A Joyfully Jay review.

Chasing the Horizon is a young adult, fantasy adventure story that features flying airships, magic stones, and young love. It also tries to focus on a world without gender by using pronouns ve/vim/vis for all characters. For me, it was still a struggle to disengage completely from gender expectations for two reasons. The first is that the names still sounded gendered to me; the second was an editing issue that meant pronoun contractions were consistently written

Time keeps eroding at the world
But I’m glad I don’t have to travel alone

A quick and engrossing soulmate romance, I binged almost all of this in one sitting. I haven't read a soulmate story in so long that I wasn't used to how quickly they fell in love, but given the idea of soulmates it makes sense, and even Konnor and Daxton themselves were shocked by how quickly their feelings developed.

The setting of Aerroterra is vibrant and I'd like to read more stories set in this fantasy world connect

4 stars!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book but it goes live June 19!

In 1 sentence this book is a magical fantastical steampunkey gender neutral fated mate YA romance!

It was everything I didn't know I wanted to read. It is YA but managed to walk the line of adult themes such as arranged marriage and "connecting".

I found the world to be fascinating and to be honest I just wanted to know more. The story is told from alternating POVs but Konner's POV is from a sheltered point of view and

(I begged for was given a free e-ARC of “Chasing the Horizon” in exchange for an honest review.)

I came to support more LGBTQ+ representation in books, and now I’m walking away with the Horizons series as a new addition to my never-ending list of fandoms. I’m hooked!

“Chasing the Horizon” follows Konnor and Dax -- royal, teenage terrans who are next in line for their respective kingdoms. They’ve been arranged to marry each other to strengthen and unite their kingdoms, despite never meeting. Neithe
A short, well written YA romance.
'Chasing the horizon' is set in the fantasy world of 'Aeroterra', separated into kingdoms consisting of agender (Ve, Vis, Vim) folk who differ in appearance and cultural practices. There are also some associated omegaverse like themes ( a dominant sex and a child bearing sex) and the story gives off some mild steampunk vibes in places. Though it takes a while to get used to the agender pronouns, the writing flows well and one soon gets enchanted into the world o

Ve /vee/ the pronoun used by all terrans. Given the agender nature of terrans, they only use the one pronoun. The forms are ve, vim, and vis.

Konnor is held prisoner by his Regis father. He isn’t the son the ruler wanted, inferior in every way. He manages to steal away to try to make his own life, rather than face a marriage of convenience. Dax too is being forced into a marriage he doesn’t really want. He decides to try and quell a rebellion on his countries borders and goes off to be a hero. Th

I’m a sucker for a good love story, and Chasing the Horizon didn’t disappoint! I wanted to devour it in one sitting in order to see if Konnor and Dax ended up together. I won’t give away any spoilers, but there are also twists and turns that you won’t see coming.
