I’d never heard to Madam C.J. Walker before I decided to read this. The concept sounded like something I’d really enjoy. Apparently, she was the first self-made millionaire who made her fortune making hair products for black women. An impressive feat for a black woman during the time period when she was alive. It is the story of a woman who achieved the American Dream, but was denied the rights and protection of the American Constitution. Witness the mother-daughter relationship unfold as both struggle with challenges not unlike what mothers and daughters deal with today. Such timely topics for today's world are found within this poetic drama, that you cannot ...more
