Children will want to visit Owl again and again in this hilarious book with flaps, call-outs, and interactive play that will have everyone clapping and flapping along!
Me pareció genial lo interactivo del libro involucrando narrativamente al lector (niñx) en la historia, un ejemplo de que siempre se puede seguir innovando.
This interactive, audience participation story is about Owl, except Owl doesn't really want to participate. So that's problem one: forcing a living being to participate in an activity. Second, when reader's are encouraged to uncover the egg that has been laid in a nest, they are told to "tap on" the egg to see if there's anything inside. It does eventually crack and out comes an owlet (who apparently was laid and hatched in the 2 minutes it took readers to get from page 20 to 25). However teaching children to tap on eggs until it cracks is not the smartest thing the author could have done.
Cute but there are much better owl stories such as Little Owl Lost by Haughton, Owl Babies by Waddell or Owl Sees Owl by Godwin.
This story is so cute. Its funny while also being highly interactive. The pages have different cut outs that truly bring the story alive. The illustrations are also unique and fun. They highlight how silly Owl can be throughout the story. This story would be best used in a preschool and early education classrooms. It would be great to get the children involved because they play a part in what happens in the book. I think this book would be a great segue into learning about nocturnal animals and learning more about owls and their different habits. It could also be fun to have the students create their own "This is ___" stories about animals they choose. Very cute and fun, I highly recommend.
This is Crab; This is Frog; This is Owl; are three titles in this wonderfully interactive series for children aged 3 to 6. As each character is introduced readers are asked to help move them along in their stories by, tapping, clapping, tipping and more. The use of odd-shaped pages and flaps provide children with even more chances to participate in the adventure. Super-fun brightly colored illustrations bring the pages to life. Young and older readers will love sharing and reading this book over and over.
Poor. For a good 'interactive' book i'd point you elsewhere. "flap the pages together and lets get owl to fly" Poor owl! Flapping about the whole world isn't really going to help him is it. we drew the moon in the wrong place, and we didn't really think they chose a good spot for a nest- how has it not blown down, it isn't even on a fork! Least they made it clear owls don't normally build nests like that.
This is a favorite in our house! We got it from a free little library near us and it has been on rotation the last two years. We love this book because it is silly, educational, and incorporates movement. You are flapping, clapping, tapping in support of owl's activities and it is just so fun!
If you are unfamiliar with this book, I highly recommend. It is in my top 20 kids books and would be a great gift for other families with littles if you are looking for something a bit more unique.
This book makes reading extra fun with Little Ones! I really appreciated the interaction, the unusual flaps, and talking and learning about nocturnal animals.
A great step up from board books and I wasn't so worried about flaps being ripped off.
The egg at the end is also really well done. A huge hit. This is a book we will read again and again!

There’s Owl! Is Owl sleeping? Try tickling Owl’s tummy to wake them up! Turn the lights off, then turn the moon on! But don’t make Owl fall off the tree! This adorably interactive and responsive book encourages kids to play along and 'cause' what happens on the next page! It will have your kids flapping and tickling and turning the pages as you get a sweet glimpse into the life of Owl and friends. The sweet story and darling painterly illustrations made me smile, and I love that kids get to make the story happen: it’s just plain fun!
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for the digital advance reading copy of this book.
This book is so much fun! There are so many things for kids to partake in while reading this book; there is kiss blowing, page flapping, and book tilting to name a few. The illustrations are bright and colorful and I think kids will really enjoy reading this book.
This would be a really fun book for story time in a library or a classroom.
This fun book reminds me of Press here. It’s an action book that asks the readers to do something like flap the book's pages to help the owl fly. This would be a fun lap time book, but Press Here still did it better.
Owl has some surprising secrets in store for the reader in this fun, interactive story. On each page, the reader is prompted to help the story along, making this a fun book for storytime. The illustrations have lots of detail and color, and are so cute!
