Close to Home Series — Book 1

Nia has one rule—don't date neighbors. Simple, except the guy next door is single, handsome, and not inclined to close his blinds while naked. When her car dies, Conn takes "being neighborly" to a new level by offering a ride to her long-distance destination. Nia has resisted his looks and charm for months. Surely she can handle a few hours in

So, this was a frustrating and annoying read for me. I spent most of the time raging and wanting to throw my iPad. If you saw my status updates, you will not be surprised by my review. I can’t stand push/pull romances. I knew that was going to be an issue going into this but I thought how bad can it be? Pretty freaking bad…

Conn was a great hero and I liked him a lot. He was the one chasing and I do mean all the chasing, all the time. I. CO

Conn and Nia are neighbours. Having had a bad relationship in the past, Nia only has one rule; dont date neighbours.

I enjoyed most of this book. Conn was pretty much perfect; sweet, patient, charming. Yes, I was swooning over him. I liked their interactions together.

But... I had one problem. Nia. She started off the blushing heroine, didnt mind her at first. Then she continues to follow her silly rule and jumping to conclusions which in turn ruined the second half of the book.

5 Stars.

So those that know me know I have a massive soft spot for Karla Doyle's books. They tick all the boxes for me, and as such are my go-to treat of choice if I am in need of a pick-me-up or a little light relief.

Cup Of Sugar is no exception, once again Karla has managed to bring together a small cast of normal regular everyday characters (Conn Is a Carpenter and Nia a Restaurant manager) and turn them into people you would just love to have in your phone contacts.

Joan (official heroine hater)
Well....the heroine killed any enjoyment I may have had for this one. She "squeaked" (no, I'm not kidding), giggled, blushed and acted like an irrational nutcase throughout the entire book-her "rule" was pretty much utterly ridiculous. The hero couldn't even save this one for me either. He was okay, but I wasn't feeling the swoon and any guy that falls for a dingbat like this heroine looses all respect for me. Sorry, didn't work... ...more

As always another winner from Karla Doyle! I want a Conn!

Cup of Sugar was a light, fluffy read. I had high expectations based on the blurb, and a few friends have enjoyed other books from this author. Ms. Doyle is a new to me author, but the story of Nia and Conn didn’t reel me in like I had hoped it would.

Nia had a long history of choosing the wrong men. Every one of them seemed to have some lame complaint about her as a reason for breaking up. It seemed to have left such an impression on her that long after they’d come and gone, she turned into the

Having just come off a short reading spree in which the books dealt with very serious problems and/or had unhappy/unsettling endings, A Cup of Sugar was just what I needed to escape from the blanket of doom. A Cup of Sugar is light, sexy and fun.

Conn and Nia are neighbors. He’s been attracted to her for a long time, but even though she spies on him through her window, she won’t give him the time of day, because he’s a neighbor and if a relationship doesn’t work out, she’ll be stuck living next

Okay, so this was cute. After reading the blurb I thought Conn was going to be more of the self absorbed type. He is totally not. I found him to be funny and incredibly likable. Nia is funny in a shy way. So with these two the 14 hours of drive time turns into an adventure of personality.

They are funny, heartwarming and spastic. It’s a cute read with some sweet moments. The storyline is easy to slip in and out of and makes what I call a great “waiting room read”.

What can I say other that Karla is BRILLIANT!
I love every book she has written. Conn is a wonderful man. He waited a year for Nia because of her stupid rule. He never gave up on her and made her come out of her shell. This was a wonderful story and I can't wait to see how Sara handles Curtis. LOL

Burned by dating a neighbour & having to upheave her life. Strict NO dating neighbour policy was bourn. Especially the current neighbour who had a screaming match with his ex & a parade of women at his door. Things changed when he gave her a 6 hr lift to her parents through a snow storm.

Cute, sassy, tentative and a reminder of how to have fun.

I just love this author's books and every time a read a book of hers I think, 'why did I wait so long to read this book'.

Awesome story and awesome characters. Although Nia annoyed me a bit about her 'no dating the next door neighbor rule'. But all in all a awesome read.

This adorably sweet, sexy story is about neighbors, Nia and Conn, who get to know each other better during a road trip.  Nia has managed to avoid the sexy beast that is Conn for several months.  That's until one night during a snowstorm when she's trying to get to her parents house.  Conn offers to take Nia, she reluctantly agrees and things change drastically for the two of them.

Cup of Sugar is my first Karla Doyle book.  If all her books are this cute, this sweet, this funny, and this

Karla Doyle is rapidly becoming one of my go-to comfort read authors, and CUP OF SUGAR is yet another reason why. Although she doesn’t make light of the real concerns and problems that her characters might have on the way to their happy ending, she also doesn’t turn them into anything too overwrought or super-angsty just to get “all the feels” from readers. Her deft hand is what made CUP OF SUGAR such a

Rules are meant to be broken and if he was my neighbor, I would break them all… I just adored this book. I only wish I had a neighbor like Conn… Alas, my reality is not as fortunate. But this book just made me happy.

Nia has spent the last eight months avoiding her neighbor. She is never going to make that mistake again. She owns this house and nothing is going to make her run from it, not even the super hot neighbor. She will be content to be alone forever with her picture perfect view. She wil

Full review when I've slept and my brain is functioning again.

Alright, it's the next morning. I'm not sure my brain is functioning 100%, but I'm going to try.

Conn? Holy crap. The patience of a saint, the body of a God. What more can you ask for? Every move he made was a plus in my book, and I could read about him forever and a day, and then some more...maybe if I read about him enough he'll manifest? (P.S. I'm choosy about my b

Romance, humor and an adorable dog - do you need much more to have a good story? This book is a deep comedic romance, full of holiday fun, a cute dog, and a couple who both have traumatic pasts.

Nia is a typical girly-girl, complete with emotional baggage and a love of all things pink. She's been hurt in her past, and hasn't been able to heal - she simply puts up walls as a defense to future pain and humiliation. At the moment, she is intensely hesitant of getting friendly with her incredibly at

Having a cute neighbor is anything but awesome, especially if your Nia

Nia has one rule she lives by... Never date your neighbor. Having already went down that path once before, she'll never find herself in that situation again. But having Conn as her neighbor will have her thinking about saying screw that rule.

Nia has watched Conn from afar. It's not like she can't. He keeps his bathroom widow wide open and she just so happens can't look away. Conn has watched her too. They both have been eyin

Sweeter than the title implies and steamy as a perfect latte

This is a romance about persistence. Conn likes Nia, and he wants to date her. When they interact, they have great chemistry, but she keeps him at an arm’s length because of her no-dating-neighbors rule. Conn gets his foot in the door with Nia when her car won’t start and she needs a ride to her family’s low-key New Year’s celebration. He is all too happy to offer the needed ride, even though it’s five hours one-way…in the snow.

Cup of Sugar is a sweet, fun, quick read by Karla Doyle. The synopsis intrigued me and I wanted to get to know these characters better. I am so glad I did because this book left me with the warm fuzzy feeling you get after reading a book like this. I love when a book does that.

Nia is your typical shy, yet sweet girl. She has been hurt in the past and because of that she makes a rule that she never intends to break; don't date the neighbor. I loved getting to know all about Nia and how Karla slow

Conn has always fancied his cute, sexy, innocent but very shy neighbour Nia and when the opportunity arises for him to spend hours with her in a car he jumps at the chance, so along with his adorable dog Zeus, him and Nia are forced to spend time together which in the end leads to a steamy night in a motel along with Conn meeting the family. The question is can Conn convince his shy neighbour (who has a rule about not dating men who live close to her) that they deserve more than just one night t ...more

I absolutely loved this book! Cup of Sugar was a fun, quick read that kinda put me a in a good mode. It wasn't anything over the top and I think it was a good read for a Friday night curled up on my couch! And I am a sucker for a love story.

Nia is a single, independent, women who might even be described as a loner. She likes her life that way. Nia works that is all she pretty much does. She is not really interested in dating or friends. She likes her simple life.

Cup of Sugar is exactly as the title indicates. It is a sweet cup of love. I enjoyed this book and it’s characters. The story is short and super sexy. Conn was a romantic hunk on a stick. Nia was a complex woman with a bad relationship history. Boy did she dish out the angst. Hot and cold was her MO but when this couple was on… steam up the kindle screen. We all have some sort of neighbors around us where we live. Sometimes they are the neighbors from H*LL... sometimes they become our best friends, and sometimes we try to stay our of their way so we will not become involved with them.

This last choice is the theme of our book. Nia has had a bad run of neighbors, falling in love with the neighbor, and then having to move across town to avoid this neighbor. She has therefore developed a hard fast rule. NO DATING OR GETTING INVOLVED WITH THE NEIGHBOR

Not exactly 3.5 stars, but not quite 4 either.. So, somewhere in between that.

Overall this was a cute story. It had a few sexy moments, the occasional laugh, and bit of jumping to conclusions.

I actually ended up really liking Conn. He was not at all what I had expected. Sweet, charming but determined to get Nia. He wasn't a jerk about it which was refreshing. I admired his patience when it came to Nia, because boy was she a handful.

Nia's "no dating the neighbor" rule was a bit over the top if

Cup of Sugar by Karla Doyle was a fast and fluffy romance with bits of steam thrown in. The storyline was predictable, but quite entertaining nonetheless.

I liked Conn's character; he was the nice and friendly guy next door. I thought he was too good for Nia in my opinion. It was harder for me to like Nia's character. She was just so indecisive about her feelings towards Conn that I just wanted to scream at her to make up her damn mind. Her actions just didn't sit well with me. First she was hes
