I read this to Julianna tonight. She gives it 5 stars and she gives it a thumbs up she says. ;-) Great story and tells about 2 friends celebrating Chinese New Year as Lily invited Max to enjoy in the party she was having. Book is cute & teaches about Chinese New Year and the different ways Lily celebrates it over 15 days. Great book! :D

Looking for some Chinese New Year books to read to the kids as part of our Chinese New Year weekend/party. This one is decent--a boy learning of a new culture. Some of the things Chinese people do to celebrate (which I knew!).

2/19/18 Never got around to reading it; SD didn't really show interest in it. I wonder if it is because she thought we would ask her to read it since she can tell the difference between picture books and Easy & Beginner Readers. :-(

This is a Red Level book that "presents familiar topics using common words and repeating sentence patterns". It's an alright book. The illustrations are bright and colorful and the story is very simple. It doesn't say a lot of about what Chinese New Year is, but it gives you examples on what someone might do on the first couple of days if celebrating the Chinese New Year.

Max I invited by Lily to come and celebrate the Chinese New Year. Max learns about the traditions and looks forward to participating again next year. Great to introduce Chinese New Year.

Max Celebrates Chinese New Year is a good informational book about the Chinese New Year. There's a short story where Max and Lily help prepare for the Chinese New Year, but most of the story gave more information rather than telling a rich story. I liked how the races of the characters were diverse. Max is African American, Lily and her mom is Chinese, and Lily's father looks like he would be Irish. I was actually surprised to see more than two different races in the book because it was a short read. I rated this book as a three because children tended to be more engaged in a books that had rich, thick plots.

An easy reader look at Chinese or Lunar New Year festivities. Lily introduces Max to her family's traditions and Max decides he likes the holiday so much he'd like to celebrate it every year!

Watercolor and pencil illustrations. Simple text makes for a suitable read aloud for PreK-2.

More than just a cute story, I liked that the book taught us about the foods that bring good luck, how the Chinese New Year is celebrated and featured a biracial family. kiddo and I both enjoyed its simplicity in story and colorful illustrations.

This book doesn't have the cutest illustrations or the best story but I liked it because it taught my child a few things about Chinese New Year.
