THERE WAS LITERALLY NOTHING THAT SPOKE TO ME

Historical romance novels are often hit or miss, but only rarely have I encountered such a BIG miss as this one. There was honestly nothing that appealed to me about this book. The only reason it gets two stars in stead of one is because, bad as it was, it didn't offend me.

👎 WHAT I DISLIKED 👎

Plot: It's hard to criticize something that's not there but I'll give it my best shot. I found no plot in this book whatsoever. There was no hook, nothing that set

Passion from the beginning with these two, great to read and definitely holds the attention.

I very much enjoyed this book , I found it great reading and it had good characters who had chemistry from the outset.
Romantic and sweet first meeting in the rain , where he can’t help but Kiss her immediately set the story for and intense relationship.

I would read more from this author, and look forward to more of this series.

I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review

What a delightful tale! It has been so much fun reading the MacNaughton series of stories. Getting to know this family is such a treat. Fenella and Lachlan are a dynamic pair. A must-read for historical romance lovers.

When she becomes the object of a cruel wager during her come-out in London, she vows to put off the penniless noblemen vying for her sizeable dowry. Lachlan MacNaughton has neither the temperament nor the patience to be the next MacNaughton chief, preferring to knock heads together rather than placate bickering clansmen. He readily accepts a

What a way to start a new series! Deception and Desire by Aubrey Wynne is book one in A MacNaughton Castle series and if this is how it begins, I can’t wait for book 2. I found this to be easy to read and Aubrey can really write amazing descriptions. Her characters are lovable and who does’t love a brawny Scot?!. This original story is a true gem and there were some unpredictable happenings that I just didn’t expect… oh how I like that in a book. This story has an embarrassing and horrible schem ...more

Deception And Desire is a magnificent historical romance by Aubrey Wynne. Ms. Wynne has once again provided readers with a well-written book and a spectacular cast of characters. Fenella had two strikes against her, she was tall and she was smart. After being made the victim of a wager she's determined to avoid marriage and let her sister find a husband. Her father takes her grandmother in Scotland so she can avoid her mother's harping. Lachlan's grandfather is the chief of their clan and wants ...more

Miss Fenella Franklin doesn't fit the current fashion.  She's intelligent, blonde and taller than most men.  Her father is only a baronet who made his fortune in trade.  Her mother is pushing her into society and wants her to marry a man with a title.  After being humiliated once too often she begs her father to let her go and stay in Scotland with her grandmother.

Lachlan MacNaughton is not happy as his Grandfather's second in the Clan.  He would be much happier in the family's Glasgow Mill.

A compelling start to a new series that wraps you up in it's vivid description, warmth & humour!!

A wonderfully slow burning romance that sparks at first sight and proceeds to wrap you up in its warm embrace!
Deception and Desire is a cleverly written tale. Wynne interweaves wit, sensual craving, teasing flirtation and a soothing warmth that takes the inclusion of cruel ridicule, tear inducing heartache and momentous loss to make you realise just how attached you have become to the couple and the

From the beginning, this book didn't suit me at all. Like one reader on Goodreads said, there is no plot. None. At least I haven't found it.

The book starts with Fenella in her season. Balls, gowns, gossip. She hates it all especially after one scandalous bet that left her humiliated.

When she arrived in Scotland, she decided to work. She's good with numbers so she quickly becomes a secretary at the hero's family mill. Now, this is where it gets interesting.

First, when the MCs meet it

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

Set in Glasgow during the Regency Era, Deception and Desire sees our heroes, Fenella and Lachlan meet at the MacNaughton's textile mill, and fall in love. Fenella has never fit in in London society. She's too tall, too clever, and not blue-blooded enough. Her father might have a title, granted by the Regent, no less, but to the haute society, she's an outsider. With her mother pushing her at pe

Deception and Desire by Aubrey Wynne is a terrific, if a bit different, love story featuring Fenella Franklin, who is beautiful but unique: too tall for the ton; too intelligent, by far; and in love with numbers, no man. Lachlan MacNaughton is the hair to a lairdship in Scotland; a lairdship he has no desire to inherit. They meet in Glasgow, Scotland, where Fenella has fled to stay with her grandmother for a while and get away from the marriage mart in London. Lachlan has fled his home with the ...more

Fenella Franklin hates being put on display. Everyone stares at her and talks about her. She is taller than most of the men, the women make fun of her and her fAther is a business man with no title. When a man finally pays attention to Fenella she is so flattered and excited that a man has finally taken an interest in her for who she is, until she finds out it was only a bet between the men of the ton. This is only my 2nd story by this author and I will be reading more of her work.

The character's were written with depth and you got a feel for them. Even though they are not together until about 25% into the story, I felt a connection when they do meet. There is romance which builds slowly and felt right. Anymore seems more of these type of stories either have no romance or instant. I enjoyed the slow walk to HEA for these two.

Not all is fun and games. There is sadness that was handled well alon

Fenella is an intelligent woman in a time where she is considered a bluestocking for being more knowledgeable than a man. She is tall, which is problematic when the men are shorter than her. She was deeply hurt and escapes to Scotland to be away from London society and her mother, who is pushing her to marry a man with a title. Lachlan would rather fight than compromise, but will do his duty if he is the next chief, which is what his grandfather wants. When Fenella runs into Lachlan, she is stun ...more

Fenella Franklin decides to leave London, after she finds herself part of a cruel wager during her Season. She decides to turn her back on the ton and make her way to Scotland, where her maternal grandmother lives. The very apt title ‘Deception and Desire’ rings true when Fenella pursues work as a bookkeeper at the MacNaughton textile mill. Fenella literally falls into arms of Lachlan MacNaughton on the way to her interview and finds herself sharing a kiss with him. Yet when as they spend more t ...more

I am currently obsessed with regency romances that are about not noble people. I love seeing a romance in a different setting.

This book was great. I loved Fenella. She’s considered too tall and too educated to be a good wife in England. I loved how the author showed awkward she felt (I’ve been there girl!) But she’s not ashamed of it. Her mother is pushing her into marriage with a noble, but Fenella wants nothing to do with that. She gets permission to live for a time with her grandmother in Gla

I loved this book. This is my first read by this author and I am a new fan. Fenella Franklin is just the type of woman I can relate to. She will impress you from the start with her fortitude. The MacNaughton's don't what has hit them, in one case literally, when they meet the female applying for a job. Excellent story that will bring tears to your eyes at times. She is the recipient of a horrible wager which ruins her chances of a marriage.

Lachland MacNaughton is supposed to be the next laird but doesn't think he will be good at it.
Neither him nor his brothers are good at math and it shows in their books.
Lady Fenella answers the ad for a bookkeeper and its love at first sight for Lachland.

Thanks to Dragonblade Publishing and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I adore stories about bluestockings and misfits and this new book, the first in the McNaughton Castle series does not disappoint.
