This sturdy little board book is literally a small child's first literary peek into farm life. Each double-page spread contains two foldable flaps, one nestled inside the other, and each one answering one of the two questions posed on the previous page by the farmer or in the narration. Young readers will encounter hens, cows, pigs, and sheep and being encouraged to greet them before reaching the book's final pages, which open up from four different pages into one that shows all the animals gathered together making their individual noises inside a barn. This book provides a basic introduction to the types of animals that are typically found on a farm and could prompt good conversations between adults and children about those animals' sounds and needs.

As we visit the farm, we can lift the flaps to discover what animals are hiding in the sheds. The sheep with her little lambs, the hen with her chicks, and the cow with her calves all greet us with animal sounds. At the end there is a large fold-out of all the animals together in the barn.

I love this cute book! My little niece is just learning all the farm animals, so I'm very excited to share this book with her.

The illustrations of the animals are all so cute! Every page is bright and fun, and there are little details in the background that make this book special. The farmer is a lady with overalls and an adorable straw hat.

The cover says "sturdy flaps", and that really is true. The pages and flaps are very thick and sturdy to withstand the destruction of little hands. The placement of the flaps is really clever and it's so much fun to explore the farm in this way.

I really liked this book. It's cute the hole in each flap to have another flap, even if that one feels a bit less sturdy. I also like the scaffolding of the question you can read on the previous page to prompt to the different small flaps.
