The tribes have wilted. The last of the menfolk have grown old. The human race has been dying since the red comet first soared through the skies above.
My name is Issa, and as the youngest huntress and the only one left within childbearing age, I’m doomed to be the last matriarch of my people. Which would be a great honor, if there were a male to be mine from another tribe. But none have been born, none but my younger brother. It’s been my life duty to protect him.
When the time comes to escort my brother to a neighboring tribe, my friend tells me a rumor of a huntress finding a dragon in the northern plains. And when that huntress touched the dragon’s hide, the beast transformed into a virile, possessively bonded male.
With a thundering heart and nothing left to lose, I venture into the forbidden jungle to find such a dragon. To touch him, to bear his burden.
But the dragon I find is nothing at all like I imagined…
VENYS NEEDS MEN To Touch a Dragon by Naomi Lucas To Desire a Dragon by Amanda Milo To Tame a Dragon by Tiffany Roberts To Seduce a Dragon by Poppy Rhys
Naomi Lucas is an indie author. She loves being creative whether it’s with painting, writing, or making little jingles about her dog, Barracuda, or her cat, Daliah, in the car.
Fewer men are born in the land of Venys as a result there are less people and even less the males. Issa is a huntress, her only duty in life is to take care of her younger brother who has far more important purpose in life, creating more children. Issa knew her life is doomed, never to have a partner or bear a child, she mourns for there are no males in her tribe and the only males that are left they are old. When she hears of a rumour of dragon turning to human hope blooms for the chance that she craves. She sets on a journey naively hoping for the best. Kaos is an Alpha dragon who wakes up from slumber after years hearing the mating call of a femdragon. But a change in fate decides for Kaos which has him in rage.
Kaos and Issa's relationship was full of hatred (on Kaos part), angstful and passionate. I loved every moment of the pages. Kaos was angry and dangerous towards Issa for the life that was stolen from him. But he is protective and caring for her too. Issa is sad for the hurt she cause Kaos but cannot regret what she did. I like the story plot set in medieval period. I'm excited for her next book. My only complain is that the story is short.
h literally caught herself a man. A dragon-man at that. She is naive and is drawn to a male who does not value her and who even hates her. Yet she wants him cause she's suffering from cravingaman syndrome and the fate of her tribe's continued existence rests in her hands. H is arrogant and abusive, a savage and hates humans. He protects and provides for what is his even if he hates the person he's bonded to. I did not like this book.
If you haven’t read this author, pick a different book for your first read. This was disappointing. Some points aren’t explained like why are humans on planet venys? What happened to their technology? They live primitively. When a comet crosses the sky (basic science is that a comet is an icy rock flying through space) changes life for all species on the planet (how?) in particular humans who no longer bear male children (so humans are dying out) and society doesn’t change...you’d think men would have multiple wives or find a way to repopulate but nope. Just accepting their lot in life.
For massive dragons (if randomly touched by a human turn human, losing strength and immortality AND both human and dragon are bonded/tied until death...they can die if the other dies and they feel each other’s emotions). The dragons 🐉 see humans as weak, stupid beings at the bottom of the food chain. So they avoid humans. Curious why humans don’t become dragons or why a rock in space would give humans this weird power over something the size of a city block.
Issa, h, hears a rumor about dragons who can turn into men. She knows that by touch they bond and the dragon becomes human. She wants a man so she simply never considers if the dragon would want to be human (arrogant and selfish)so she goes seeking a dragon. She says to see if the rumor is true but how else would she know but by touching a dragon - changing him forever?
Granted she ends up touching him by mistake (by being where she shouldn’t) but once she touches him she doesn’t let go. And later seems hurt because he isn’t enamored and thrilled to be tied to her without choice? 😧 🤯He is of course horrified and angry! I mean to put it in perspective I would not want to suddenly become a mouse or rat and have to scurry around with a much shorter life span. He hates Issa for destroying his life. Yeah, not a good start. People kept calling him a jerk, but seriously she made an irrevocable change to him. And I doubt anyone would be happy about that. What would have made a better story is if he had choice. And he chose to become human, giving up everything for her. This was more about making do.
The majority of the book is the two traipsing through the forest to get to her home. He hates her but wants to have sex. He still puts off the scent of a dragon so they are being followed by one. So being chased by a creature the size of a house...they aren’t going to be interested in sexy times. And good sex isn’t going to make up for changing his species. But yep, they have lots of sex. 🤦♀️ He hates her til the end and then feels sorry for her when he learns humans are becoming extinct because of no men so he becomes noble and promises to repopulate but only with her. What? This made no sense and wasn’t romantic...at all.

Oh boy, now this was very different from Amanda Milo's books in this series, I read those two first.
This was weird and I wouldn't call any word or line in this "romance". I have nothing nice to say, if this is how Naomi Lucas writes, I won't be reading anything of hers again.
3.5 Fantasy Stars This is part of Venys Needs Men a multi-author series about a primitive-ish world with humans, dragons, and mermaids. To Touch a Dragon and To Mate A Dragon are both by Naomi Lucas and follow the same characters. The “world building” was a bit shaky, and I was initially a smidge confused… but the gist is that a comet has sort of cursed the planet and humans are not reproducing much, and hardly ever birth males, so they are flirting with extinction. The way these tribes deal with this issue, isn’t super logical (you would think they’d just have the male breed all the females instead of choosing one) so you’ll have to just go with it.
The book starts with our h (Issa) chaperoning her brother to the neighboring tribe where she learns of a rumor of dragons that turn into virile males when you touch them. Issa facing a lonely life of being single jumps at the chance. This has a “mate” concept, but it’s not insta-love, Kaos is NOT happy about being turned human against his will, so the couple has some growing pains.
Overall, it was written well told in dual POV’s, and I enjoyed it for what it was... A short, fantasy read with a broody dragon, a strong h, and plenty of sexytime. We are introduced to Aida, Issa's BFF, and h of To Mate A Dragon. This ends with a short epilogue, but there’s a longer one 3-years in the future at the end of To Mate A Dragon with a better update on both couples.
I liked the beginning and the ending, but the middle almost made me throw in the towel. I'm all for enemies to lovers. I don't mind fast past or quick burn. But this guy, ugh. He is like so hot n cold it's borderline abusive. I'm surprised this girl didn't cut her losses and run.
Other than that, I really like the world and the other characters. It was nice to see a change up from the typical all-the-females-are-gone trope. I'll read a couple more in this collection.
This was underwhelming. I found it pretty boring 🥱 to be honest. I think a big part of that is because this story lacks romance and chemistry, between the two leads. Unlike other stories it’s not much of anything else in the book to keep the reader interested. The MMC out right hates that the FMC has made him human and isn’t shy about letting his feelings known. You get a splash of lust between these two, but it literally reads like hate fucking from the MMC and the FMC settling for what she can get since there aren’t any human men available for her. I may or may not read the next book in this series. I want to give this a pass as I’m a fan of another series by this author and that series opening book isn’t great either.
Not feeling it. Pace is way to fast, I currently have no attachment to any of the characters. I think it is my frame of mind and because my last read was by an author of considerable talent. Not saying this author has no talent, it is just simple.
Great idea, pretty good world building, just needs more effort put into it.
I love how strong the women in this series are! The protector of her brother , the only male born in her generation, Issa has dedicated her life to being his protector. Now that her brother, Leith, has come of age she's faced with looking at her own future. Of age herself, and set to be the leader of her tribe, she bares the brunt of her people's plight. With no males, she's the last of her kind. A rumor of a dragon who turned into a man once he was touched to a woman he mated, sends her deep in the jungles.
She finds, Kaos at the heart of that jungle. An ancient dragon male, who was none to pleased about being turned into a human. As his mating heat threatens to consume, they get to know one another as they struggle to come to terms with what life will look like now. Kaos is a possessive, prat I couldn't help loving in the end. He came around as he accepted his new way of life, proving he was worthy of the mate he had.
The writing was impressive. The descriptions of the characters and scenery were breathtaking. I appreciated that the main characters developed feelings for each other over time (no insta-love nonsense).
However, the story feels incomplete somehow. The epilogue helped but it didn’t feel like a conclusion.
Either way, thanks for the recommendation. I too recommend this love story to those who favor fantasy and angst.
Whoa boy. The premise of the book was enthralling. The execution? Not so much. Let me tell you, this is NOT a romance. The intimate scenes leave much to be desired; he was basically abusive during it. I never grew to like him at all. The ONLY reason I gave this 2 stars was because it was fairly decent UNTIL she met the dragon....will not be reading anything else by this author.
Things are rough on Venys and Issa's dream of having her own man someday is pretty much dead in the water seeing as how the only male of her age in their tribe is her brother and there aren't a whole lot of other men out there. Being the awesome sister and someday ruler that she is, Issa channels her energy into keeping said brother safe and locking away her dreams of a different future.
Hearing about the legends of dragons and the possibility there might be one out there (even though part of Issa doesn't believe it at all), she sets out after dropping her brother off at a neighboring tribe to see if those legends are true.
It turns out they are and Kaos is NONE TOO HAPPY about being claimed by a human woman. Especially since it limits him to a very human body. He's a little rough with her feelings at first, but Issa perseveres just by being herself and eventually her dragon's instinct to protect and cherish their lady friend kicks in and he gets gentler. With her, at least, not necessarily gentler in general.
Elemental dragons, mating heats, a planet full of all sorts of wonderful craziness (dragons! mermaids! YAY!), and unfulfilled longings that finally get fulfilled.
As an aside, I am WAY into the cover dragon's hair. Very much what I imagined from the description and pretty darn cool.
Sometimes Naomi Lucas’ books are good. Sometimes they’re just misogynistic words on a page where the female takes away the males choice and the male has no recourse but to have sex with her.
This one was not good. Really not good. I prob should’ve DNF’d in the first few pages when she was CRAVING for a man - ANY man (like ew) but it only got worse and worse.
0% romance. 0% chemistry. 2% lust. 98% arrogant, selfish, almost-rapey-abusive-dragon man accidentally trappped by a selfish horny woman who only wants a male for his cock to propagate her species.
First book of the “Venys needs men” series. I have read other books from Ms. Lucas, specially her cyborg series which I LOVE!! But this book even though good enough, is not even close to her other books. It felt very detached and I was not able to feel the chemistry between the H&h. it could be because is a short book and there was no time to develop the characters as they should. Regardless, I will be reading the rest of the books.
“You are seeded, even now, my female. Your burden is gone, replaced with the constant heaviness of my seed.”
This one’s for my breeding kink girlies😜 (and everyone in-between lol)
For a short story, I’m shocked by how fleshed out this was. It’s a quick read but super well written like a full length novel. I loved it and gosh I love that brooding dragon☺️
Very quick, spicy read. When the human men are far and few between, a rumor of dragons transforming into men arises, our MFC takes off to find one. The plot was okay, the mating bond kind of took over all animosity our dragon had. I would have enjoyed more conversation to heal that anger, but it is what it is. If you just want a quick, spicy, heavily-breeding troupe romance, then you'll like this one.
I don’t know what to write on this book. I kinda liked it, but at the same time it didn’t do it for me. I think it was more Issa I have issues with. She kinda comes across as annoying and dumb.
eu gostei dos personagens, achei a premisa diferente dos anteriores, mais ainda assim faltou algo, o desenvolvimento dos protagonista foi quase nulo o que me causou constante raiva.
