Will an idyllic summer holiday lead Arnie to the love of his life, or the end of it?

It should be the start of a perfect vacation. After a period of stress, Arnie Walker takes his nine-year-old son AJ home for the holidays. Arnie grew up in Nyemouth, a picturesque fishing town on the North-East coast of England, and he wants AJ to experience the kind of carefree, endless su

A Joyfully Jay review.

North Point is the first book in the Jagged Shores series. This thriller places a significant emphasis on the instant and very physical attraction between Arnie and Dominic. At the same time, the small-town setting adds to the cozy appeal of a story that features no less than three attempted murders (with varying levels of success). Even with all the nefarious activity, the on-page gore is very minimal. For anyone looking for a who-done-it thriller that features a s

North Point is my introduction to Thom Collins and I’m definitely on the look out now for more of his work! This novel begins with actor Arnie and his nine years old son AJ returning home to a small town to avoid the media. Arnie was once married and his ex-wife is quite the media magnet – unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. That attention was carrying over to Arnie and his son.

Arnie has had full custody of his son since some terrible photos of AJ and his mother were posted all over the pl

A gay romance... set in the UK? And there's a murder mystery component? Oh, hello, answer to my dreams!

I really enjoyed this read, about an actor with his young son returning to his home by the sea for the summer. Once there he almost immediately falls for a hunky lifeboat helmsman, and after a few meetings they end up falling into bed (and love). The only complication is the murderer haunting the town - our hero and his son witness the first attack, and then the spectre of a stalker puts a shad

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Arnie is a film and TV start and has returned to his home town with his 9 year old son AJ to spend the holidays in his home town with his extended family. Very early on in the story Arnie and AJ witness a horrific attempted murder. The crime is so sudden and so simple I found it little confronting. In the aftermath of the crime Arnie meets Dominic, a volunteer at the local Lifeboat Station.

The attraction between Dominic and

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I really enjoyed this gentle story of the romance that builds between an actor and a lifeboat captain in a small seaside town.

Both Arnie and Dominic are wonderful characters. While Arnie is described as a well known actor, the Arnie we see as readers is an introverted, devoted father. Dominic has layers to his identity that are slowly revealed as the novel plays out but he feels like a worthy heroic lead from his first daring

This is the first book I've read by Thom Collins, and it won't be the last. I loved the story and the characters. The way the relationship developed between Arnie and Dominic was realistic and felt natural, and the interaction between them was great! I did have some issues with the mystery though. It felt rushed and like the author was stretching, That said, I still liked it and can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Good story, great characters, amazing interactions...you need to one-c

While on summer holiday, Arnie and his son AJ find themselves witnessing something they shouldn't. Arnie calls in to report what just happened, and help is dispatched. Arnie and AJ are taken to the lifeboat station where Arnie's dad and mom are waiting for them. At the station Arnie is introduced to Dominic, the helmsman of the lifeboat, and also a very attractive man. Unfortunately, this is not the right time, nor the right place to be getting interested in someone. However, these two keep find ...more

Young actor, Arnie Walker and his nine-year-old son AJ spend their holidays in Nyemouth, Arnie's hometown. It was supposed to be a time of fun, joy and strengthening the family ties. Unfortunately, a lot changes when Arnie and AJ witness a murder attempt and only thanks to the man's quick reaction the victim of the attack survives. This dramatic event leads to a meeting of Arnie and attractive Dominic Melton, who works as a lifeboat helmsman in his free time. Their mutual attraction can't be den ...more

What I Think: So as we all know by now, I avoid tales with kids as much as possible. But, all these amazing scribblers and puppeteers keep putting them in tales that I just have to read and so, here we are! I have a problem with tales that don’t give me a good idea of what the characters look like early enough. After all, we’re painting pictures with words so the tales unfold like a movie in our minds and I’m so glad that didn’t happen here. Only for a heinous crime to reach out and grab my atte ...more

What I Liked

This book had a real-life feel to it that is often missing in gay romance novels. It deals with small-town gossip, gay fatherhood challenges, jealous “lovers” and the like. The introduction of the murder mystery within the first few pages really helps to get the hook into you. Don’t worry, there is plenty of romance and feeling your way through the beginnings of a relationship around the murder mystery that is playing out in the background.

All the characters were well built and could

We start the book with Archie who is an actor taking his nine-year-old son on holiday to his hometown in the North East of England. What happens when they are walking along the cliffs edge changes their lives for ever and sets of a chain of events that get darker as you turn the pages.
The idea of the holiday is to spend quality time with AJ away from the press and the endless headlines about his ex-wife’s latest scandals. He wants to give AJ some normality in his life and thought sharing his chi

Kept me on the edge my seat!

One of the things I really liked about the story was that there was no angst about characters being gay – no one in town seemed to think anything of it and, in fact, supported the three gay men in the book.

The story started out with a bang that had me waiting for the next thing to happen while I read the budding romance between Dominic and Arnie. The blurb is excellent so I'm not going to try and retell the story in my own words. Instead I will tell you that once I st

A good mystery, which was set in an area where I actually lived, so an extra star for that. I've not come across this author before, but I will definitely read the second book in this series.

The writing is both straightforward and dependable. I guessed the baddie early on in the story, but that didn't make me want to stop reading. Both Arnie and Dominic, were a perfect fit, and this, along with the mystery, made the story very readable.

I loved the description of the area, and of how Arnie and D

Not sure why I chose to buy and read this since I usually give romantic suspense books the side-eye but once again, so glad I did! Arnie and Dominic are a combustible couple who meet when Arnie and his son, AJ, witness an attempted murder. Lots of chemistry between our two MCs and I was surprised at the jump into a physical relationship but it fit the dynamics between the two men. Nice balance of mystery, fear and the developing love between Arnie and Dominic. Arnie is a great dad and that is ni ...more

This book was my introduction to Thom Collins, and I will definitely be reading more. I loved the premise of the story, with Arnie returning home to hopefully give his son a carefree summer, and instead they witness an attempted murder. I was hooked on the murder mystery and if that isn't enough, it's got a meaningful romance between the MCs that builds naturally, and small-town realism. Not to mention how it tugged on my heart to see what a wonderful father Arnie is to AJ. A great story with we ...more

Arnie Walker is a celebrity on vacation in his home town with his son. They witness an attempted murder. Dominic is part of a rescue team, doesn't believe in relationship and very attracted to Arnie and wants to start a relationship with him. The book is well written and easy to read that it will that the characters seems so realistic. I loved that the people in town are so accepting a

A fairly gentle read despite the lurking violence that opens the book but it is more of an undercurrent until the end part.
Arnie is the local boy made good, back for the summer with his son, though the toxic side of fame is highlighted through his ex wife’s antics.
Dominic has made the town home, getting involved in the RNLI helming the boat.
So most of the story is them getting together.
A couple of action sequences with the lifeboat, the escalation of a highly disturbed man gives the nail biting

First, I want to thank Thom Collins and Gay Book Promotions for this book so I may bring you this review.

North Point by Thom Collins is the first in the Jagged Shores series.

This book is dedicated to all the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, every one of them is a hero.

Thom did a great job building up the budding relationship between Arnie and Dominic. Both had careers that I admire-a movie star and writer. It was comical that they both looked eachother up on social media.

There was a very

A great mystery with a surprising killer. I enjoyed the building of the relationship between Arnie and Dominic and loved that Arnie tried to always put his son first. Arnie's whole family was great throughout the book, except his brother-in-law, seriously he was a DB.
I loved how the area was described by the author, made me want to visit this town.
