"Divided into three main sections, this guide is never too wordy and offers a multitude of illuminating photographs. The first section concentrates on the basic decoration of a room, using color, texture, and patterns. Next comes a review of interior decorating styles showing typical wallcoverings, windows, and furniture that define each. The last portion contains how-to information, with instructions ranging from making curtains to the proper hanging of a picture. Essential."--LJ -Starred review. 384 pages (all in color), 8 1/4 x 11 1/2.
My edition of this book was published in 1994. It seems today's design style is so much the opposite of every idea in this book. The pages are filled with pictures and the book is heavy from all pictures and suggestions. Just because the design styles are outdated, doesn't mean people won't like the ideas. The overall style is very busy and unapologetic maximalist with lots of fabrics, rugs, pillows, and wallpapers. The lighting is often soft and the colours are soft and warm. The overall effect is a kind of luxury feeling and a feeling of comfort, home, being cozy and inviting chairs to curl up in. There's no metallics of any kind nor is there any minimalist looks or even farmhouse looks. There's no emphasis on fixtures such as faucets. Appliances are not seen in the photographs. These designs would require one to have the time to dust and vacuum lots. I don't think this design style would be practical except in the bedroom where one might want to create luxury using fabrics.
