The Long Journey Home

Rate this book
When we take the time to listen to another's story, we hear their truth. A truth, which has the power to change lives. The story becomes the call to every human being who has been given the privilege to show up in this world, to take action within their lives. It is also a reminder, to fall over, but to never ever deny yourself the ability to bounce back. Your story will be your greatest gift to the world, it is YOUR story, filled with every single part of your souls journey as a human being.

This book is my story. It has been hiding inside of me for many years and finally the tight feeling in my throat I get every time I think of writing it, reminds me that it is time to release my fear and respond to my next adventure. I wrote it initially to share with my Alice, to help her understand that when Life hands you juicy lemons, the ability to bounce back lies within you and only you. I want Alice to know, that nobody has the right to keep you small or to affect the way you live your life. I want her to stand in front of the mirror and know with absolute certainty who is looking back at her. I want her to see strength in her body and in her mind, I want her to trust her voice and use it with confidence and conviction. I want her to know that when she is knocked down, she has everything inside of her to lift herself back up. But ultimately I want her to understand that kindness matters above anything else. A kind word, a genuine smile, a gesture from the heart, they all have the ability to make this world a better place.
As I have written this book, it has become apparent to me that the very same words I want to share with my daughter, may resonate with you. I hope amongst the following chapters you will find your own joy and the courage to follow the path that is destined to be yours and when you need to find the strength to bounce back, you only need look inside of yourself.

About the author

Effie Moss

Effie Moss was born on a cold January morning, at least that’s how the story is told! A self-proclaimed multi-passionate entrepreneur and a small business cheerleader. Her first “real” business journey started in 2012. An adventure which took her on a path to Dragons Den in 2014, watched by 12 million people. Fast forward to 2020, she now runs 2 businesses, including The Kindness Company and is the author of The Long Journey Home.

The Long Journey Home was originally written to share with her little girl, to show her that when life hands you lemons, you have everything you need inside of you to bounce back, however as she wrote the story, Effie realised that there may be others in the world who need the story that she has to share. A story filled with stunning highs and staggering lows, this is a real life human story and how the path from darkness to light can often help us to find our very best selves.

I was kindly #gifted The Long Journey Home by Effie Moss back last month. The only biographies or memoirs I’ve read are really those of big celebrities, or people I already knew quite a bit about. But when I starting speaking to Effie, she was just so lovely and the fact that she wrote this book for her daughter made me smile, so I thought I’d give it a go!

I didn’t realise this at the time, but Effie was actually on Dragon’s Den, and I LOVE Dragon’s Den, so that was such a lovely surprise! This book describes Effie’s journey after accepting an offer from a Dragon for her business, not just the highs, but the lows that came with it. I found this quite interesting because I’ve never really thought about what happens to a person and their business once they’ve had their offer accepted. Reading Effie’s journey shows that although, yes, this gave her such a fantastic opportunity, it really isn’t the be all and end all. I love that although this business was her dream, she acknowledged and accepted that its ok for your dream to change.

Although this book talks about Effie’s business journey, it also talks about her own personal journey. I found that some things she had written were quite profound, and if you are in doubt of yourself in anyway, I that these words would help. Her words show how although it’s hard, moving on from past woes and or bad times will be worth it.

This was so lovely to read, and as I’ve said, quite profound in places. Thank you so much Effie for kindly gifting me your book for an honest review. 💖

Highly recommend The Long Journey Home as an inspirational and honest account. If you have embarked on your own entrepreneurial journey, or considered a career away from the 9-5 this book will resonate, as it did with me. Effie Moss' experience of creating and nurturing a business, with many thousands of devoted customers and a thriving community, only to lose it is a tale of the strength of the human spirit.

Ultimately (no spoilers!) this is what the book sings loud and clear, the power of the human spirit and the journey to find one's true self.

Great read and left me with much to ponder myself.

I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. It is a very short book, but a great book about overcoming trying times in our lives and how to keep on going to achieve everything you want. Would be a great book for anyone to read that is needing a little inspiration. I think this book would also be good for teenagers to read, to help them understand that things don't always turn out how you hoped, but that doesn't mean you were a failure, keep on going.

I received a Kindle copy via Goodreads giveaway!

This was a great source of inspiration to read - great memoir about the satisfaction of running your own business and all of the struggles that come with it. Owning my own business is definitely a dream of mine!

I won this book though a goodreads giveaway and am thankful to the author for sharing her story. I feel like this book can have a great impact on someone who is at a certain point in their life. I felt like even though I had quite a few similarities with the author that the book did not impact me as much as it would have if I had read it at a different point in my life. I wish the author the best on her journey and like her am hopeful that her story can bring positive movement in people's lives. Thank you!!

This book really resonated with me, especially in the way Effie gives her story to her daughter to learn from and influence her own little life. Effie has also inspired me to continue to share my story. Our stories are important, because we are important, without our stories, we wouldn't exist.⁣

Effie has shown through her writing to never lose hope completely. She encompasses the true vision of kindness in this book, and that's needed and expressed now more then ever.⁣
