It's a loose adaptation of the first 10 minutes of the movie, using design elements from the cartoon. The turtles kick some asses, rescue April, then celebrate for 13 pages. It gives new readers a good idea of what the Turtles are all about, but unfortunately neglects to give them a lot of individual characterization, something the movie scene it's adapting achieves very well.

I wasn't really familiar with TMNT at all prior to the most recent movie - this is a cute intro, pretty standard secret identity stuff.

The First Battle is a great introduction to the story of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. If you have never watched a tmnt cartoon, or have a child who has never heard of them before, this is a great way for them to develop a liking for the super hero turtles.

The scene that this book captures, reminds me a little bit of the first teenage mutant ninja turtle movie, when Raphael decided that he wanted to go out for an adventure at night on his own, and ran into a little bit of trouble. This is a very fun book.
