Keep my head down. Reclaim my memories. Don't trust the Horseman.
They tell me I've killed someone, they point at the blood on my hands, but I don't remember doing it.
At Harrowgate Prison, the only sentence is life. There are no parole boards, no getting out. My only hope lies in the hands of a man they call the Horseman of Devil Falls.
He's a warrior, a monster, a slayer of Outsiders like me, but a soon as I lay eyes on him, something inside of me ignites. Lust? Rage? Maybe both. I hate him, I want to kill him for what he is, but the attraction is magnetic, and confusing.
He wants me to help him track down a group of dangerous killers because I'm the only one who knows how they hunt. There's no getting out of Harrowgate, but he has the power to make my stay more comfortable if I agree to work with him. I don't see another choice.
He's confident we'll be able to deal with the threat. Arrogant. But not even the mighty Horseman is ready for the storm bearing down on Devil Falls.
The Devil of Harrowgate is a fast paced urban fantasy series by an author constantly praised for bringing a touch of freshness to the genre.
Katerina Martinez is a widely known author who writes supernatural fiction with a creepy, thrilling, and romantic bent. A veteran of many years of writing, she is the author of Dark Siren, the first book in the breakout Half-Lich Trilogy which became an instant bestseller in 2016. She continues to expand her back-list with books such as Wings of Light, and Heart of the Thief, and Night Hunter - three series starters that all take place in the same world.

It was a good book but it ended too abruptly for my taste. I can already tell that someone has filled Six's head with lies. If my memory is suppressed for a mission so that I can go undercover and then when it is unlocked, I find that I was always suspicious of the people that suppressed my memories, why would I believe anything they say. It's common sense to me. I'd try to do some little research in what ever way I can before I decide if I'm going to kill the person or not.
Six didn't jump in and kill him though, despite what I've just said but she didn't do any research either. The reason she didn't kill him is because her body kept tingling and flooding with heat anytime she was around him. My eye roll gave me a headache when I read that.
I might read the next one, as I said, it ended abruptly so I want to know what The Horseman is as well as what Six is.
This was soooo good! I stayed up stupid late and read to 90% in one go, as I just could not put it down.
I'm not going to say too much, because it would spoil what gets revealed, but I pretty much liked everything about this.
Six was a total bad ass, but managed to not be some snarky, over blown stereotype, as it often the cast with UF leading ladies. I liked her and understood her reactions.
The Horseman is sufficiently enigmatic and, again, manages to tow that fine like between being an alpha hole (usually my worst type of guy characters) but having hidden depths where we've barely scraped the surface.
The only downside is I can't now gloriously binge the series, as its the first book!!!!
I’m fairly new to this author duo, and I’ve really liked everything I’ve read so far. I was excited to read this series starter, and I dived right in. From the moment I started it, I was hooked. Six was an interesting character, and the Horseman intrigued me especially with what happened later in the book. It’s hard to say much without giving away spoilers, but I will say Six is a kick-butt heroine with a dark past. And she goes through a lot in the Harrowgate prison. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen especially with how the end played out. This is a great, dark urban fantasy, and you should definitely give it a try. You don’t need to have read the other series. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Cliffhanger ending. Story was just ok. I don’t feel the need to continue the series not that I’m opposed to it. 🤷🏻♀️ It was meh 😑 2.5 or a generous 3 star book.
The romance was hot and abrupt, and we really didn't learn too much about the backgrounds of either character in the main couple, but it was an entertaining quick urban fantasy red with lots of action and a mysterious morally-ambiguous secretly-suffering MMC.

*Thoughts*
Night Hunter is the first installment in author Katerina Martinez's The Devil of Harrowgate series. As the story opens, our protagonist, Six, finds herself in Harrowgate Prison. She's covered in blood, she has no memories, but allegedly, she murdered someone in cold blood in a place called Devil Falls. Six is collared by a mage, and has her wings, yes, she does have wings as indicated by the cover, bound as well. As we pull back the cover on Six, we learn that she is being called a fiend since she is not from Earth and apparently fell through a rift in the sky.
It was interesting. I don't feel like i've leanerd enough about the universe yet to decide what i think of it but the story was really interesting and i do like the main character "Six" she is loyal and determined to protect other ...simply i feel like she may be misleaded. Also it's not like those who tasked her with this mission made sure she would stay safe.
Really it's good and i can't wait to see this will lead the different characters, the cliffhanger was a little too harsh in my opinion but it's a great start of a new series, quite dark but with some touvh of humour and lot of action
Night Hunter by Katerina Martinez is the newest book in her newest series. The author starts the book off with a character who has taken a life. The kicker? She can't remember doing it, who she is, or how she got to this world. She's on a mission and her mission? Infiltrate Harrowgate Prison and kill the Horseman. The thing about Harrowgate Prison? There is no getting out. Katerina Martinez is one of my favorite authors so when I learned of this book I was excited to check it out. The author drops me into a familiar world and even gives me a brief glimpse of some familiar characters as well. I almost squealed with excitement. LOL! The author knows how to build suspense with this book and I love the variety of characters as well. I'm always up for something new and unique and the author is quick to give me that with one character that is found in the prison. I like how Katerina Martinez builds this story. Things flow pretty quickly along so there is rarely a dull moment in this book. You get a taste of what the prison life must be like for the prisoners and how they are treated by the members of the Coalition. While the Coalition may be bad, there is another danger soon to be knocking at their door. This book is hard to put down and a good prison-style story. My only real disappointment with this book is the "romance" angle. There is an attraction there between the characters, but I wanted it played up a bit more than it actually is. When things get steamy it's a bit out of nowhere. Now, don't get me wrong, it does elevate the moment and make more of a forbidden element, but I wanted a bit more lead up to it. For me, it came off as more of a reveling in survival than actual attraction until after the fact when they part ways. I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I like how the storyline flows and the ending has me eager for the next installment of this series. Things have taken more than a couple twists and I can't wait to see what happens. If you are looking for a new prison paranormal romance series then I can easily recommend this book to you.
This is a world that sucks me in no matter what vantage point I’m seeing it from. Now I’m pretty desperate to see even more. We started to learn about Six in the Obsidian Order. We got our first taste of Harrowgate in the Wardbreaker. Now we get to see what happens when these two are brought together. It is nothing like I was prepared for or expecting. And, I really should know by now that unless it’s the final book in the series, (and sometimes even when it is), this author is going to leave me turning the air blue because she has such consummate skill at setting one final trap at the exit, one last revelation that spurs more questions than it answers. For all my love of words, I don’t have the right ones to explain how much I loved this book. I NEED the next book. I NEED to know what happens next. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
This fast paced urban fantasy is full of great action, steamy romance, and a twisting story that will have you on the edge of your seat! The storyline is exciting and intriguing and will just grab you. The characters are mysterious and create plenty of chaos and mayhem. Throw in some drama and suspense, danger and a little romance, oh and don’t forget the twists and turns to keep you hooked and you have a fantabulous start to this series!
I loved the 'The Obsidian Order' series and was so excited to read Six's story. I'm happy to say it did not disappoint! 🤩
Firstly, I love how all of the series intertwine. You not only get The Obsidian Order but the Wardbreaker series as well! 🖤
Okay, Katerina Martinez knows how to write bad ass heroines. She also knows how to write action packed stories that you can't put down. Night Hunter was action packed, steamy and full of well developed characters. I finished it in one night. Who needs sleep when you have Six and the Horseman!? Six's attitude was hilarious perfection. The Horseman was perfection. And their chemistry was....WOW. Is it too soon to ask for book two??
My only complaint is that the book was too short. I needed mooooore!😭
3.5🔥 ‘Night Hunter’ is book one in Katerina Martinez’s The Devil of Harrowgate series. This book ends on a cliffhanger.
A new to me author.
Six has no memory of who she is, what she is or how she has ended up in an interrogation room covered in someone’s blood. She is a prisoner at Harrowgate with no hope of release or escape, and the guy running Harrowgate is the notorious Horseman, known for his brutality, slaughtering and imprisoning Otherworlders.
I had trouble getting into this book, it has a slow start, was a little confusing at times with names and beings being a little hard to remember. But around the 60-70% things really pick up and take off.
Katerina Martinez has done a wonderful job bringing this world and characters to life. Six is a strong, kicka** heroine who never backs down no matter what is thrown at her. The Horseman is mysterious, s*xy, alluring and oh so intoxicating. These two are like fire and ice both from different worlds and species but the dynamic pull and push between them is off the charts steamy...
I can’t go into much detail in this review as it will be major spoilers that will ruin your experience and journey. But I can say this give it a try you will enjoy it, like i said it is a little slow to start but if you stick it through you will be in for one enjoyable ride.
I absolutely love the main character. Six is such a kick butt heroine and I love her take action attitude. The story starts off with intrigue and the author slowly pulls the puzzle pieces together, taking the reader for a ride. I’m interested to see where the series goes
Wow what an amazing start to a new series, Six first appeared in the 3rd book of The Obsidian Order but this series is set a few years after that series ends so our Six is now all grown up and a strong woman in her own right. I don't want to add spoilers because its important that you read the storey to find out how and why she ends up in Harrowgate Prison but its fair to say that the prison has never seen the likes of her before - i also love that there are some other characters that had small bit parts in the Obsidian Order when they Visited Harrowgate also come back in this series. The plot is intriguing starting off in one direction but subtly changes as the storey unfolds and things are not entirely as they as they seem at first glance. Twists and Turns you expect with Katerina but this storey also has a little more heat and romance than some of her other series felling a bit slow burn at the moment and i am so hopeful that this will ramp up a bit more as the series develops. There is definitely more to the Horseman than meets the eye and also something about ending that promises so much more to come in the next book. So excited to see how this series pans out and am already in love with the main characters!!!
I really enjoyed this first book in this series and the cliffhanger definitely left me wanting more! Luckily for me, I have waited until all the books were released before starting this series as I hate waiting for the next one with cliffhanger endings like that!
Six is in a vicious prison for supernaturals, having no memories of what she has done to get herself locked up. When she does get her memories back, she finds out that she is an undercover agent for an organisation determined to being down the Horseman, the head guard of the prison and in turn hopefully put down the prison itself. Not such an easy mission when Six spends time with the Horseman himself and her feelings and emotions are throwing her sideways!
I really liked Six - she was feisty, strong willed and sarcastic too! Even though this prison suppressed her magic, she kicked a few butts here and there! I'm intrigued by Azlu as well - there's definitely an ally there for Six, but I really want to know how Mother knows everything! The Horseman is an interesting one as well - what an earth is he? I hope we get to find out in the next book!
Night Hunter is a wonderful mix of Jason Bourne, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance and Suspense. I really liked the FMC in this story. I also liked The Horseman, what little we know of him. The story is told mostly from the FMC’s POV but we get a couple short chapters from The Horseman as well. The story ends on a cliffhanger, so beware of that if you dislike cliffies. This was a short, fast and action packed read. I would be interested in reading the next book in the series. 3 ½ stars!
Six is undercover mission at the Harrowgate Prison. She originally didn't know who she was or what happened. Her memories were restored by her allies. She is there on a mission to take out the Horseman. Six is supposed to lie low and make it so the horseman thinks she is harmless. Horseman has other ideas, he has her brought to his office. Six is drawn to him, which throws her off. Six has no choice but help him investigate the Crimson Hunters that have come to Dark Falls. When there is a death she is pulled into a trap. She sees someone she hasn't seen and thought was dead. She still has to figure out what is happening between them.
This book really hooks you from the beginning. You are immediately drawn into the story. I recommend reading this book. I really enjoyed it and can't wait for more of this series.
I have been totally thrown off my suppositions. The Horseman is not one of the Apocalyptic Horsemen. Six is a "fiend," and I'm not sure if that makes her good or evil. This book ends on a cliffhanger. It has really grabbed my attention, so I'm downloading the 2nd book right now. In looking at the other novels written by Katerina Martinez, I note I should probably know some of the above. Without knowing, I am still intrigued by this novel.
I would like to note, by the way, this author needs a better proofreader. I was pulled from the story a few times because of sentences that didn't make sense because a word was out of place, the wrong word/spelling was used and another word was cut off after 2 letters. None of these would have been caught by a spellchecker.
This was an exciting read from start to finish, you get thrown straight into the story with the main character and you know what she knows, which is nothing! Katerina then expertly dripfeeds you information as the main character unfurls her story and I loved the way you learn everything at the same pace. It’s a mystery that’s brilliantly crafted, and the characters are complex and intriguing. The main character is driven, determined and a little bit badass. She’s quite funny and I laughed aloud at some of her moments. The Horseman was so interesting, send a shiver down my spine just thinking about him. Surrounded by an air of mystery wrapped in an enigma. I can’t wait to learn more about him. I got to the end of the book and wished there were more pages!! I can’t wait for book 2!
If you are looking for a dark good UF book to read, well I think I may have found the series for you. Once you get started reading, you are not going to want to stop until the end.
I do not want to give any spoilers away, but I can tell you that Katerina sure knows how to write a good action packed story. The characters are amazing. I love Six. She is such a fighter, and fights for what is right. NIght Hunter is well written with action all through out the story. The pace is fast and the plot had me from the start. I mean come on, the Horseman of Devil Falls. Yep he lives up to his name. I think I am in love!!
Anyway this is a great start to a new UF fantasy series that I would definitely recommend.
It was a nice change to meet the lead character from the start, who then turns out to be someone who doesn’t initially know who they are and it turns out later that they were in the Obsidian Order Series, along with some other characters along the plot line, who I won’t mention (so no spoilers!).
The story is superb with lots of twists and turns and you keep trying to guess where it’s going next an who is who…..all to little avail until things get revealed….a thoroughly enjoyable mystery thrown in with magic, action, adventure, mystery and bravery. I couldn’t put it down!
I am really looking forward to book two, I hope it’s not too long before its out. I happily recommend this book to all!
That was something else! I loved it! You got mystery, and fights, and a bit of intrigue. Who really is the bad guy here? It’s really hard to say! What is going to happen. Oh and I’m so happy Azlu is in here. I hope we get more of her story along the way. Six is a great character, so entertaining and enjoyable. I can’t wait to see what she does next. The Horseman, he is very mysterious and it’s hard to decide what his real motivation is, does he really hate all outsiders, is he perhaps deceived? Misguided? And what about the Warden? Is he going to be the real bad guy here? There is a lot going on and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
Wow!!! This is my first time reading this author work but let me tell you that it won't be my last. This book was fire from the get go!!! And even though I don't feel like I've learned enough about the universe yet the characters are very intriguing and have lots of secrets I can't wait to uncover them all especially the intimidating Horseman. Overall a enjoyable and entertaining read and a great start for a new series. It does end on a cliffhanger but I'm really excited to see what else is in store for this series. I voluntarily read and review this ARC no monetary compensation was received and the opinions I have expressed are my own.
This one started out with a bang and just kept going! The characters are intriguing and have secrets I cant wait to uncover especially the Horseman! I love being able to delve into the mind of Six especially with how she's aged, just seeing into her past through her eyes really make you understand her more clearly. There are new faces as well as a few old ones we get to glimpse again. New friendships and betrayals. The story is mysterious, suspenseful, well detailed, and fast paced and will leave you craving for more. I throughly enjoyed the book and cant wait for the next installment.
I am taken away with this story. For me it was an amazing adventure that was a total surprise. There was so much revealed as the story moved forward, I do not know how to begin. I will say that nothing is truly as it seems, and there is more to the characters than we can even begin to realize. The ending was a huge surprise and I will be reading Dusk Stalker to find out what is next. No spoilers here. I received an ARC from the author and I am leaving this Totally Honest review because I choose and I Loved this book. Happy Reading!
I really liked that we are drawn back into to Devil's Falls, and get a much more in-depth look at Harrowgate. Ms Martinez has proven time and again that she is adept at pulling the reader in and holding us spellbound until suddenly blindsiding us with the end of the book and a pile of unanswered questions for which we desperately need to know the answers! I read many authors in many genres and formats and Ms Martinez never disappoints. She has earned the shelf in my bookcase, time and time again.
The first book to a new series and I just couldn't put it down! We met Six briefly in The Obsidian Order series but now she is all grown up and on a mission. She exudes power and strength but does she have the strength to resist? The Horseman is not what you expect. I need to know more about him because he is...just read it and you'll understand!! As for the ending, totally unexpected and I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2.
Enemies to Frenemies 🖤😈 Freaking Fantastic! And exhilarating-fast-pace Nonstop-action! From the very beginning you will be hooked!! i couldn’t stop! An agent with a mission..and got royalty screwed 💔. I loved this hardcore! Enemies with benefits!? 😱 wait.. no... lets just say an “agreement “ that involves pizza and bath bombs 😈. maybe something more but we dont know yet! I need the next book pronto! Im seriously crushing on this horseman 🖤#melikebadboys#myhorseman
