Jason is an award-winning artist, designer, and creative director based in Brooklyn. After earning a BFA in graphic design from Brigham Young University, he moved to NYC to immerse himself into the life, color and magic of New York. He began his professional career working in the Creative Department of M·A·C Cosmetics, where he learned about the business of art and design, and developed his taste for spreading life and color into any and every project he could get his hands on.

Jason’s work explores the communication of human emotions using bright colors and even brighter messages. He works in both digital and traditional media, and while his work ranges from typography and illustration, to products and large scale murals, the immediately recognizable commonalities found in his work are his electric color palette and his positivity. Jason’s work has received global recognition including the Golden Novum Design Award and two CLIO Bronze medals and he has been featured on HGTV and the Discovery Channel. In 2018, Jason was named by BUMBLE as one of the 100 Most Inspiring New Yorkers, and his upbeat, colorful creations have found partnership with a range of brands such as Coach, Pepsi, Guess, XBOX and Maybelline.

Jason’s mission is to spread color and positivity across the globe. He breathes life into every project with an optimistic attitude, humility and confidence as he believes that kindness is the key to success. Jason’s brightly colored designs and positive words reflect his zeal for life, his quest for joy and his love of LOVE. Currently, Jason is working towards developing a three dimensional version of one of his favorite motifs... the heart.

Jason Naylor is a rad street artist. Live Life Colorfully is a gorgeous and bright collection of 99 ways to add more color to your life every day—like colorizing your wardrobe or walking in a rainbow (turn right when you spot something red, turn left when you spot something orange, etc.). This book is so fun and I’m obsessed.

My Recommendation: If you're ever unsure of a gift or want a talking piece for your coffee table, this is definitely a great option. The colorful artwork and fun ideas throughout are engaging for all ages and I found myself smiling the entire time I read it. Naylor definitely shares his underlying philosophy that you could really try and read more into if you want, or if you really want to you could rip out pages and play with them or give them to people, it really is a real-life choose your own adventure type book!

My Response: When the publicist reached out to me about this one, I wasn't sure if I wanted to accept it.* It's been a few years since I reviewed an interactive book like this and even though they're perennials on my top 10 viewed lists (oh heeeey Lee Crutchley and Sharon Jones . . . ), I always feel like they're cheating a little bit, but then again I spent most of last year flying through "trashy romance novels" so . . . yeah.

However, after checking out Naylor's Instagram and seeing how many of the bright pieces of art made me smile and honestly adoring his love for colorful socks, I said yes.

*I received a copy of Live Life Colorfully from the publicist in return for my honest opinion. No goods or money were exchanged.

This is a cute book, and I can see it appealing to teens and 20 somethings who are attracted to color and creativity. There are some uses of expletives, so keep that in mind if buying this as a gift. I can see teachers use parts of it to explore creativity with their students. However, for me, I didn't find it useful since I knew most of what was in this cute, colorful, and small book.

Like many Chronicle Books, this being from its imprint, Chronicle Prism, it's visually appealing.

Note: I won this from the publisher through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

Some fun fresh-feeling things, but a lot of the same old stuff you've heard before. The art is pretty awesome though.

Fun and inspiring

Love all the bright colors and positive inspiration. Not a very long book, but meant more for a visual pick-me-up and a source of creativity.
