Taming the Dragon #1

Dragon His Heels

Rate this book
Gabriel Wilde is a reluctant dragon leader and now, a reluctant dad. Since he doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing, he enlists the aid of his trustworthy (and admittedly hot) PR manager, Talia Tatsuya.

Which is all find and dandy until his dragon decides she’s their fated mate.

Damn it, Gabe doesn't want one of those, either.

DNF at 4%. He’s a manchild who’s doesn’t want to take responsibility, is a manwhore who has slept with absolutely everyone, and is asking his PR manager to raise his child.

Add to that, the PR manager (heroine) just called this poor little girl “illegitimate” in front of her face. First of all, not cool to do that to a child. Second of all, who thinks a child can be illegitimate in this day and age!?

Not worth reading if this is the setup.

Well that was a ride!!

For about 120 pages we have so much happen. Both main characters go through life changing moments, action never stops with them two getting it on.

A few things, would have liked more details in the spicy scenes. He was a bit of a man child at the start. She lied about something very serious.

Shapeshifting dragons, fated mates, illegitimate children, and internal dragon voices - this one had an interesting mix of story even though it was a quick read.
I didn't love the romance - it felt quick and sudden but then just explained by fated mates. I also found the internal dialogue with the internal "dragon" just odd. The little girl was cute and I thought that part of the plot was interesting. Meh, this one was just okay.

Instead of a dragon leader he looks and acts like a surfer dude, but in there is a real reeve, Talia just needs to bring it out.

Talia has been Gabe's PR manager for 5 years and she's done everything to bring out the best in him and nothing has worked, but maybe being a father will help. Little did she know that it would come back to bite her in the cush literally.

Gabe didn't want to be reeve, he didn't even want to have a mate, that's why he bedded a different chick everyday. Besides he had Talia to fix things for him and show him how to be a good reeve..Now she has brought a tiny bit of trouble to his door and she will have to move in to his home to deal with it. Little does he know that this will all back fire on him and what he didn't want at one time is rearing it's head at him now.

What a fun read, I loved their no-sex, sex!

Just didn’t do it for me.
Lies and deceit are not the way to live your life and especially not what you perpetrate on someone else.
No matter how good the reason, screwing with someone else's life is just wrong.
The ending was just too silly for my liking.

I would have loved this book to have been longer. I really enjoyed the concept of the book but with it being the first in a series I needed more backstory and depth to help gain an understanding of the world that's been created. I felt there were elements in the book that I was missing because of this as if there had been previous books within the series that I should have read first.

That being said I loved Gabe and Talia and the way their relationship worked. They are completely opposite characters who work so well together. Better together than apart. Gabe is very chilled and relaxed, loving the single bachelor life that he is currently living, even with the added responsibility of being reeve. Whereas Talia always needs to carry out damage control on everything Gabe leaves behind in his wake. She is controlled and determined, putting up with Gabe's rubbish and making sure that she gives as good as she gets.

I need more depth to these characters and I think this good have been achieved if the book was bigger because the story is already intriguing. The world that Tami is trying to create needed to be more than 150 pages because of how intricate it is.

He's the reluctant leader who has someone to manage his life. Then one day he finds out he's a dad to a 5yr old oh and the curse that says his clan can't have fated mates well not true it seems at least for him. This is a fun story, with a bunch of surprises which always makes a story even better. It has lots of heat and some giggles and a couple who are meant to be together! Love dragons then this is a must read!

Gabe is the reeve of his group of dragons. Something that he’s not happy about. He’s even less happy when his PR manager brings him a little girl and claims she’s Gabe’s daughter. He’s completely stunned to realise that his PR manager is his fated mate. Talia’s job basically consists of managing Gabe’s life. Now that she’s spending so much time with the man, things are getting strange.

I couldn’t really get into this book. It’s not awful, but I struggled to care about the characters. Gabe is quite an unattractive character and Talia isn’t much better. In fact, Talia’s behaviour is pretty poor. It’s difficult to root for a couple when you don’t like either of them.

What an exceptional story this was to read; I was totally enthralled by it. Intriguing, with lots of twists and turns, it was a pleasure to see how, after five years, Talia finally achieves her goal in life, by making Gabe into the Reeve he is meant to be; but at what cost. I really enjoyed this book and would certainly have no hesitation in recommending it.

Jasmine is in trouble and calls on her sister, Talia, for help. A plan begins to form in Talia’s mind, but will she be able to carry it through. For the past five years Talia has been Gabe’s PR Manager, but he needs something to ground him; he is losing himself, denying not only his own possibilities, but his future. Talia has always sensed there is more to Gabe than he lets anyone see and she is determined to prove he is worthy of being the Zilarra Dragon Colony’s Reeve. That is why the Elders chose Gabe; they saw something in him that marked him as a Leader. It is Talia’s job to guide him, but he is too busy denying his calling. What better way can there be than forcing him to take responsibility for raising 5-year old Ruby, who Talia convinces him is his daughter, even though she doesn’t resemble him in the least. Gabe doesn’t want a mate, but Ruby could be his heir. Talia agrees to move in with Gabe, to help raise Ruby, but soon realizes that this may be her most difficult project to date. Gabe is not even attracted to Talia; half the time he didn’t even like her, but she was always the voice of reason, being too intuitive sometimes. Gabe didn’t want to be good; he wanted to do just as he liked. It is when the two begin talking telepathically in dragon form, that Gabe suddenly realizes that against all the odds Talia is his Fated Mate, but his abandonment issues will not let him complete their bond. In just three short days, since Talia had rescued Ruby from the Rojo Dragons, her life has become almost wholly unrecognizable. Gabe grows to love Ruby, but she is not really his biological daughter and Jasmine’s sudden return to the colony brings with it unexpected consequences. What will Gabe do when Ruby’s real father comes looking for her and tries to claim her? Gabe finally becomes the Reeve he is meant to be, but Talia has lied to him; how can he ever trust her again. And what does the sudden appearance of Gabe’s father mean after 30 long years, and how will Gabe react to what he has to say? A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my honest opinion.

The book started off strong, we have the grumpy hero and his take no nonsense PR manager who constantly bump heads. Gabriel hates his job as leader and Talia is always cleaning up his “messes” until one day little Ruby shows up and changes the game for them all.

I really wanted to like this book, but like I said it started off strong and then it just ended up all over the place and had some plot holes. You mean to tell me in 5 years Talia and Gabriel never shifted in front or near each other? When Talia shifts to entertain Ruby while Gabriel was already shifted that’s when HE realizes they are fated mates; Talia stayed unaware for 90% of the book which is surprising because it’s stated she’s very smart and knows their dragon history.

Gabriel basically states his grumpy immature self for the whole the whole book, but he did mature in terms of being a dad for Ruby. Gabriel was an orphan and raised by the clan and never knew his parents so he wanted to do better for Ruby. However, Gabriel knows that Talia is his fated mate and refuses to acknowledge it or tell her BUT he will continue to have all the sex without penetration he can get from Talia. Now Talia isn’t innocent either she knew Ruby wasn’t his daughter and she never disclosed that Ruby’s mother was her younger sister.

So how is all the duplicity handled? Gabriel is attacked by Ruby’s clan, aka her bio dad, and Talia goes to help him and is badly injured. Gabriel freaks out and kicks all the bad dragons’ asses and runs to Talia, once he confirms she is NOT dead… he walks away. The truth of Ruby was revealed and Talia was considered the bad guy by Gabriel and their clan. But Gabriel decides he can’t handle being away from her since she’s his mate and forgives her. We really get no apology for all the lying he did about the mating.

Also, we get some story line thrown in about the clan’s mate curse, but plot twist is Gabriel isn’t from this clan, he’s actually from Ruby’s clan. Like how did no one know that? And if they did, why didn’t they tell him about his parents?

Apparently the curse will be handled in the next book.

Gabe is the leader of the Zilarra Dragon Colony except he doesn’t want any responsibility. He likes his life just fine. Partying, drinking womanizing and he has Talia his PR Manager to fix everything and to keep him somewhat respectable. Talia is his fixer. He would be lost without her.
Then one day Talia presents him with the result of one of his partying one-night stands in the form a beautiful five-year-old child named Ruby. He looks at Ruby and he knows he has to do the right thing.

How is he going to care for a child? He knows nothing about families and children. Oh, but there is the capable and beautiful Talia, she knows everything. No, he can’t think of Talia as beautiful, he can’t be attracted to Talia, she is his rock. She must move in with him and help him care for Ruby. Talia looks lovely in his home. She is starting to look like she belongs in the mansion with Gabe and Ruby.

What are unfamiliar dragons doing at this front door? They do not belong to his colony. They want Ruby, she is his. Ruby becomes everything he did not know he needed in his life. He starts to explore his feeling for Talia. But wait there is something else going on here. Ruby’s mom comes to the mansion.

There is a mystery involving Ruby, Ruby’s mom and Talia. Did Talia lie to Gabe? Will the decades long curse be broken? Will Talia regain Gabe’s trust? Can Gabe give up his wild life style?

This was a FUN and FAST read. I could not put it down. I want to know more about the Dragon colonies.

I Love Tami Lund Books. OVER 18 READING

Gabe is the head of the dragons and Talia is in charge of making him look better when he messes up but she also is determined to make him into the leader she knows he can be. Talks gets a call and rushes to find a woman who left the clan six years ago. She finds her in the floor unconscious from drugs and a small five year old girl trying to wake her. She put her drug rehab center and takes the child to her boss and clan leader Gabe telling him the child is his. Knowing he can't care for her because he doesn't know how he insists Talia move in to. Ruby is a sweet child and Talia gets her clothes and they start her to school. Gabe and Talia learn to care for and love Ruby very much until the mother shows up and the stories all start to unravel. Who is really Ruby's father? Why is Talia making the choices that she is? Why are they cursed to not having true mates anymore? Can Gabe keep and protect his daughter? When Gabe starts thinking he might have found what no dragon in his clan has found in almost thirty years... a true mate? Gabe had even lost his parents at the time the curse started because all true mate bonds broke at that time and because of that he didn't want to ever find a mate of any kind especially never a true mate. But what if he could find a way to break the curse as some begin to hope? This book has so many good stories going on at the same time and they touch each other many times. I really would have loved for it to continue a little or a lot further.

A VIP single ready to mingle for one night every night with different women is about to have a landfill of good seeds to allow him growth. This growth will spurt some responsibilities, a good head over his shoulders, and a sense of belonging. However, there are lies and truths with the best of intentions from his PR person, Talia. Especially, when all of the sudden, Gabe becomes a father to a five-year-old.
Talia did what she thought was the most prudent thing to ensure her niece’s safety and love. However, her plan will go way-wire when she suddenly have to play mother and live in the house of the man she works for.
For the first time in five years these two known each other, their dragons meet and fly together. And something deeper start to unveil in front of them, and it’s not just lust nor is it just mating bond either. The Pandora box is about to be opened, and oh well — just watch out for the 180° from the non-commitment guy not in search for a mate. And yeah, this review seems to be all over the place, no grammar review much less searching for errors. I’m trusting my untrustworthy autocorrect. So mote it be!!!

And yay, a dragon story. Real dragons flying. Loved it. Glad it was a full blown book for that matter, I’d have been crying.

Gabe is the reluctant leader of his dragon clan and Talia his long suffering PR manager is constantly sorting out his messes. However this latest one results in her introducing him to his daughter and telling him he has got to finally grow up - however it backfires on her slightly when he insists she has to move in with him and help him with this new job he has. However it gets complicated when he seems to break or not be limited by an old curse and discovers that Talia is his fated mate - something he has no intention of acting upon - if only he can control himself.

This is a nice short read but is packed full of drama and emotion as Gabe and Talia cope with the events that occur after she brings home his daughter, I loved the way the story of the fated mates and the daughter were seamlessly sewn together into a story that contained passion, drama, danger and lots of emotion. The story was sensitively told even though it correctly described the internal fight Gabe was having with his dragon over the fated mate issue. A great read that I really enjoyed.

Passable read

Dragon His Heels is the first in the Taming The Dragon series.

I enjoyed the story and getting to know the characters.

Gabe is a reluctant reeve, or leader. He has a PR manager to help tidy up his image, but is reluctant to listen her until he finds out he’s a father to a five year old.

Talia was hired as Gabe’s PR manager. They’ve both kept a professional distance, though she’s always seen through his playboy ways to the hurt man inside.

As far as paranormal romance goes, this book has all the elements. It’s an enjoyable book to read and keeps the reader engaged. Unfortunately, it wasn’t one of my favourites. Not the author’s fault. The characters were likeable and funny in places. It’s hard to point out why I feel this way. I just found this book a bit same-y to other stories I’ve read without something to give it a unique feeling. Other readers will probably have a different perspective, so I’m going to advise that you don’t take my word for it, read this book and make up your own mind.

I thought I would hate this book or at least DNF it because I’ve never been one for stories where kids are involved. It kills my romance vibe. Surprise surprise, this one had me rather hooked. Gabriel is definitely not the kind of guy that wants more responsibility than he already has and comes off as a playboy.

The rules of the clan are set out and the curse defined. I enjoyed how the author gave information without it feeling forced. Gabriel broke his mold and the questions at the end made me want to continue the series as pieces were revealed. I do wonder what could have been possible if those pieces had been revealed earlier in the story, though I see no issue with the pace as it was.

I was happy with the overall story and the HEA ending. Considering those unexpected facts makes me willing to read more shifter novels where there’s a father situation. Thanks to Ms. Lund for helping open my mind.

This book had all the ingredients for an out of this world recipe but it tanked horribly. Started of all with a bad boy gets redemption vibe which quickly deteriorated.

This book’s plot is shocking. Talia brings home a child claiming it’s Gabes and he quickly believes it because of the source. Who does that?!

1) Talia lied about the child being Gabes from the very start. What kind of a messed up person lies to someone AND the child about their paternity?! 🤢
2) The child was her sister’s and as worried as she was, she could have taken the child herself without the lie??
3) Gabe was lying about not having condoms to avoid them having intercourse in case it sealed their fate, yet, he was well known man whore. Talia believed his excuses each time. Dumb does not cover it.

These are just a few highlights of what was wrong but I won’t award anymore energy to it. I wish I hadn’t picked this book up!

Very good

Gabe is the reeve of his dragon clan. He didn't want it but he's stuck with it. He is a manwhore and doesn't plan to ever settle down. There was a curse put on their clan and no one in thirty some years has found their true mate.
Talia is the reeves public relations manager. She tries to keep Gabe in line but it's a tough job. She returns with a little girl and tells Gabe she is his daughter.
Gabe never flies with other dragons but while shifted, Talia shifted to show Ruby, Gabe's little girl, and all sorts of strange things start happening. He can hear Talia's voice in his head and he is so attracted to her, he must have her but he still doesn't want a mate. Just the fun stuff that goes with it.
I believe this is the my first time reading this author. Great story. I love when the dragon inside has a conversation with them. Little bit of mystery. Sexual situations.

Adorable

Gabe is the new reeve, a ruler of their dragon colony and Talia, his faithful PR manager, has always been there for him. So when she introduces him to his daughter he didn’t know he had, the only logical solution is to ask Talia to move in with him to raise the kid. Simple right? But when his dragon insists Talia is his fated mate, internal panic sets on him. He doesn’t want a mate. Does he?

I loved how adorable this story was! As a novella, it’s a short read but fun nonetheless. It doesn’t lack in the drama side either and the world-building was good, giving you what you needed to understand it and it didn’t steal anything from the plot.

I really like both Gabe and Talia, especially Gabe who is this fuckboy type that suddenly has to grow up. He really did step up to the plate and I liked seeing it.

Short, fun read. Gabriel is a yummy, if somewhat cranky, hero, and unwilling leader of his dragon shifter enclave. He and Talia, his PR manager, have been working together, without sparks, for five years, but then, Shazam! Sparks.

Leading to explicit not-quite sex, because it seems they are fated mates, and penetration would seal the deal. All complicated by Gabriel's five year old surprise daughter being on scene.

Disclaimer: I'm acquainted with the author via social media. Second disclaimer: I know someone who actually DID get covered with marshmallow fluff - but for a photo session, not for sexytimes. Can confirm, it's VERY sticky.

I'm going to jump into the others in this series, but this works fine as a stand-alone.

What a great beginning!
I truly enjoyed this story. I wasn't too sure about Gabe when it first started, I mean he seemed like a good guy just a lost soul, but the fact that Talia seemed to be harboring love for him seemed a little off. The further I read in the story the more I wanted to see them both overcome and succeed. Add in an adorable little girl and a nasty curse and I was all in. This book is an excellent read from beginning to end and I would recommend it to everyone. I hope we do not have to wait long to see what will happen with the rest of the dragons and if the curse can be lifted.

Simple fun and a happy ending

At first, I wanted to delete my Kindle copy because there was nothing likable or interesting about the self-absorbed, irresponsible leader of the dragon clan, Gabe. I wasn't able to delete the book, so I ready a different book.

I then tried this book again and became engaged when Ruby, the five-year-old daughter he didn't know he had, was brought to Gabe to raise. He feels unprepared and begs/demands his PR manager, Taliah, to move in with him to help him raise Ruby.

Ruby and Gabe's interactions are beautifully realistic and interesting. Gabe and Taliah's interactions are told from their POVs, and they develop a new relationship.

OK, I 100% chose this based on the title. It's a bit of fluff, short, just under 200 pages, and silly, but an easy read nonetheless.

Gabe is a commitment-phobe. The reluctant leader of his band of dragons. Talia has been his PR manager for the five years he's been the Reeve. She's been keeping him (more or less) out of too much trouble, despite his penchant for one-night stands and irresponsible behaviour.

This is a boss-assistant trope with reluctant fated-mates / insta-lust and a variation on the single-dad-needs-a-woman-to-help with the kid storyline.

This book contains descriptive love scenes.

Being the reluctant leader of his dragon clan, Gabe is faced with a new altercation. A daughter. He enlists his trusted PR manager to help with the situation since he know nothing about family after being abandoned as a child.

And all is well, until his dragon decides Talia is their fated mate.

Hotness ensues. Fire crackling hotness.

I love this story. It's fun, and hot, as usual with Tami Lund's stories. I haven't been able to put it down since I started reading it.

I received an advanced reading copy in exchange for my honest review.

Gaberiel isn't you typical Alpha dragon. He never wanted to be the clan leader and he certainly wasn't planning on being a father. When his PR manager brings him a daughter he never knew about, he asks her to move in and help him with the new situation. He may not have wanted a child, but he doesn't plan to fail her and knows he will need help! Then suddenly his dragon has decided it's found his mate, and Gabe's trying so hard to fight it. Fate is never wrong, but sometimes life throws trouble in the way.
I really enjoyed reading about Gabe, Ruby and Talia. Ruby is just adorable!

I enjoyed this book. What's not to like when Dragon shifters are involved. I loved watching playboy never settle down Gabe find himself on a new path. Once he finds out a little girl is now his responsibility big changes are coming in his life. Though it's not an easy road you can see the little subtle changes in him. One of my favorite scenes that sticks out to me is Ruby's reaction of wonder to Talia and Gabe in dragon form. This book takes a few unexpected twists and turns, but it's so engaging. They story just sucked me right in. It's one that's well balanced with story, heat, and heart.

This is the first book in the Taming the Dragon series by Tami Lund. Gabriel Wilde is a dragon shifter and leader of his clan. He is unprepared when he discovers he is a father. Talia Tatsuya is his smart, capable PR manager, who is suppose to make him look better with his responsibilities. A woman who left the clan years ago is found unconscious from an overdose with a five-year old child in tow claiming the child is Gabe's. Gabe has Talia move in with him to help him care for his child Ruby. As Gabe and Talia raise Ruby together, sparks start to fly and and Gabe must confront his fears, responsibilities. This paranormal romance is filled with witty banter, sizzling chemistry, and emotional depth as Gabe tries to tame his inner dragon and the chaos around him. I really enjoyed amazing paranormal romantic fantasy novel
