindblown baby” I love love love how the author had cooperate a famous real life event to his fictional adventure story!!! I actually stopped reading the book to watched a documentary on that faithful event, on youtube. Because, I just have to know more! Learn plenty too :)

You got to admit this book is quite different in a way but at the same time its still the same :P
I'm really glad the author had decided to change the storytelling concept a

There are many types of themes and issues that are happening in “pendragon” right now. Here they are: Friendship issues, War vs. peace, Good vs. evil, and a bunch more. The main one for me though is Friendship issues. The main character, Bobby, and his friend, Spader, are having friendship issues.

Spader is mad at an evil guy named St. Dane for killing his father. Spader goes wild with anger when he hears about or sees St. Dane. This doesn’t help Bobby stop St. Dane from destroying Halla (Everyt

When I was younger this was the book in the Pendragon series that kind of lost me. Anything with time travel as a theme tends to lose me before long because it's rarely done well. Time travel is one of those concepts that you can't mull over too deeply without it falling apart in most cases, because you'll start to see and pick apart the paradoxes and issues with it. As such, I never finished this book when I was younger, and intentionally kissed this series goodbye for a while.

This was never a favorite of mine, especially back when I originally read it simply because things like the mafia and gang wars combined with history don't usually interest me. But I feel like I enjoyed it a little bit more this time around and can appreciate how vital it is to the series as a whole.

I love Gunny, who is introduced in this book, and I like that this story keeps you guessing of who exactly Saint Dane is taking the form of to cause the tipping of the territory of F

This is a unique Pendragon book: It takes place on Earth. Even more unique: In the 1930's. I don't want to spoil anything, but Machale did an amazing job with this book, piecing it together and making it sound realistic. I really enjoyed it.

Definitely going to continue flying through these books, this one was so fascinating. Seeing a possible singular event end up creating a domino effect was interesting for sure.

I love all the stuff that the author comes up with, he's got an incredible imagination and I love how each one is revealing more and more stuff and also creating more and more questions.

I cannot wait to get back to my boyfriend's house so I can get the next book, I'm so stoked.

This is probably my favourite book in this series. It deals a lot with how choices can influence the future, and how a single choice can have very far reaching consequences, even if that choice seems to be right at the time.

Great twist ending. I kind of feel bad for Spader but he did deserve it. I definitely think he's coming back though. Can't wait for the next one.

Ok, I'll shut up about the Doctor Who mash up thing, but this one kinda reminded me a little of Bioshock infinity.

I think this had to be the most interesting book in the series partly because it took place in 1937 which according to the author is considered "First Earth". There are also a "Second Earth" which takes place in present day Earth, and also a "Third Earth" which takes place in 5010, the future of Earth. I really liked this book because it was in the times of World War II and I've always thought that particular point in history is way interesting! The year was 1937. Through the flume, Bobby Pendra ...more

Story: The story was very well-paced and pulled the reader in pretty well. There were many little twists throughout that led to the big twist, and it was a very interesting take on a historical event and possible catastrophe. The story was definitely creative. It was hard to believe a few points, but everything flowed together nicely otherwise and really tied together in the end. I also liked the touch of

Adult reread of Pendragon, part 3!!

Right, okay, so this reread hasn't been going well. But I actually thought this book had the strongest plot so far. Maybe it was because it takes place on First Earth and has immediate consequences for Second Earth (aka "our world"). I really liked the glimpse of Third Earth, and was actually surprised because I had forgotten that Third Earth had underground cities. That was a concept I included in my own writing, and until now I thought I'd made it up. I guess

This plot was handled better than some of the other books, but the author's political views, such as environmentalism and "family planning" (in this particular sense it seems fairly likely that this is synonymous with massive abortion because it results in global population reaching zero growth) as the grounds for utopia come glaring through so much that the book is awful, and even delves into loss of personal humanity while the author tries to convince you it's okay. The Never War is the third book in the Pendragon series. The story starts off shortly after the death of Pendragon's Uncle Press. Pendragon and Spader travel to Veelox, only to find that Saint Dane has gone to first Earth. When they arrive at the first Earth flume, they are shot at by two gangsters in what seems to be the 1900s. The travelers escape the gangsters with the help of the first Earth traveler, Gunny Van Dyke. The travelers soon realizes that Saint Dane's plot on first Earth has somet ...more

Bobby Pendragon is back and now has some experience under his belt from his past two adventures. Now Bobby finds himself in a place similar to his own, First Earth. Bobby and the traveler from Cloral known as Spader have traveled to New York City in 1937. Here they discover that there is a plot with a connection to New York gangsters and the Nazi party that will result in the famous hindenburg disaster being avoided. The catch however is that the Hindenburg will be carrying plans that would lead ...more

The space between books in this series don't give the reader room to breath as the next entry comes fresh off the heels of Cloral. If there's any fans of America in the early 1900's, you might wanna pick up this book. MacHale takes us to a more familiar place than his Atlantean fantasy world: New York, 1937. And the characters in this era look like they've stepped straight out of this history films.

While the drama around Bobby's cohorts on Second Earth intensify, First Earth seems just as alien

“You want to know why we're the ones responsible?" Gunny asked.

I looked up into a pair of wise eyes that had seen far more than mine.

"Because there's nobody else," he said.

Well, now we know why 'our' Earth is called Second Earth. Turns out there is also a First Earth, which seems to be quite literally the past: specifically in the 1930s. Since we've been told a number of times that a traveler (somehow) always arrives when they need to, I'm not sure why these would be separate worlds at all, but

Another great sequel to fit perfectly into the series flow. It was just as satisfying as I remember it when I read it the first time.

I think what is especially special about this one is Bobby’s growth as he becomes determined to keep up his Traveler work, as well as his interactions with Saint Dane, when the demon reveals the actual, ruthless reasons for his plotting.

My first look at the book made me feel like it would be boring because of the historical fiction angle. But it adds in SciFi and

I loved this book. I liked how Bobby is maturing. I have mixed feelings for Spader. I liked how author made the plot in 1937 of first Earth. The idea of Hindenburg incident being the turning point of first earth causing world war 2 was fantastic. I liked his imagination of future earth

Woo! This book did an amazing job of playing with the idea of time travel and how changing a fixed even in history can have catastrophic effects on the future!

If you've gotten this far into the Pendragon series, then you've probably been wondering why Bobby's Earth is called Second Earth. Well, in this book you get to find out why!

Very dramatic and suspenseful; I can't wait to see what happens next...on to book four!

“This was like no library I had ever seen because, well, there were no books. Actually, I take that back. There was one book, but it was the lobby of the building, encased in a heavy glass box like a museum exhibit. I figured this was a book that was here to remind people of the past and the way things used to be. As I walked over to it, I wondered what would be one book chosen to take this place of honor. Was it a dictionary? A Bible? Maybe the complete works of Shakespeare or some famous poet.
"Green Eggs and Ham?" Gunny said with surprise. "What kind of doctor writes about green eggs and ham?"
"Dr. Seuss," I answered with a big smile on my face. "It's my favorite book of all time."
Patrick joined us and said, "We took a vote. It was pretty much everybody's favorite. Landslide victory. I'm partial to Horton Hears A Who, but this is okay too."
The people of Third Earth still had a sense of humor.”
