When I have previously read about La Palma erupting in a disaster novel, I've been shown the massive slide expected into the Atlantic and the resulting tsunami which hits the coast of North America. Astonishingly this tale of the Canaries never even looks across the ocean. Presumably the devastation is equal to that facing western Europe. Iceapelago is a book I couldn't put down, which was wonderful except when it meant I had to keep the light on until the wee hours. I gobbled it up in a few days. If you like to nod off to sleep gently after a few pages of Louisa May Alcott this is not for you. If you prefer a read that will keep you pleading with yourself for "just one more chapter" then this is the one. It read like a screenplay and this may very well end up on the big screen before too long.
