It’s rare that I give the sequel in a series a better rating than the first, but this was such a phenomenal follow up to Don’t Try Me. The ups and downs in their relationship were well written and well founded based on their shared history. We didn't have to deal with any illogical break up scenes (that are quite common in some of these romances). There’s quite a bit of drama, including suspenseful moments, which made this book oh so good. 5 stars!
DNF - I realize this is a book and not real life but at some point I do enjoy an Author who does a smidge amount of research on the subject they are writing amount. If you're going to write about prisons, work release programs, parole, prisoners on the run etc - I would prefer an Author look up the basics. It would have taken 2? 3? days max to learn the ins and outs of the prison system so she could properly write a book like this. Instead I am sitting here thinking... that doesn't happen. It doesn't work like that... he never would have been given work release. Where is his ankle monitor? You think they would allow a violent career criminal who was denied parole to just walk around the city unsupervised?! Seriously? I enjoyed book one and wish it would have ended at the 75% mark.
I adored everything about this book duo! Brook and Dean are two of my new favourite characters! I loved the way that Brook challenged and changed Dean! Dean was so grumpy and sweet, and I fell head over heels in love with him the first time he interacted with Jacob. Every character in this book was so well thought out and unique! This story wasn’t your usual cliche new girl romance, it had grit and raw passion and I loved every second of it! A refreshing, easy to read book! I’ve got my fingers crossed for the rest of the teams own stories!
You know it was good. The character development was real nice too but the mom suddenly changing at the end was a littl meh. Like brook said she had already changed for the better but then went back to acting like her old self. What’s not to say she won’t go back to acting like that. But at least Chad was good for something. Can’t believe her parents found excuses to okay his behavior aka assault. I also didn’t really like that she didn’t tell Dean about it... I understand why but it’s still a little frustrating you know. She should’ve been able to vent to someone who would support her... if you only talk to ppl who blame it on you you may end up believing their words so yea better to talk to someone who knows what chad did isn’t right. I’m glad Dean’s knee survived and hope he’s able to play like before. Loved his character development but I didn’t like that he didn’t apologize to Danny after Danny asked Dean if he was accusing him of wanting Brook for himself. Like sir at least have the decency to say you know he really wouldn’t do that because he’s your friend... Dad wanted “best” for his daughter in his own way but was going about it the wrong way and I hope his new wife actually left him. Sorry not sorry. Hope we get to meet the sister after having her be mentioned so much
So this one took me in less than 24 hours to finish lol. I enjoyed the story. I am happy that it wasn't one of those stories that just drag on and on, you take a 400 page book and turn it into 2000 lol. This story got right to the point, showed their struggles, and in the end it was a really good book. I loved it. I'm going to read the next one. It's funny because this was my filler series. The one that I read in between taking a break while my tablet charged so I can read my other book. And once my tablet was charged I didn't want to deviate from this series. So I took a break from the previous series which was the Fallen by Jr ward, and I've been reading this series. One more book to go and then I'm done. So for anyone who's reading this review, give the book of chance. These books are awesome.
Again, 3.5 Platypires, but I’m rounding up because this book deserves the larger half? Idk. I do what I want. Anyway, I’m glad the writing was done in such a way that I didn’t get too emotionally invested, or I could have cried. This book had a lot going on. A lot of the dramas and emotional things. The characters are unaware they’re competing for worst father ever, and though they’re completely different, they’re both awful. Dean’s dad is the worst kind of dad for what he did to his wife and children, Brook’s dad is also absolute scum for wielding his wallet in the same way Joe Sanders wields a knife.
However, still not a bully romance. Barely even a romance, this one is definitely rated PG in that department. Still, everyone loves a HEA for star-crossed lovers.
SPOILERS!!!! ************* ************ *********** ********** ********* ******** ******* ****** ***** **** *** ** * I'm still currently reading this and I thoroughly enjoyed the first book. I'll still continue to finish this book. I'm only on the first chapter and am having a hard time keeping up. It starts out with Dean being in the hospital and Brook and Danny trying to figure out what happened. But the author has mixed Danny and Dean's names up so many times. I've had to reread sentences to make sure I'm not missing anything. It's a tad frustrating but its not enough to make me want to stop reading all together. The editor on this book should have caught these mistakes.

This book was quite fast-paced compared to the first book and although I had my suspicions as to which way this book was going to go, I had no idea it would get as tough and rough as it did. My heart broke for both Dean and Brook in this book as each had to deal with personal issues, that although vastly different, hurt both for very different reasons.
I loved these two as a couple, and throughout this duet I have been rooting for them and was glad to see them come out the other side relatively unscathed. Great duet.
3.5/5 stars after the first book this felt alittle stagnant. There was so much of the same argument and flip flopping between her mom and dad with going back to school it was becoming annoying. I felt we should’ve seen Jakes point of view because it would’ve added alittle more depth to see his trials and tribulations. I also feel we should’ve seen atleast a blip of him doing his physio therapy to help add alittle more drama with football scholarships rather than relying on Brooks parent situation. I would still recommend this duet.
This is the second part of Dean and Brook's story, he please sure to read Don't Try Me before reading this book.
After everything Dean and Brook have been through, Dean's father making a reappearance is the worst possible thing that could happen right now. This is a very intriguing conclusion for Brook and Dean, it will keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more to the very end. Great read and I highly recommend it!
Deans dad is on the run and Dean is fighting for his life. Brook is doing all she can but can help but think she has failed him. With her parents now threatening to send her back to her ex and her old life she is trying to figure it all out and still be there for Dean. But the more she tries, the more he pushes back. He thinks there is evil in him, the same as his dad. Will his brother come home because if not Dean will seem his own justice
Fully prepared for another cliffhanger (now that I realized this series was about the same couple and not multiple stand-alones in the same universe) but… this one had a nice ending. There is one more book to tie the whole love affair together but, I’m not in a rush to read it because I wanna let this book settle first. Great read… might like book one a smidge better but book two is equally as compelling, in my opinion.
So in my review for the first book I found the story to be a little slow maybe? But I couldn’t leave it at book one so here we are. And I must admit it gets better. I’m glad that I finished the second book since the characters improve, the story didn’t feel as rushed and it was just generally more enjoyable.
This series was the best. I was skeptical at first but as I read it I could not put it down. The characters are so real. I know that this situation happens in life, it's just to imagine it. The story is so good but sad what the characters to through. You just have to read it. I read other books by this author & her writing is so good.
This second book was too meh and I had the feeling that almost nothing happened, but I love Brooke, Dean, Jake, Eve and the guys, so I had to finish it.
After such a harmless bully beginning, Brook n Dean realise they were both hiding from things but together they saw just how important being together really was. After the drama with Deans dad n with Brooks pushy ex n her rich daddy, they finally get things sorted n couldn't happier, loved the story
It was a good read however if you’re the kind that catches writing flaws in a book (like me) then you’ll be disappointed. There are a lot character mix ups and perspective mix ups within the first 35% of the book and I honestly lost interest when it was more than once or twice
I absolutely LOVE this couple so much!! I was on edge at the end of Don’t Try Me and stayed that way for the first few chapters of this. I’m happy Brook’s mom finally took control back after everything they have been through. Now I’m going to go read Don’t Taunt Me to see how this series ends. 🖤🔥🏈🔥🖤
I could not wait to read this book. I truly got invested with the characters, this could be anyone from anywhere. I could not put it down, I had to know how it came together. I wish there was another book in the series,I would love to know, what happens next.
Brooke and Dean have come a long way but there's still things that they need and want to over come. They stick to their guns and push through. Very nice story line and sweet ending.
I tremendously enjoyed this book. Although, I found it hard to stomach, the abuse the Dean suffered at the hand of his lunatic father. However the rest of the read was really good.
This a story about a young female and male character, and this were a fantastic story, about find out what they were made of. And to still have, a romantic relationship.
I enjoyed this read but not as much as the first book. It was nice to see Brooks mom stand up for her in the end though! Deans love for his brother Jacob is evident and they truly care for one another. I would read it again.
This book is perfect for the people who love to see the amazing growth of the characters and how there story really play out in end. A lot of loved don’t alway last the high school year but the ones that do are the most strongest!
This duet is my first with this author. Love the story and the characters but I feel like it should have been condensed to one book. I would love to have a book that tells Jake’s story as he gets older.
This was so good omg Brooke dad and that Chad I wanted to slap him and Jane .I loved dean . Wow his dad . I kept thinking the mother would return . Guess not m liver Jacob . I find out there is another book so excited
This is an excellent part 2 to a great story! I love Dean and Brook. They are the sweetest couple and to watch them grow and mature together is awesome! I’m glad there will be a follow up. I can’t wait to read more!
Okay read. This was similar to the first. I just kinda hated how everything works out 🤣🤣 I no right?!?! But not everything always does and it annoyed me here…made the story way less believable for me.
I'm afraid things read a little flat for me. The characters seemed to lose some depth, we didn't get enough of the bigger picture, and I didn't feel as invested. Quick read as a cute romance.
