In the town of Yport, during a run along Europe’s tallest cliff, Jamal notices a red scarf hanging on a fence. Then he sees the woman, her dress torn, her back to the void, her eyes fixed on his own. Jamal holds the scarf out to her like a buoy.

A few seconds later, the stranger’s lifeless body is found lying on the icy pebbles of the empty beach below. Around her neck, the

Michel Bussi has a reputation for writing the most twisted of psychological thrillers, and this is certainly true of his latest offering, set in the coastal town of Yport in Normandy, France. It begins in 2014 where part of a cliff has collapsed revealing three male skeletons, each meeting their death at different times, and given the murders and rape of young women within the time frame, a connection between them appears to be clear, but what exactly? 5 months earlier, a young disabled Arab, Ja ...more

Hugely enjoyable and layered "whodunit" that has all the plot development and character build twinned with verve and twists one has come to expect from Michel Bussi.

The story focuses on Jamal, a warm-hearted young man whose life has been tough, and who comes across a distressed woman on a cliff. What happens next and what Jamal knows to have happened will be challenged leading him into a web of events that will turn his life upside down.

Never Forget is a clever story from a author who is a pleas

Never forget was an interesting read but it's not how I was expected. It was a slow read and it took me sometimes to get into the book because of the confusing storyline and yet it's still interesting.

Jamal is an amazing character. Jamal loves to run. He was out running when he saw the red scarf. He actually took it and when he turned around, he saw there was a woman standing at the edge of the cliff. He ran to help the woman but she already jump. Her body crashed on the beach with the red scarf

Excellent mystery. Two women are raped and killed on the Atlantic coast of France in 2004 and the murders remain unsolved. Ten years later, a young Arab paraolympian hopeful, with a prosthetic leg, is running along these same cliffs, when he sees a red Burberry silk scarf and a beautiful woman, who is disheveled contemplating suicide. He tries to calm her, but to no avail as she grabs the scarf and jumps to her death. The young man becomes the prime suspect, and he finds a woman to help him. Mea ...more

4 stars - catchy and well written!

I bought this book on a second-hand market and I realized at home that it has originally been written in French - I am fluent in French and I would have preferred to read this story in its original version, but nevertheless I really liked the writing style. The author has the talent to make me feel with his characters immediately from the start and the plot has been very catchy! I just couldn't stop wondering and the twists were really interesting. This book is crazy and far-fatched and full of stereotypes but is also fun, interesting and mysterious. One aspect of the story was so ridiculous that i actually rolled my eyes and almost abandoned the book.I'm glad I didn't because the last few chapters
reedemed this novel. They were mega twisted, dark and psychotic.I really don't know how this author's brain can work in such bizarre and scary way. This is the third book that I've read from him but definitely will read more if nothing for pure ent
This book really giving me too much wild guessing and gripping nervousness. A suspense thriller plot, my first of Michel Bussi that tells a story of Jamal Salaoui; a one-legged paralympian that caught up in an incident which led him to uncover a 10 years unsolved serial crime of raped and murder cases.

"For a long time, I was unlucky. Fortune never favoured me. I came to imagine life as a huge conspiracy."

I love Jamal that perhaps his anxiety towards the case making me rooting for him till the en

This was such a disappointing read. I like discovering new authors and this story promised so much but delivered so little that I will not be reading anything else from Mr Bussi.
The characters were shallow and slightly ridiculous. The plot was just crazy. Such a wasted opportunity.

Wow! This took me all round the houses and back again as I tried to get ahead of the game and figure it all out first. I failed, but I did have a cracking time trying!
Jamal is on holiday and out running when he sees a red scarf. He takes it and turns to see a woman on the cliff edge. She looks distressed so he races to try help her. He throws her the scarf to try and pull her back but she jumps. She land up on the beach, dead, but with the scarf wrapped round her neck. She's been strangled? It d

4 stars! This was a another wonderful book by Michel Bussi, that I thoroughly enjoyed reading.

Jamal has a dream - to run the toughest race in France with his prosthetic leg. When one morning during his training, he comes across a woman on the verge of committing suicide, he tries to save her by handing her a red scarf he found on the trail.

But the girl jumps off the cliff and when he reaches the beach where her body has fallen, there are two other witnesses who have seen the body but not the f

A fun read with an interesting story but too many problems for me in this book to really enjoy it.
I won't list them all but mainly I did not like the style (I read it in French). The narrator is talking to the reader, even using him/her as a witness and I find that annoying. It also makes the book uneven, when Jamal is telling the story, the tone is very casual, when it's the narrator it's more formal. I understand it might be done on purpose, but when I read, I like the book to be well written

I was enjoying the read until factually it became impossible to believe. I like my crime thrillers to have a semblance of verisimilitude, and this French tradition of 'mise an abyme' and Bussi's attempt at the psychological does not resonate here. Still, I give it a 2.5 as it still spurred me on to read till the end. ...more

What an amazing and twisted read, it keep me passing pages till the end!
I’ll try to make a review with no spoilers, but be advised that it will not be easy, there are so many twists and mysteries on this story that a little detail can spoil the full story!
This story is told by Jamal, a man who will try to save a woman from committing suicide but he ends up being the first suspect of killing her. Twisted? Oh yes, but so original plotted and with tricks to make the reader confuse of what to believ

I have been a huge fan of Michel Bussi’s work ever since I first read Black Water Lilies and it quickly became one of my favourite thrillers of all times - it has perhaps the best twist I’ve ever read!
I’ve also loved his other books and was really excited to read Never Forget.

However, quite quickly I realised there were a lot of typos and mistakes. This is a work in translation but there were a lot of words missed out altogether or sentences written incorrectly and I haven’t noticed this in any

Another page-turner from this author. Jamal, a young man, staying in a coastal Normandy town, witnesses a young girl throwing herself off the cliff. There are two witnesses on the beach when he arrives to join them, and the police are called and the girl appears to have been raped and beaten. The following day, no one else in the town seems to know about the tragedy, one of the witnesses has disappeared and the other claims not to have left her house in years. A young girl also staying in the to ...more

Never Forget, Michel Bussi. (2014) iBook.

I have to say, I have enjoyed many books by this good French author but this storyline I found confusing and challenging. Doesn’t mean it did not work but it was quite a long wait ! Quite an ending...
I actually don’t feel I can say much other than that as it would be a spoiler for sure!

A man running along a remote clifftop path on an icy-cold February morning.
A woman standing on the cliff's edge.
A red scarf on the ground between them.

Wow. Just wow. This book was amazing from start to finish. I’m a big fan of Bussi’s work, this is the 5th book of his that I’ve read - and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

From the beginning I was hooked and couldn’t put it down until I’d found out more, the plot was just THAT good (which is why I finished it within 2 days!). Bussi is beyond talented with his stories - the way he convinces you to believe something, and then totally contradicts it with an outcome you’d never thought of. Just when

An astonishingly clever and convoluted thriller. A book I had to ration myself on reading as I didn’t want it to finish too soon. Packed with details, red herrings and trickery this is a stunning achievement.

I liked it very much. The English translation is good. But at the end i was tired of the repitions. But all in all. It was a new taste of French thrillers, different from english thrillers i am used to.
I already bought his book After the Crash

I didn't like this book, and I'm not sure why exactly. I was looking for a plot twisty sort of thriller and this was supposed to be one. Maybe it was hard to read because I didn't like the main character/narrator. Anyway I had to force myself to finish it, just wasn't for me. ...more
