Evan “Blackheart” Babineaux is a hard-working, hard-partying, playboy who has spent most of his life as the President of the infamous Jokers, a 1% MC, set deep in the swamps of New Orleans.
Blackheart was raised in the swamps, as wild as the cattails that grow there and the alligators he'd learned to wrestle even before he was old enough to drive.
The swamps were also where he first lay his light blue eyes on Sally, the love of his life... and a dead body that neither of them would ever be able to forget.
New Orleans is known across the nation as a melting pot of cultures, its rich Cajun culture, its music, and its non-stop party atmosphere. It's also known for its tales of voodoo, spirits, witches and vampires.
Evan and Sally will learn at a tender age that monsters are more often human than not, and there would be two human monsters lurking in the shadows that would have a heavy hand in shaping both of their lives.
The first installment of The Jokers is the story of Evan and Sally. From two kids who knew they were soulmates, to two tangled paths that have finally come to an intersection in life.
It's the story of two hearts that have beat as one for decades...and the one man who is hellbent on destroying it all.
Evan/Blackheart and Sally grew up deep in the Louisiana bayou with all the beliefs of the Cajun with voodoo and black magic. They both seen things in their young lives that would make adults crumble but these two were bonded together by the feelings they shared for one another. The young couple finally endured something that had Sally running away to college to make a better life for herself.
When she finally returned to the bayou she spent her life trying to make a difference with her nursing skills for the poor and Blackheart’s MC. By this time Blackheart had become Prez of the Joker’s MC carrying on with his life and using Sally whenever he felt the pull toward her because their connection never really went away. Sally had finally wanted something more in her life than Evan’s booty call and she thought Lucian was just the man to help her get some normalcy to her life. He seemed successful and he seemed to really be enamored with her…then again some things aren’t always as they seem. Blackheart was bound and determined he had to be there for Sally because his Paw Paw seen something bad was coming their way.
The suspense in this book kept you on the edge of your seat at times and it always had me pulling for the couple that never seemed to really commit to one another. I’m looking forward to more books from this author in the Jokers MC series.
Wow ! What a great start to an brand new series.I was intrigued from the moment I started turning the pages from the plot of the story to where the story takes place. We loved the magic as they say that surrounds New Orleans and that it is shrouded in legends and myths and culture right down to the black magic and voodoo to those who believe and practice it.
I am sorry to say that it took me awhile to warm up to Evan\Blackheart and Sally as it wasn't an instant love but, as I continued to turn the pages they slowly wormed their way into my heart.
I love that Sally and Evan\Blackheart had a history as they were childhood friends turned lovers and continued their on and off love affair for over 30 years. We loved that had a lot in common like where they grew up and came from and how immersed they were in the culture and the beliefs and how they learned not to brush off the wisdom of the elders especially what they see or how they come to learn it.
Two friends destined to be soulmates but, fate got in the way.I found Evan\Blackheart to be a lot like Doc Marshall in the fact he had the best of the best when it came to Sally and yet, he kept her at arms length even knowing she would always be the love of his life but, the big bad Cajun biker wants the best of both worlds yet, not wanting the women he loves so desperately to have a man that can give her all the things she craves and deserves . Sometimes love is just not enough and my heart went out to Sally as she clearly loved Evan with her all yet, felt stuck in time.
Overall we really loved it as the story was shrouded in mystery and intrigue and the suspense that had you on the seat of your pants at times right down to its character's.We loved where the plot took place and all the descriptions of the bayou and the mystery it holds right down to wrestling of a crocodile like it was and every day occurrence.
In a way a found Evan's and Sally love to be tragic as it kept you wondering why a women like Sally with all that she has accomplished and the beautiful person she was would stay in a complicated relationship like she did but, as the story progresses things start making a bit more sense as to why they were together yet apart but, one thing is for sure Sally is finally seeing to those things she craves out of life and perhaps Lucien the new man in her life can give her what she deserves but, is the cost of leaving your heart behind a fair trade ? Only time will tell.
Final thoughts- I can wait to see what happens next especially with the bomb that was dropped at the end of the story. We will be waiting patiently on pins and needles to see what happens next. And we can't wait to see where the next journey takes Evan\Blackheart and the lovely Sally and will fate finally right itself once again...
I love this author’s writing!! Now we have new characters and a new MC in New Orleans. Blackheart and Sally have a history together since childhood, they have seen a lot together and been through more. Sally has outgrown their established relationship of being friends with benefits. Blackheart wants to keep their relationship status quo. This story is gritty, gripping and dangerous. I can’t wait for the next installment of this series series!!
MC books are one of my favorite books to read but I HATE when the hero claims to loves the women then cheats ( has sex with everything that's walks " because he likes to fu... whenever he wanted") I know they said they are not together but he dose claim to love her but then uses one of the women in the club ....in the meantime the woman needs to remain faithful 🤦 I was disappointed with the books and didn't get the chemistry between the two ☹️
3.5 stars. Blackheart love! What a cover! What a sexy beast the Cajun boss is! I loved everything about him from his interesting background to his MC life to his lady love. Likewise, Sally is a fabulous heroine. Overcoming her poor heritage and becoming a champion of the people she loves so much. I was so excited for this new MC series from this terrific author, especially the locale. What's better than the Big Easy and the mysterious Basin swamp life? I've loved her past series that are more on the suspense/romance side of a MC story rather than the down and dirty side of MC life. Oh, there's good brotherhood, illegal activities, murder and mayhem but not a lot of the clubhouse, club girls, dirty sex found in some. But it didn't work for me and I hate to say that. It's hard to get details right for that small part of the world with the unusual administrative divisions of the state (parishes not counties) and the unique culture and idiosyncrasies of the Cajuns. Most wouldn't clue into the inaccuracies and I overlooked them for the most part but by the end I was frustrated. Hopefully the final edit took care of most. Plus it fell apart at the end for me with the quick, strange resolution to the mystery and suspense with Sally and her stalker. Lots of interesting characters on both sides of the law for future stories and that bomb at the end that could affect Blackheart and Sally. I look forward to the next story about the pretty boy, Gabriel and his girlfriend with a possible tie to the Jokers. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
Jessie Cooke is one on favorite writers of MC Romance book. I can't even count how many of her books I have read. I love how even though her books are about the "Bad Boys" she always gives them a huge heart. They are rough and tough but would do anything for their friends and family and whatever it takes for their Ladies. This book is filled with action, coarse language and hot sex scenes and I loved every page.
Born and raised in the Swamps of Louisiana Evan "Blackheart" Babineaux and Sally Guidry have pretty much always been together. As kids playing in the swamps they were innocent but left to run wild. As adults Evan is the President of The Jokers MC and Sally is a Nurse. Even after almost 50 years they are still together but not really together. Sally has finally fully given up on her happily ever after with Evan and decides its time to move in. In walks Lucien. He's hot and everything he does or says makes him seem more perfect to Sally. Evan jealousy over the relationship spurs him on to find something not right about Lucien. But what he uncovers is even more dangerous then even he can imagine. Lucien doesn't just want Sally's body he want's both of their souls and will do anything to get them.
Jessie Cooke has a read talent in writing alpha men who have very real flaws that even when I'm so enraged with their actions, I can't stop reading about them since it's relatable. Sally & Evan have a long history since they were childhood friends, who fell in love but one night destroyed them. Now many years later, they're friends with benefits as she's not really down with his MC, the Jokers. They have chemistry in spades, but Sally is tired of being at his mercy yet alone as he does what & who he wants, so she finally calls it quits to actually start seeing someone new. Evan isn't so happy with it, but what can he really do?! Well, he starts stalking them because he has a gut feeling about this new guy. Man, I could seriously feel all the Cajun voodoo magic seeping out of my kindle making it so real & colorful. Plus there are a ton of twists that are all turned out leaving me dropping loud f-bombs, not to mention how my heart hurt for Sally more than once. In order to see how it all plays out, you'll have to hit those one click buttons! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
Sally and Evan - known to everyone else as Blackheart - have known each other their entire lives. Bonded by a horrific experience as children - can they find peace now that threat is finally gone?
While this was a pretty predictable story from page one - not necessarily bad but predictable - I mostly loved that they weren't young. They were both grown adults with real concerns about what they wanted out of their decades-long will they/ won't they relationship. Sally had some great moments but was overall kind of a passive and victimized heroine. Which didn't really warm me to her? The last shocker I at least liked that she didn't dramatize. Evan seemed like he should have had a much sweeter part to him and I was disappointed I never got to see it. It was really only hinted at in the end.
I am interested in the other MC characters - and can't wait for their books!
OMG has Jessie knocked it out the park with this series. I was so enthralled in reading that the time escaped me and before I knew it it was 3 in the morning and I had finished the book.
This book had it all from romance to voodoo and suspense for Blackheart and Sally. They grew up together and knew that they were soulmates until something happens to them and they start to question why it has happened. They will have to fight to keep their love but it is worth it.
I don't want to give to much away but this is one amazing MC read that you must one click this bad boy and enjoy the roller coaster ride!
This MC book was different than I expected. The hero and heroine have a long and complicated history together since they were kids; everything from friends, to sweethearts, to lovers, and everything in between to get to their current booty call status. So, when Sally finally decides to move on from MC president Evan “Blackheart” Babineaux, you cant help but root for her for taking a stand. Blackheart is stunned by this new turn of events, along with all kinds of club disasters, and when a new man enters Sally’s life, Blackheart realizes that he seriously needs to reprioritize. He’s a character that brings the old cliche to mind that you can’t have your cake and eat it too.
Evan "Blackheart" and Sally have been friends since they were kids. They love each other but never settled down. Now in their 50s things are coming back to haunt them. Evan has slept around with so many girls. He has proposed to Sally and she has told him no on several occasions. Now that someone from the past has comeback Evan realizes that he is in love with Sally and hates the idea of her not being in his life.
The story is an easy read. You can see that Sally is at her breaking point with the so called relationship she has with Evan. Once she finally decides to move on, that is when he starts noticing that she is his everything.
Evan/Blackheart and Sally grew up together in Louisiana and were friends with benefits when they grew older. Blackheart is the president of Jokers MC, a 1% club and he's happy partying. Sally leaves for college to become a nurse. When she comes back the two hookup but Sally is tired of being just a hookup for Blackheart and agrees to a relationship with another man. Blackheart won't let Sally get away from him that easily and will fight for her. The two are on a wild ride with the past making things dangerous for them.
The couple, not really a couple, have been on and off since they were kids. Now, fifty, they have much to think about. He's long since given up with just having her. She's long since stopped expecting a monogamous relationship. Maybe she needs to look elsewhere.
He has never stopped caring for Sally. Still, as President of the Jokers MC, he has lots of offers. While they may never satisfy like his Sally, he doesn't refuse. When she seems to be looking elsewhere he begins to reevaluate their relationship. He just has a lot going on with the attacks on his club.
This is a different MC story. The author manages to mention some old friends from other clubs, there is New Orleans outer area as a setting, a little ju ju thrown in, and loyal club members with enemies well hidden. There is still plenty of steam and interesting characters I don't want to miss in future books.
This is the 1st on a new series and is Evan /Blackheart and Sally’s story. These two grew up together in the swamps of the Louisiana bayou and have always been friends and know that they were soulmates. Years later Blackheart is now the President of the Jokers, and is a hard-working playboy, and now that their lives are going in different directions as Sally is questioning their relationship, he is determined to get her back, but is he too late? This is a well written story which is an excellent start to a new series, and is filled with action, suspense, loss, lust, and is a steamy read. This is one of the authors’ whose work just must be devoured on one sitting, and I cannot wait to read more from her. I recommend this for all MC lovers.
I really enjoyed Blackheart - The Wild Ones, the start of the Jokers MC Series, on many levels. The book is well written, we get to know the main characters so in depth that I felt like I not only knew them but I knew their inner minds and lastly being a Louisiana Transplant I was so enthralled with the Cajun/Voodoo aspect. I just loved it.
Blackheart and Sally have known each other since they were kids running around in the backwoods bayou’s of lower Louisiana. They were there for each other through all the ups and downs of their young lives. As they grew older and their lives took off in different directions and other people came in and out of their lives, their connection with one another never wavered, teetering maybe, but the other was still buried deep in their souls.
But this is so much more than just a lifelong love story. The storyline is full of suspense, action, lust, lies, loss and so much more. This reader Highly recommends Blackheart (#1 of the Joker MC Series) and I personally can’t wait to see where book 2 takes us.
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Cooke is a master at MC romance and this one is fantastic! It starts with Sally and Evan as kids making a horrible discovery. Flash forward quite a few years to her as a nurse and him as President of the Jokers MC. Their lives have been in and out with each other but life has plans for them. As the danger increases their lives change whether they want it to or not. Makes for a suspenseful yet steamy read that you won't want to put down. I totally loved it so I give it 5/5 stars.
This story spanned almost 40 years yet you only got brushes of the history between Even and Sally. The years don't match in different spots of the story 12 + 30 is not almost 50 and a decade is 10 years not a hundred. Edit, Editor please. I liked the storyline and the characters but the time frame was too long and it felt verrry rushed in the end... And please we do not have a G in N'Orlens.
I had to stop reading this at 45%. It wasn’t a bad read. I’m just tired of books where the female is made out as this innocent victim and that male is the a** who broke her heart. *Spoiler* She allowed this dude inside her body for 20 years without protest, without ever saying no, without no conversation about how she felt about it. And now that she’s about to turn 50, she wants to cry about how she has no husband or children? She put herself in that position. But of course she’s the victim female that got her heart broken because the man can’t read her mind and just automatically know how she feels🙄. She said herself that she never denied him so why is she placing all the blame on him? I want a book where there is no stereotypical female victim and stereotypical mean a** hero (who honestly didn’t do anything wrong). He came for s** and she gave it to him every time. I just want a book where the heroine doesn’t blame everything on the hero, especially when there should be a great deal of blame on the heroine also.
Blackheart is a great beginning for a new series. It offers a bit of everything and with it being set in the bayou's of Louisiana there's definitely the intrigue you would expect. It has voodoo, murder, mayhem and surprises galore in addition to the sexy, dark, romance we all love so well. There's definitely something for everyone to enjoy. Evan Babineaux and Sally Guidry were both born and raised in the bayous of Louisiana. They spent all of their time together and witnessed things as children no child should have to see. Sally went on to become a nurse and Evan went on to become Blackheart, the President of the Jokers MC. Unknown to either of them a stranger comes back into the picture, and with him chaos ensues. He is a dark, demented man and has had his sights set on Sally since he was 14 years old. There's no limits to what he'll do to get Blackheart out of the picture and Sally all to himself. But, there's no end to the lengths that Blackheart will go to in order to protect the one woman he's loved all of his life.
Wow, just wow! I loved this book. The characters, the story the intensity and the emotions, this book had it all. I loved Blackheart aka Evan he was ruthless, protective and a complete a$s but most importantly he felt real. He had emotions and he wasn't afraid to show them...to the right people of course, I mean he is the president of an MC, can't be all pink and fluffy!! Then we have Sally, she was a realist and I loved that about her. She was also a bit of a kicka$s female and who doesn';t love that in their female lead.
As I said, I loved so many things about this book, and one of the biggest things was that the main characters were that bit older and wiser. There was no immature relationship drama, and that is always a bonus!! I love this authors writing style, it is so engaging and emotive. As soon as I finished I moved on to book 2, and I can't wait to get my hands on the rest of this series.
Highly recommended.

In the swamps of the Louisiana bayou, fate leads you down a twisted path as Evan and Sally fight for their lives in the battle against the dark soul looking to extinguish them both. my first book by this author and ill be back for more!. Evan/Blackheart and Sally grew up in the Bayou with Voodoo and magic beliefs the things these two youngest saw would make anyone think twice. They are fated to each other but Sally wanted more so goes off o become a nurse, when she returns Blackheart is now predient of the Jokers MC and their attraction still flares but Sally doesn't want to be a friends with benefits any more she wants something more lasting than Blackheart can give her, and when she meets Lucian she feels he can give her what she wants, but things aren't always as they first appear. well written with a good story plot that keeps you gripped to the pages the characters ooze with charm with chemistry. filled with suspense, twists and turns, sacrifices, love, desire and more

This is the first book by this author that I’ve read and what an experience! The swamps of the bayou and New Orleans has always intrigued me with its rich history and culture. The rich descriptions and depth of her storytelling immerse the reader into the lives of Sally and Blackheart. Sally is a strong woman in all aspects of life except when it comes to Evan. Anyone that has ever been in a toxic relationship can relate to her inability to walk away. Evan is a typical MC president who is loose with his morals but will do anything for family. The two of them survive their traumatic childhoods together and finally figure things out. This is a fast paced book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are a couple of unresolved questions at the end leaving you wanting to read the next book.

“Blackheart was quite different from the usual MC stories I’ve read. The beginning was confusing, at least to me. I wasn’t really into the story until chapter 5. I’m not familiar with the author it was my first book so I’m no used to her previous books but it was still a good story. Evan a.k.a Blackheart was a confusing man. I don’t want to give you spoilers but there was an specific moment that I really wanted to punch him for being such an incongruent man. I really like Sally. Female characters are often the most complicated ones. They tend to be annoying and fake fierce girls but Sally was a likable girl. Anyway it was a gritty story with violence, danger, secrets and love. For me it didn't felt as the conventional MC stories.”
This story moves quickly And you don't wanna put it down. The characters are diverse, interesting And you don't wanna put it down. The characters are diverse, interesting and A little bit crazy. The author makes him real Come like a Come like a life Come out life like Plot The plot The plot is mystery, The plot is mystery, murder and A lot a lot of adult activities. There is a happy ever after at the end of the book but there is so much that goes on before that. It's not a long read you can finish it 1 night I did. I enjoyed this new series I've I enjoyed this new series I've never read before And I think I may be reading more of the books.
This very well written book 1 in Jokers MC series. A fast-paced and standalone book which is first in a series. It will keep you engrossed from start to finish because it has action, adventure, drama, danger, suspense, intrigue, mystery/secrets, surprises, betrayal, romance, passion, and love. This emotional roller coaster of a book will have you hanging on by the seat of your pants and not letting go until you have read the whole story. I love these types of books but this was one of my favorites and I cannot wait to read more in this series and by this author.

I love Jessie’s MC stories! This is her new one for me and it definitely didn’t disappoint! I love New Orleans so I was happy with that part. The characters were great together and the story had a great plot and plenty of suspense and danger. The only part I didn’t quite like was how Sally is the one who said no and let Blackheart go but she seems like she blames him. The story was amazing and seems like a great start to the next one in the series. Highly recommend Jessie’s MC books!

I really enjoyed reading Blackheart the Jokers MC. It's a lot different because it's set in New Orleans. You get the feel of the bayou and it's secrets. It has a dark edge to it because of the city's history but it isn't a dark read. Life gets in the way of young love but it never quenched the flame. Evan and Sally may have lost their way but in the end their love prevails. I love the fact that the Skulls were mentioned and the connection to Maz. Look forward to more Jokers and hidden secrets of the bayou.
