Sassy, lighthearted, and amusing!

The Heart of a Texas Cowboy is a compilation of two novels, Going Cowboy Crazy and Make Mine a Bad Boy.

Going Cowboy Crazy is a sweet, spirited tale that takes us into the life of the quiet, reserved, Faith Aldridge as she gets a little more than she bargained for when she heads west to find the twin sister she never knew she had in a town convinced she’s their homecoming queen finally returning home, and the local football hero turned coach, Slate Calhoun, is a little too sexy and hard to ignore.

Make Mine a Cowboy is a fun-loving, heartwarming tale that takes you back to Bramble, Texas and into the life of the feisty, Hope Scroggs as she struggles with the failure of her Hollywood career, a new twin sister who stole her high school sweetheart, and the realization that the annoying bad boy, biker turned custom motorcycle shop owner, Colt Lomax may actually own her heart.

The writing is playful and witty. The characters are quirky, spirited, and likeable. And the plots unfold nicely giving you a good dose of small-town West Texas charm, steamy tension, sizzling chemistry, humorous mishaps, tender moments, community, friendship, family, and love.

Overall, The Heart of a Texas Cowboy is a spicy, entertaining, enjoyable compilation by Lane that’s a great way to kick-start the Deep in the Heart of Texas series.

This two book compilation tells the story of twin sisters and there journey to find each other and their own HEA’s. I can imagine finding out as adult that you are are twin and meeting your doppelgänger would be a shock! Luckily for these two, they also find partners to ease them into this new reality. I enjoyed this first twins story more that the second because the heroine in the second grated on my nerves…

See below for my thoughts on booth books.

Going Cowboy Crazy
⭐⭐⭐⭐ /5

After leaning from her adoptive mother on her deathbed that she is in fact one of twins, Faith has found her way to the quirky town of Bramble Texas to find her long lost sister, Hope. She soon learns that Hope is in Hollywood, but Hopes old boyfriend, Slate is there to help her sort things out in the town that refuses to believe that she is Faith, not Hope before she gets back on the search…

I enjoyed seeing conservative Faith find her voice and new facets of her personality as she lets loose in Bramble with Slate. These two made a cute paring, even though Slate is the supposed sweetheart of her twin sister!

Without too many spoilers, this whirlwind romance hits the rocks when reality comes crashing back into town… some lies and old issues threaten to tear apart this new life Faith has created, unless she stops being meek and stands up for what and whom she wants. Faith manages to stay pretty positive and able to see the good in others throughout, even when she is dealt some nasty hands…

I loved Faith and Slate together. Their chemistry was electric from the beginning but they still had a sweet high school sweetheart vibe! This was a fun read!

Make Mine a Bad Boy
⭐⭐⭐ /5

Hope Scroggs has retuned to her hometown after failing at making it big in Hollywood. She is better after always being the big fish in the little pond and getting everything she wants. Reality has hit her pretty hard and she does not take it well.

Coincidentally her thorn in her side high school tormentor, Colt shows up around the same time. These two rub each other the wrong way until the sparks they create are too much to reign in! Soon we find out the Hope is unexpectedly pregnant with Colt’s baby. How are these two going to have a baby together when they can’t even be in a room together?!?

I liked bad boy Colt. He always feels like he is not enough for his home town of Bramble and definitely not enough for the unofficial queen of Bramble, Hope, but he is constantly proving his worth throughout this story.

I did not like Hope AT ALL. I didn’t like her from the time she showed up in the previous book and was a brat and tried to tear apart Faith and Slate. Often villain is redeemed in their story, but I felt like Hope was selfish and short sighted this entire story. Thankfully Colt and the rest of the Bramble crew made the book more palatable.

The Heart of a Texas Cowboy by Katie Lane was released January 12th, 2021.

Twin sisters. Two unsuspecting cowboys. A surprise pregnancy. Love is about to buck these men clear out of the saddle. Do the girls have what it takes to throw a rope around the hearts of the guys they want so they can keep them for good? Find out in Katie Lane’s juicy Western romance, The Heart of a Texas Cowboy.

I should start by telling you that this is two-in-one book, featuring novels that initially debuted in 2011, Going Cowboy Crazy and Make Mine a Bad Boy. And for the combined price, it serves as a great introduction to Lane’s work.

In the first book, Going Cowboy Crazy, you’ll meet Slate Calhoun. Once upon a time, he and Hope Scroggs had been a thing. And although they were together for more than a minute, she never told him that she has an identical twin sister named Faith. But by the time Slate discovers who the woman in his truck really is, it’s too late, he’s smitten, and that’s just the way Faith wants it.

In Make Mine a Bad Boy, the real Hope has tangled with another cowboy, bad boy Colt Lomax, a man who never lets himself get attached to anyone. After one rendezvous with Hope, he suddenly finds himself wanting a second helping from her buffet of love, even though she’s trying her best to resist that slow, sexy smile of his. But Cupid has a cruel sense of humor, and neither one will see his next arrow coming!

This is a series that is filled with likable characters, from the charming can’t-pin-me-down cowboys to the women who love them to the community that simply wants to play matchmaker. The scenarios that Lane puts these folks in ranges from just darn cute to outright hysterical, and I frequently found myself laughing so hard, people started to look at me funny in the break room.

While these books do touch on some serious topics, they are very lightly written, and provide the perfect escape for these pandemic times we find ourselves in. These are stories that are sure to do more than just make you smile, my guess is that you’ll be cracking up just like I did. Even so, the books come across with enough heart and compassion that they never feel contrived, but rather, are uplifting and fun.

If you’re looking for a new author to read and want stories that both entertain and make you forget your troubles for a few hours, Katie Lane is the gal to know. She’s a writer who happily dishes out humor by the spoonful, and will leave you begging for more, even if your sides are aching from laughter. Enjoy!

Going Cowboy Crazy by Katie Lane is a hilarious hot cowboy romance. It's fun, flirty, and full of action. Trouble comes to both protagonists. Faith's mom died telling her a secret. She has a twin sister. Now, Faith is wanting to find her twin. Faith tracks her twin down to a rural redneck town. Only everyone there thinks she's Hope.

Hope is her twin. A sister that is more outgoing, cussing, and takes no crap from anyone. Faith is more the safe, studious, and good daughter. However, rising to a challenge by a hot redneck leads her to more trouble than she ever expected. Slate has a lot on his plate. He's a coach of the football team and his new quarterback reminds him so much of himself at that age.

The kid is a handful. I liked the teenage boy. He was smarter than Slate and can throw a punch better than the grownups. Austin is charming, cocky, and a good kid trying to survive the hellhole his parents put him into...Austin likes Faith.

Faith is the cool adult who gets him. Unlike his coach, Slate. Then there's the town that thinks Faith is Hope and they're planning a wedding for the couple. Yet, Faith isn't who they think she is, only her birth mother recognizes her, and Slate is getting harder to not love so much. The characters are realistic, quirky, and charming. I could not get enough of this town full of crazy yet good people. I was rooting all the way for the heroes. Overall, this is one contemporary romance readers do not want to miss!

Make Mine a Bad Boy by Katie Lane is just as steamy as the previous story. This time, the other twin, Hope, gets her own story. She struggles with the fact that the one man she expected to set her life back to rights, is marrying her twin sister. A sister she knew nothing about until she comes back home with her tail between her legs. Then, there's the one night stand she had. A surprise comes along and so does the man she was spent time with for one night. Hope has to learn how to find herself and what she wants in life. There's a cowboy who can't get her out of his head and despite her pushing him away, can't let her go...

This story was hot, addictive, and charming. Katie Lane writes a fictional world in which her characters pull me in and I cant get enough of them. The ups and downs make the tale feel real. The cowboy has no idea what he's in for until it hits him hard. Hope is rough around the edges but her cowboy compliments her. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book.
