** Please note that Beautiful Legend is a STANDALONE and is NOT part of The Darlington Elite Series**
He barged into my life my junior year of college. Brooding, mysterious, and barely talks to anyone—Joshua Travin is allegedly as skilled in the bedroom as he is on the rugby field. He’s everywhere I go, always watching. Despite his obvious distaste for me, I find a familiar comfort in his green eyes.
I’ve spent every day since I was seven hiding my past, trying to forget the attack that killed my mother and my sister. The attack I barely survived. Now, I never let anyone in. Even the people who would consider me a friend? They don't know the real me.
An angsty romance read with suspenseful elements. Addie’s past had made her fearful, guarded and always ready to run. Then she met Josh and they fell for each other so beautifully❣️ The story was very well written, held my interest and all characters played their parts amazingly. Although I realised Josh’s connection to Addie, I didn’t see the last twist coming! 😲 I liked it, I just wasn’t so much thrilled.
▪▪▪ Your eyes are the most beautiful shade of blue. Even when they’re sad ▪▪▪
This story was so beautiful and I really enjoyed it. This was a New Adult Sports Romance with some added suspense and definitely exceeded my expectations. Once I started reading I literally didn't want to put it down once. I loved the flow of the story and the way it was written. I predicted a few of the storylines and of what was going to happen but none of that took away from my enjoyment of reading how the story went down which was kind of epic
Addison is a very gaurded yet simple 20 year old attending Kensington College in Maryland. She often prefers flying under the raider and is still dealing with the pain and hurt from losing her mother and sister at such a young age in a horrific way. After her friends/roommates convince her to join them in attending a rugby game, which is banned on campus so always played away from the school, she finds she has attracted the attention of one of the players, Joshua Travin. From then on she can't seem to escape the broody and mysterious Rugby player as he tends to be everywhere she is and she can't help the connection she feels to him as if she knows him more than she should.
I loved everything about Addison even though she was vulnerable and had many insecurities she was also such a kind and caring girl with a heart so big and full of love and compassion. Her relationship with Josh was so beautiful and they were both so perfect for each other. Josh was super protective, patient, sexy AF aswell as being sweet and super swoon worthy.
The side characters were amazing (well some of them but you'll have to read to know more 😉) And that plot twist towards the end was crazy.
This was the first book I've read by Waverly Alexander and I can't wait to read more
《book aesthetic made by me. I do not own the pictures, all found via pinterest》
This is an angsty and steamy college romance. It was enjoyable, and there were many great twists throughout. Addison is a true survivor and a fantastically written romance heroine. While this book is marketed as an “angsty” college romance, it’s so much more than that, with lots of drama, intrigue, and steamy bits. 4 stars.
This author is new to me and has been a nice discovery.
When I heard about this book and saw that it was a college romance I knew I had to read it because I love that genre. I must say that the beginning of the story, although it's a bit mysterious because of the attitudes of the main characters, I feel that something was missing to get me into it, but at the same time still there’s something that kept me going. Maybe it was that at the moment Jeff keep appeared everywhere I began to imagine where things would go and what Josh's secrets were, since we've known Addison's since the beginning of the story, and that's when I got completely caught up.
Addison and Josh will have to open up and trust to each other, but their relationship will survive the truth? How do you move on with someone who could be a constant reminder of your greatest loss?
In conclusion, in this story we will find main and secondary characters with the perfect dose of drama, madness, envy and such an endless and compassionate love for the dogs that Addie makes the end of their days one that allows them to leave with the joy of being happy in all the extension of the word, without a doubt a beautiful gesture on the part of the protagonist.
It was a reading that I enjoyed very much, especially the ending because of the way the author closes the story.
Note: Jeff and Taylor have fascinated me and I hope they have their own book, I'm just saying ;)
ARC generously provided by author in exchange of my honest review. Thank you so much. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5
This is the first book that I have read from this author and I really enjoyed it. Loved Josh and Addison. Great chemistry between them. Love the angsty feel of this romance. Great read. This is the perfect book to read to escape from what is going on right now. Highly recommend this story. I can’t wait to read more from this author.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Waverly Alexander can write angst like no other. This steamy romantic suspense is everything I look for in a novel wrapped in one: smokin’ hot scenes, chemistry, mystery, and some comic relief! And be warned, you WILL lose sleep over this book because you absolutely cannot put it down!
The characters are wonderful, the writing is spectacular, and the plot line was very interesting with a slight twist that I didn't see coming. A dramatic climax and great ending. One of the things I love most about this author's writing is how deeply she makes me care for her characters and how strongly she makes me feel for them. Deception and pain, love and loss, secrets and truths, hope and redemption, angst and love - this book has it all.
Addison’s life has changed completely at a very young age, and she’s pretty much closed up and she is skittish in trusting anyone. But, now in college, she’s coasting through life, getting by simply ok until Josh Travin shows up and is suddenly she sees him everywhere. There is just something about him that is just confusing yet comforting.
I really couldn’t put this one down. Josh was intense, protective, and you could feel his feelings for Addison through the pages. I want a guy to look at me like that. There was some suspense, fun friends, sweet Remi, enjoyable and not so enjoyable characters. There are secrets, twists and turns. I couldn’t put this one down, but when everything came out in the open! Wow!!!!
Addison is just trying to get through college without any complications, namely, Josh Travin. He watches her. He stalks her. But she feels safe when he's around. It's unnerving considering Addison's tragic past. He's hot one minute and cold the next. Like he's hiding something from her. And what's with the feeling she knows him somehow? She's had plenty of interest from other guys, but she never wanted any of them like she wants him. And most important of all, she trusts him which doesn't come easily for her.
Addison's kind and caring personality is first seen by her adoption of elderly dogs who are left at the shelter do die alone. As Josh says she is a hospice for dogs. It's no wonder Josh fell for her the first time he saw her with her dog Remi. Allison is also very patient and tolerant of her insecure and downright nasty roommate, Laney, who is desperate to find someone to love her. There is more to that story that I won't spoil. Josh is a troubled and lonely rugby player who has a secret that may destroy his relationship with Addison. He's very alpha and protective of Allison, but he has a soft and loving side that is saved for her alone. They are a broken pair who deserve happiness.
My favorite character has to be Jeff, Josh's gruff and funny cousin. His feisty banter with Addison's other roommate Taylor is the best.
There is some suspense in this story that comes to a head at the end. It seems like someone is trying to scare Addison and her roommates and Addison is concerned it has something to do with the death of her family. It's a shocking reveal that surprised this reader.
I recommend this moving and engrossing love story with intriguing characters and a gripping and revealing ending.
Thank you to Ms. Alexander for giving me the opportunity to read this book with no expectation of a positive review.
If you want angst, then Waverly Alexander should be your one stop shop! Beautiful Legend is her second book, complete standalone, and it did not disappoint. She is seriously talented in the art of angsty college romance with strong and inspiring female leads and swoon worthy alpha males. This book hooks you in right from the beginning and you instantly fall in love with Addison and Josh. Let’s not forget about Jeff and Taylor either - I hope they get their own book because that I one relationship that I would love to see what happens!!! The chemistry creates between both Addison and Josh is electric and their love story literally makes your heart tingle! Not only do you get such a beautiful story that is fully of angst, but you also get the added in twists and mystery from the secrets that our main characters hide. A seriously good read that will have you completely engrossed and unable to put it down!
Let me just start this off by saying... REMI 😭😭😭 the cutest little fictional fur baby!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Beautiful Legend. It had the ideal amount of angst and there was so much chemistry between Josh and Addison.
Addison is the absolute sweetest girl. I wanted to hug her the whole way through the book. I’m so glad she got her HEA because she’s been through hell and back. Josh is brooding, rugby-playing perfection. He was such a lil cutie and I loved him! His devotion to Addison was the sweetest.
The supporting characters were great, especially Taylor. She was my favourite! The twist at the end had me surprised, I wasn’t expecting what happened, but I adored the epilogue. It was the sweetest.
2 thumbs up. Beautiful Legend is a page turner for sure. This story will keep you interested all the way until the end. It's a page turner. There are secrets and surprises you would never expect. Waverly brings you all the drama and swoon worthy moments you love.
Addison and Josh are adorable!!!!!!! Josh though when you first meet him....you have a feeling there is more to him.
The ending shocked the hell out of me! I wasn't ready for it. I only discovered Waverly not that long ago and I already love her writing. Her books are amazing and ones you will never forget.
Beautiful Legend by Waverly Alexander is an angsty college romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Juniper Young.
This is the first book of Waverly’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. I was hooked from the very beginning and I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next. Addison and Joshua relationship is a bit messy but you can’t help but root for them.
Juniper did an amazing job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of her work in the future.
I would highly recommend this book if you like angsty romances, romantic suspense, or contemporary romance.
Wow, the twists in this book we're intense! While i saw some things coming, other stuff I never woulda guessed! And the chemistry between the Addison and Josh? Hot damn! With all the angst, you knew when they finally got together it was gonna be intense and they did not disappoint! Definitely worth the read.
3 letters OMG I loved this book the angst, twist the sweet romance and the betrayals god the perfect blend of everything. I love addison and Josh and was very sad to end their story. Cant wait to see if perhaps Jeff and Taylor recieve a book or not.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Oh wow, this just pulled me right in.... Secrets, tragic past, passion, angst, suspense and more. I fell for Josh and Addison, totally loved their characters. I rooted for them. It broke heart, made me smile, so many different emotions. Very enjoyable read for me.
No one does college/sports romances like Waverly. Honestly, this book is sooooo freaking good. Addison is a survivor, and she is written like a survivor.. idk if that makes sense? I mean that in a good way btw! She’s strong yet has issues and triggers but she’s caring and just honestly such a well rounded character. I really love Addison’s character. Let’s talk about Josh real quick, woooo, so hot. I love him. Speaking of loving Josh lol this book has some steamy scenes!! Oh and I wanna mention that the side characters in this are amazing! I’m not gonna give names because if you know who I like it’ll potentially spoil it for you. I do wanna mention that Remi is my favorite part of the story, I adore her💕
*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.
Addison is trying to enjoy college the best that she can with a traumatic past. She was doing fairly well until Josh pops up. He seems to be everywhere for no reason she can see. Leads to some interesting interactions between them as it all plays out. Add in that each one has a big secret to get one interesting romance that ends with our HEA. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.
This had some twists and turns I didn't see coming. I thought I was getting an angsty college romance--which I did get--but there was so much more to it.
This was my very first book I read by Waverly Alexander and was very impressed!
This is a Angsty College romance, with a twist that i didn’t see coming. The suspense/mystery in the story definitely had me not going to bed b/c I was wanting to know what was going to happen next! Next thing I knew it was 3am and the book was finished! This book had me hooked and gave me all the feels (I cried, rolled my eyes, smiled)!

Reread September 2020: So Waverly was kind enough to send me the audiobook version of this book and I gave it a listen/reread of sorts and I still love this story a lot. I love how simple it is while also adding different layers of suspense and mystery to the story, it’s just a really nice quick read that’s such a fun escapism romance to indulge in for a little while (ARC Provided in Exchange for Review) So this is the first book I’ve read from Waverly after finding her through different book accounts and I must say I really enjoyed this one I really liked Addison as a heroine and loved that she wanted to use her trauma to give back and still have so much love to give, her love of older dogs just made me love her even more And now we have Josh, he really did annoy me at first but after a while he really grew on me and I’m always a sucker for male leads that are mainly closed off to the world but have that one soft spot for their girl However, I do feel like the “secrets” between Addie and Josh should have been revealed sooner in the story rather than saving them for the very end and I do wish we could have seen more of them as a couple together, but overall I really enjoyed this one and I can’t wait to read more from Waverly in the future!
I can't put into words how refreshing it is to see a romance that is more than having sex all the time and calling it chemistry. This story is straight to the point and simple which I loved. It is a nice break from all the other overly dramatic and complicated sex stories they call romance that I have been reading.
I would have given this story five stars but something threw me off. Idk about anyone else but if had a hunch that I knew someone from somewhere before, I would want to know every single last detail immediately. I just felt like it was unrealistic how they waited until the end to tell each other the truth. This was not even a major issue it just worried me because I assumed that most people would want to know the truth, especially with her past of not trusting people.
anyway, this was a very lovely book and I love how beautifully the emotional connection with her dog was portrayed.
This is a well written standalone that I thoroughly enjoyed. It’s a really beautiful story with a great storyline and plenty of twists and turns that had me gripped. I basically read this in one sitting as I refused to put it down.
I can’t wait to read more from this author if Beautiful Legend is anything to go by.
Sometimes the people we are most interested in are the ones we think we pay the least attention to. Yet they invade our thoughts. Addison is a girl who goes to Kensington College, seemingly an ordinary girl who with her friends starts a regular life although she hides all the pain of her past. All until a series of events causes her to meet piercing green eyes. Rugby becomes the perfect excuse to meet again and never separate again. Joshua is the mysterious boy who will capture your senses and make your skin crawl. A stronger connection than they think brings them together, but there is no one worse blind than the one who doesn't want to see. It's a story of sports romance and suspense. I think at this point it's safe to say that the dark-haired mystery boy will always win my heart. Plus with those eyes you can't help but want to get lost in them. Addison is an incredibly strong girl with a beautiful spirit. The two of them are the perfect combination for drama and love, they just need to admit it. The most beautiful thing about this book, not only is it's characters and story, but the main character Remi Sue's beautiful sidekick, who stole my heart. Also the playlist is a gem.
The first half of this book really hooked me, I really enjoyed it and there was a great twist in it.
What I loved...... i loved the chemistry between Josh and Addison. I usually love the female protagonist to be strong, feisty and a real badass. Although Addison was a lot softer than what I usually enjoy my leads to be, I think it worked for her. She didn't seem weak to me, her experiences just made her more reserved which I understood. I also loved how mysterious Josh was at the beginning (despite the fact I felt that die off too early as he soon became so into her and there wasn't as much push and pull as I would have expected).
I enjoyed the twist in the book and it wasn't what I was expecting - so props for that. I'm glad that was written into the book. I did guess the twist RIGHT before it unfolded but that is only due to how the antagonist was portrayed later in the book.
I love love loved that Addison adopted dogs close to death. This really made me love her character and really enjoyed Remi's small part in the book (even though she was just a dog). It added depth to Addison's character and made her more likeable in my opinion.
So things I didn't really love. I felt that the whole 'we have secrets we need to discuss' part was repeated so often, it got a bit boring. In the end I was getting a bit annoyed thinking to myself 'stop discussing needing to talk and just get on with it' ... it seemed to drag out a little bit too much at this point.
I feel like there could have been a tiny bit more or a relationship development during the part of 'I have a secret' and the end. I would have wanted a bit more of their lives dating before it went straight into I'm obsessed and love you part - that's just me though.
I also would not call this an enemies to lovers book. There was no part of this that I felt they were enemies - you can't call someone an enemy just cause they glare at you and avoid you at the beginning - so i felt a bit deceived there. I would have loved there to be a bit more of sexual tension before hooking up.
I would give it a 3.5 overall because it started off so strong but by the end I found my interest had dropped quite a bit, I just wanted the story to move on. I also think I was left a bit disappointed by lack of enemies to lovers despite that being in the title.
I liked it enough to finish it and was connected in the beginning but probably wouldn't find myself re-reading it.
