In addition to the age-gap problem at its heart, this book is just sort of slow and boring. It wants to be a super chaste and extremely gentle romance between a grown-ass man and a high school student, which sort of strikes me as grooming its young teen female audience into thinking this is a wonderful situation to aim for.
I'm done.
Update: Coincidentally I came across this article the morning after reading this book:
Women Who "Dated" Older Men As Teenagers And Realized They Were Actually Predators Are Sharing Their Stories, And They're Devastating https://www.buzzfeed.com/victoriavoul...
Momoka and Kuga continue to make silly, impulsive decisions that end up having no consequences. They're both sweet, good-natured people who never deliberately deceive people, and they mostly take the potential social implications of their relationship seriously, so this manga is nice and pleasant, low-impact reading.
The art seems a little better in this volume, less stiff at least, though still somewhat lacking in detail and (my perception) self-confidence. The relationship doesn't have a lot of detail, either, so my impression is of a shorthand version of a shoujo manga romance. Momoka says that she's come to know Kuga's hidden depths, and you kind of have to take her word for it.
With just one more volume to go, this one won't stretch out its welcome. It's a near-perfect three star in the sense of being fun enough to keep on with, but also being unlikely to make a lasting impression.
This was good but felt little odd in pacing. Things jumped around alot, months ahead. Maybe to address the age gap more, not too sure.
Either way the parts when they got to go on their date or at the match are still really cute and well done, and the last volume I guess is the last? So I assume something serious moving forward. Maybe a big time skip? Either way it's a cute series but doesn't stay as strong as it starts sadly.
This volume was super cute and it'd be even better if she wasn't a high school student dating a grown man. Honestly, why couldn't she have been aged up a little bit? Seriously, 1 or 2 extra years as a college student would have been fine!
I think too much emphasis has been placed on an "age gap" and not the fact that she was a minor when they first started seeing each other. Momoka is apparently eighteen now, which I'm not sure how that happened because we didn't see her celebrating any birthdays? But okay. I feel like the only way such a relationship can progress (if it even should) would be with constant adult supervision. The chapters where Kuga goes to sneak a peek at Momoka during her class trip (and it was ONLY to look at her because he's been touring so much that they haven't been able to spend time with each other) felt almost stalker-ish and the subsequent "secret date" felt...wrong. They really shouldn't be spending time alone together and the fact that her family was not-so-subtly giving them opportunities to be alone together (even if it's within the confines of the house!) was just.. like, what? Ma'am, you're supposed to be protecting your daughter, not exposing her to a predator.
This volume also tries to draw comparisons between Kuga's friend, Shoyu and his own girlfriend and the pitfalls of dating a celebrity and how the two ladies bond as friends. I think the author was trying to show Momoka having friends whom she can actually share about her relationship with, because it's not like she can speak about it with her own high school friends. But here's the thing. Shoyu and his girlfriend are roughly the same age; they went to school together and they started dating just before/after graduation. You may say that they're on a similar "pace of life". Kuga and Momoka are not. Kuga is a fully-grown man by the time he meets Momoka. He'd have many life experiences that Momoka has yet to experience - you can't just keep saying that Momoka is really mature for her age. The fact is that they're in different life stages and I still can't see how this is portrayed as romantic?
I won't be finishing this series because I only wanted to finish the 3 volumes that I've already spent money on.
This would make a super addictive anime. Romantic and adorable, this manga was easy to read and has a feel good mood. I like that other characters are being introduced and I cannot wait for the next installment!
I am really starting to get into this series! I am sad this is the last book out for awhile because I'm definitely eager for more Kuga and Momoka! This one continues their relationship growth. I like that months are passing within the book so we aren't stuck in the weird high school age gap for too long...
This series features - pro wrestler hero - hero owns a bunny! - heroine is a wrestling fan - heroine is a high school student (but is 18) - instalove - age gap - hero is 29 and heroine is 18 (and still in high school) - a touch of forbidden love - her family initially forbid the relationship, but Kuga is working on winning her father other
The last page calls them "pure people" and I think this really hits the mark. Age gap romances can be hard for me to read, but I think this series handles it really well. Parents are involved, (she is also 18 even though she is in her senior year of high school) boundaries are set, and Kuga is VERY respectful.
First date? More like worst date, amirite? Momoka and Kuga made a zoo of the zoo, but they’ve got a can-do attitude and the heart to make it work. Then Momoka makes a friend who knows her secret and that leads to some of the girliest girl talk I’ve seen in some time.
I’ll say this much (again) - if you’re going to do an age-inappropriate romance, this is about the only way to do it. Kuga is unbelievably cautious to the point of calling Momoka’s dad when the two wind up alone together, so sparks might be flying but the tinder is a little sodden still.
Between their embarrassment with one another, adorable as it is, and the ongoing dilemma of a long distance relationship where one person is travelling for weeks at a time, these two would have to be crazy about one another for this to work.
Lucky for them, saccharine levels are very, very high this volume. These two are insanely bashful around one another and more than most shojo I’ve read, this feels like it is catering to a very specific fantasy. In this case, the strong, burly older man who just happens to also be a total pussycat and all ‘aw shucks’ about things.
I mean Kuga makes a sneak appearance during Momoka’s school trip solely for the purpose of making doe eyes at her. They go on a date, but not until they suddenly realize that this is a thing they can do. A flock of virgins in a pile of freshly fallen snow has more dubious intent than these two. Given how much worse this could be handled, I think this is preferable but it’s a touch slow.
When Kuga’s buddy finds out he’s seeing somebody he horns in on a Kuga and Momoka date with his own girlfriend and she and Momoka hit it off big time. This part’s really kind of sweet in two women coming together over dating famous people and having friends who might finally get what they see in these wrestlers. They bond over chocolate and some very descriptive talk about hardbodies.
Couple things I find annoying - the big match between two powerful frenemies ending in a draw has never seemed like anything but a total cop-out and that remains the case here. This is also all very, very slight. There are as many stakes here as a vegetarian barbecue. Fine if you want some fluff, but there’s nothing to really chew on.
3 stars. A fun, cute, harmless read. I’ll definitely get the final volume, but I don’t know that I’d care if I missed it that much. There’s practically no story here, just two people being sweet. It’s enough to recommend it if you like this sort of thing, but not much more than that.
Kuga and Momoka so cute and pure! The Christmas/new year’s/Valentine’s day bits were good if a bit quick. I liked that Momoka gets a friend who understands what it’s like to date someone famous. Hopefully they’ll become closer friends in the next volume. I’m bummed that volume 4 is the end. I thought for sure it would go a little longer.
This wasn't quite as good as earlier volumes, mostly because the pacing was really off. They're still a cute couple, but I feel like the story is meandering off the path.
Finally, Momoka and Kuga’s relationship moves forward a bit more. While we’ve moved past the arc involving winning over Momoka’s father, his stipulations and the progression there is still present, which I appreciate. The main focus this time in this volume is trying to date while one of the people in the relationship is a celebrity! Things can be tricky, as we see, but once the two seem to have found steady ground for dates and their relationship overall, Kuga’s somewhat nosy friend and colleague bursts in with his own girlfriend in tow. Despite the whirlwind of a rude entrance, it seems that all four might become fast, close friends who could prove to be each others support system in an otherwise sort of lonely circumstance. Lonely because, yes, both couples have each other, but when the relationship must be kept a secret from all but family and close friends, a person, especially the non-celebrity, might start finding themselves feeling a bit outcasted among their peers, especially around the holidays or in romantic situations like Valentine’s Day. It’s nice to see the development of characters and bonds like this; including seeing Shouyou, Kuga’s friend, colleague, and rival develop more as a character. I can see why his girlfriend is totally into him. Earnest, hardworking, but also a total goof who could befriend anyone and seems to bring the overall morale way up in a room.
However, despite all of that, I still have to give this a 3/5 star rating because it seems that this manga lacks real depth and that any choices the characters make have no real consequences besides giving the relationship a new hurdle. I like that the characters approach a lot of their problems as a couple and not as individuals when it is something involving the both of them. However, when Momoka talks about how she’s come to know and love the real Kuga, this statement seems somewhat late. When she mentions this, the reader would recall all the way back to volume one, since that was the last time there was a scene where Kuga’s personality made a lasting impression on both the reader and as observed by Momoka-chan. It’s okay for her to make this statement now, but it seems as though the mangaka gave Momoka no real focus since volume one on Kuga’s personality. It’s always, “he inspires me, he’s so cute, I miss him” etc. but these are not focused on. They’re very much glossed over statements that show us that Momoka does feel something, but not that she is noticing or focusing on any one thing about Kuga or even herself. Alternatively, when Kuga speaks of Momoka, he deliberately mentions their first meeting which justifies these kinds of statements. Their first impressions were so lasting for him that he felt he didn’t need anything more but to enjoy her company. Momoka talks about him differently but without elements within the story to back it.
Overall, Cutie and the Beast gave a huge first impression in volume one, but since then, it sort of just feels dragged on. It’s a really good and cute time killer, but not particularly a manga you can invest much feeling into. Even so, as the next volume is the last volume, I’ll gladly be finishing it up once that volume releases.
I know I have reviewed & mention this on the first/ second volume, but I’m still impress with how respectful is the ML. The FL is also not whiny about not being able to see him every 5mins (sometimes, they did not see each other for months) or wanting to progress. A really cute couple both aware of the age gap and considering it everytime they make a decision. I like it.
If you love some age- gap/ genre, I think this manga is the one for you. Both main characters communicate, respect (the ML takes the matter seriously, he tried to do everything as required by etiquette- given by FL’s father) and understand each other that you want to root for them.
This volume breaks my heart. Just as the series feels like it can become bigger in terms of the where Koga and Momoka's relationship is going and the obstacles it can face. It truly feels like this series could have much bigger elements moving foreard. Unfortunatley, when I went back to the AnimeNewsNetwork article talking about the this series coming out of hiatus I discovered the series will unfortunatley end with the next volume. This is the point where my heart breaks. The series is just starting to get a foothold could be a bigger its going to end. Sigh. Well, I do look forward to the final volume and only hope the author's nexet works is able to run for longer.
This continues to be an amazingly sweet series. Watching Momoka and Kuga struggle with the technicalities of their relationship makes it even better when they work things out! We're properly introduced to two new characters as well and it's definitely going to add a new dimension to the relationship. I also want to know what in the holy hell is going on at the end and can't believe I have to wait for the next volume to find out!
This book is such a steady pace, and I love where the story is going. I appreciate all the characters and the dynamics of the characters! I really am looking forward to the next book. It kind of sucks that I’m gonna have to wait for it but I can be patient. It kind of reminds me of fruit baskets in the level of innocence which I appreciate. It’s hard for some mangas to come off that way for me and for me to still enjoy them completely.
First date ends in disaster and disappointment but Kuga makes it up! Momoka is on her school trip and has a free day so Kuga asks her out and the second date is all cuteness and fun. These two just make their feelings so honest and pure that I just find them so cute. We get a quick Christmas, new years and Valentine’s Day. We also get a date crasher and a planned double date! What lies ahead for our wholesome duo? 🤷♀️

I found this book at my local Barnes and noble and bought it because I thought the story line was interesting, and u really loved the drawing style as well. I love that they both are inexperienced with dating, and that they both are on this rollercoaster of love together!
I am enjoying this series for what it is: fluff. If you're looking for a major story plot and complex characters who develop over time this isn't for you. This is vibes only and I and thoroughly enjoying the vibes. Our main characters are cute. Their relationship is cute. The series is just cute. We came for the fluff. We were not disappointed.
Actual 3.5 - I think this is my least favorite volume of the three out so far. Still cute, but I don’t feel like anything happened and the relationship barely progressed from the previous volume. I believe the fourth volume is the last, so I’ll definitely be finishing the series, but I just wish more had happened in this one.
Super super cute!!! I love this romance! I have never been into really pretty guys so I know how this main character feels. I can’t wait to continue! I found this through Sweat and Soap then proceeded to read all three volumes out! I will definitely be on the look out for volume 4.
This is about Kuga and Momoka. Kuga is a professional wrestler and Momoka is a high school student who starts dating him. These two continue to be so cute, and I love the wrestling references. But I'm dubious about this other wrestler causing drama.
I really love how pure and cute this series is, and its only the third volume! The addition of the rival and his girlfriend sounds like a riot, and the ending of this volume promises some major laughs.
Still a super cute series. I think this volume was my favorite so far. My only real complaint is how much the main characters seem to feel for each other when it doesn't seem like they know each other very well at all. It's unrealistic, but behind that, definitely a good read!
