Wow, power exchange in historical setting, with interesting couple. He's cares for his brother and those who work for him. When he realises that his new farrier is female, he's intrigued. She's the top he needs to take control of him, in private. It was very sweet but there were hints of a deeper plot some of story lost me. I did liked their dynamic, a lot. ...more

Intriguing characters and settings - 1920s Birmingham with a whiff of Peaky Blinders and a story that skirts erotic romance territory (I'd label this hot - not E/R, YMMV). I found the writing a bit disjointed at times and feel like a few more chapters inserted to smooth out the timeline and beef up the word count would have better served the story. OK, not great, but enough on the page for me to want to pick up the next novella in the series featuring older brother Sidney. ...more

This is a new-to-me author whose book I picked up after coming across some promo on Booktwitter.

On the plus side, the writing was pretty solid. It had enough of a historical cadence to feel immersive and the worldbuilding worked too.

I also liked Brighid and Isaiah both by themselves and as a couple. NGL, getting a handle on Isaiah-as-a-protagonist was tricky at times (the character came across a little unsure of himself). Though it could be argued that the author used that uncertainty to build

Hello, hello my dears!

Depending on where you're coming from, you might or might not know I decided to read this book because I was so kindly granted with an ARC for book 2, Trouble & Strife (review here ! ).

As I said in that review, I didn't want to half-ass things and decided to read this book first, in case the books could not have been read as standalone (verdict: here ) (cheeky promo, but what can I say)

This book was definitely a breath of fresh air.

The casual queerness and openness of t
This books was very kindly given to me as an ARC. My little anxiety ass immediately worried that I would hate the book and hurt the author's feelings. But luckily this was a joy to read!

Brighid has (mostly) left her life as a pickpocket behind. For years now she's been the farrier Arthur Bell, fixing horseshoes and smithing.
Getting the hots for the new employee is really not what Isaiah needs right now. Gangs are moving in on his territory and there's a racetrack full of horses to take c
This is the first time I did an advance reader copy. I would totally recommend this book. I think another person could really enjoy it in many different ways: it's quite sexy/romantic; there is a strong female AND male lead ; the historical setting in Birmingham is really cool; the characters are compelling and aren't some hollow shell of a person; the story is tightly AND professionally written (which for me is what takes any book and brings it to another level); I think many people could fall ...more

I liked the story and the setting, but I didn't enjoy the writing. It consists of fragments that would fit together better if there was some padding in between. I feel as if I missed a lot of the story. I know this is a novella but it didn't work well for me as one. ...more

This was a very interesting and well written story. Hammer and Tongs is a short novella length book which is great if you are looking for a quick read. I'm always looking for new and diverse ideas and characters in romance and Hammer and Tongs definitely provides that. There are a lot of things that are unique and wonderful about this book. First off, it's a historical but it's a time frame that we don't often see in romances, set in the Britian in the 1920s with a male main character who is a v ...more

Wow okay, so... yeah. I had no idea what I was getting into with this one. It was really short, to the point where I think it affected the book and the story. I feel like we just get to see random scenes from an overall story. There was an interesting plot that we never got to see and I would've appreciated getting to know the side characters in more depth. This had an interesting setting and I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two love interests but none of it was explored bec

Lara Kinsey does an excellent job melding romance and history into a story about two people who are figuring out their wants and needs in life. Her beautiful descriptions bring you right into England in the 1920s, drawing out sights and sounds. I felt truly immersed in a world I am unfamiliar with. I'm new to historical romance, but every word pulled me in. I was continually drawn closer to these two lives and how they intertwined. I would have enjoyed a slower burn in the development of the rom ...more

I asked "OK where's the pegging" and everyone seems to be like "Oh, it's there go find it" and so after google searching and going "This is femdom, I don't want femdom" then I found a Twitter saying "well here's pegging then!" and I have already gone through the whole of what, five books on it? And ok.

This is pegging -- GOOD pegging, not scary, I-need-all-the-power-and-you-need-all-the-punishment femdom action but well thought out, strong female meets understanding and overly stressed out man a

Very unique! It just went by a bit too fast. Great role reversal with the hero and heroine, nice Peaky Blinders vibe. :)

Good concept, but very rushed and clumsy.
Peaky Blinders but queer! Peaky Blinders is one of my favorite shows and when Lara Kinsey promoted this on twitter and when I saw this tweet I automatically downloaded it from Kindle Unlimited. And I really enjoyed it! Can't wait to read the next book. ...more
I loved the power exchange however, I was so confused during the sex scenes. I don't like the writing style at all. ...more

A wonderful little novella. The strength lies in the excellent writing, and the characters. Brighid and Isaiah are both delightful. I really love bisexual men and gentle femdoms so this is exactly my thing. I also really love working class historicals, with no aristocracy and this is perfect. The story moves quickly and is light on plot, as to be expected with a novella. The final conflict was a little clumsy (but I feel like I say this about nearly every romance novel?).
