Bob Sorge is “the speaker who can’t talk”—that is, he is reduced to a whisper because of a debilitating vocal injury he suffered over 20 years ago. Through the journey, God has given him an empowering message that explores God’s purposes in fiery trials. It’s not the fire that changes you but your pursuit of God in the fire that changes you. Bob has a unique way of helping us process our journey so we stay in the race and overcome. Whether you’re reading one of his books or listening to him, you’re about to receive a message from the heart of God that will strengthen your faith and draw you into greater intimacy with Jesus.

Amazing amazing AMAZING!! If you are in a trial, whether it be health, financial, relationship, or whatever, you need to read this book! I have been blown away by the revelation knowledge and enlightenment that I have been receiving from the Holy Spirit! Maybe its the timing of the trial I am in but this feels like the best book I have ever read!

One of the most dynamic books I've ever read on spiritual growth. I highlighted passages all the way through. Sorge's book takes the confusion and often bitterness out of what living for Christ is all about. Inspiring. Unforgettable.

This profoundly impacting book by Bob Sorge has completely turned my "thinking" upside down... or should I say, right side up! I have been slowly reading these pages for about a year now. There is entirely too much "meat" for a quick read... therefore, a book review is quite difficult to complete. Suffice it to say, if you find yourself in a season of "waiting," if your dreams are unrealized, if you're struggling to understand WHY our Father intentionally walks us through times of waiting... then this book will provide enlightenment, encouragement and a stirring up of your faith. Seasons of waiting are for our good, to prepare us for what's ahead, to make us strong, and to press us into HIM. What the "waiting" produces in us far outweighs the pain of crying out. My spirit says "Yes!"

I wish I had the words to adequately express how much this book has helped me. It reminds me of the book of old, Dark Night of the Soul, as it is a guide of sorts for those in their own dark night or fiery trial. It is written by someone who has been to hell and back, and who has much wisdom to share with those still crawling their way through. The depth of my pain and length of my suffering.. I needed this sort of teaching and I needed it to come from someone who has been there and who really lived and experienced it.

So much of what I read from modern authors just doesn't touch my heart and I have a hard time putting into words why. But that is not the case with Bob's writing. It pierces me. It digs down deep.

Towards the end of the book, he writes, "I want to preach a gospel that calls people higher." This book has done just that for me.

Next on my reading list is this book's sequel, The Fire of God's Love. I fully expect to be lifted even higher.

Great book on waiting/getting through hard times. I liked analogy at beginning about buying gold. You will appreciate what you learned from your trials because you “paid” for it during trials. God has not abandoned us during tough times and we eventually realize He is very close as we mature in our walk with Him. Becoming more like Christ requires more pressure. God uses tests to reveal ourselves to ourselves Some interpretations of Bible verses were confusing to me.

This book met a deep need while I was stranded in a season of feeling disappointed with God, and wondering why in the world He was silent, just when I needed Him most! Bob Sorge writes from his own desert, so the book feels sympathetic, practical and relevant, even for a very sore heart.

This was such a difficult book for me to read because I so longed for the be-happy-love-Jesus books that had previously nurtured me spiritually. This book, however, addressed the fact that life sometimes sucks by God's design. I picked this book up several times because it came highly recommended by a good friend, but I absolutely could not get through it while I was on a "spiritual high." However, when God allowed some heartache and nothing seemed to make sense anymore, I picked this book up again and consumed it because it spoke to me in areas where I was hurting, wounded, and lost. It's deep, profound, and hard, but invaluable in navigating through life in the Spirit when it doesn't make sense. Think: Job.

This book along with 3 others was left to me by a dear lady called Carmen when she died some years ago. It is an eye opener! A perspective on unanswered prayers and delayed answers that is biblical without being patronising. It pulls no punches as it takes you on a journey which is a learning curve of practicality, and comprehension of biblical truth not many of us will come across in the things we are formally taught as Christians about prayer and waiting on God.

This book was awesome. I highly recommend it... to those who are going through suffering or even those who have yet to experience intense suffering. He provides such a balanced, Biblical approach, as nearly every page of this book has some Biblical content on it! I love a book that asks hard questions and doesn't shy away or try to give fake answers.

This is the most balanced view of suffering you are ever likely to read. If you believe that God is still working in the same ways that He did in the New Testament but wonder why you haven't seen answers to your own prayers, this book will be of great help.

I initially gave this a 4 star rating and then revised it to a 3 star rating. The last few chapters were a little bit too sanctimonious for me. However overall, I believe that the book has been very helpful to me in finding out why God may delay his answers to prayer.

interesting, but it took a long time to read. I am not sure it contains much more than one person's opinion.
