Lowell Cohn is a Bay Area(San Francisco-Oakland-Marin County) sports writer. I have enjoyed his columns over the years. He always had great questions when he attended the 49ers post game press conferences which were televised. Lots of wonderful stories about the athletes that played in this region of the country.
I've always enjoyed reading Cohn's columns in the Chronicle and listening to him on the radio so this book was an enjoyable retirement gift. It's a series of essays, new and some old, on his interactions with the Bay Area's sports figures (and a few outsiders) and his feelings over-all about the place where sports sits in people's lives and the role that a columnist or beat writer fits in this. I can relate to Cohn's attitudes about games and athletes. I love sports but now that I'm older (and somewhat wiser) I know where the games and athletes fit in my life. An enjoyable read especially for the Bay Area sports fan.
