A shocking secret lies at the bottom of the Caribbean Sea.
When her journalism mentor is killed in a horrific plane crash, Kate Kingsbury travels to New York to lay him to rest. There, she discovers his quest to prove a Chinese fleet arrived in the Caribbean nearly a hundred years before the Europeans. As she follows his leads, she meets the charming Brian Yim, whose uncle — a powerful Chinese oil magnate — is searching for the fleet, too.
Is Brian seeking truth, or is he a mole for his uncle? And will Kate live long enough to find out?
Fans of Travis McGee or Sam & Remi Fargo will love Kate Kingsbury and the crew at Shark Key Campground and Marina.

Chris(tine) Niles has been telling stories since she was a lying kid. Now she’s figuring out how to make a career of it. Because she likes to eat, she tried for about fifteen minutes to write romance. But her characters kept killing each other, so she switched to thrillers.
She lives in northeastern Indiana with her husband, two daughters, and a hungry four-legged sack of fur named Franklin. When she's not writing, she loves to travel around the world, always finding great hiding places for bodies whether she's in the city or the wilderness.
Lost Fleet By Chris Niles This is book #3 in the series. I read the prequel and didn't have books 1 or 2. It didn't seem to matter, I was able to understand the story and not get lost. This was an interesting story with a good plot about a possibility of a different history that has been white washed from our history books. Image that! Really? Lol! Like we didn't know they have done this before but this is really good and I think a lot of people believe the corrupt history the force down kids throats. How wonderful Christopher Columbus was and all that! Ugh! Anyway, I enjoyed the story with it's action, suspense, and interesting characters. My favorite character is the dog!
Well if I continue reading books by Chris Niles, I may be able to pass as a certified SCUBA diver.
I do enjoy an alternative history tech adventure and Chris Niles does like to write them. When I started reading this book I did not realize that I had skipped installment number two of this series. However, the story does not rely heavily on items from book two to set up the plot for book three (or four if you count the prequel).
As an audio book I was pleasantly impressed with Kelsey Ann O'Dowd as the female character narrator. Her voices gave distinct characterization to each of the females in the story. The narrator for the male characters, Brian Meslar, seemed to me to be over-the-top for each male voice he portrayed. His voices and delivery seemed better suited for a melodrama or radio commercial announcements. He presented a decent contrast to Kelsey's alto voice, but each of his men were given either a baritone or a deep bass.
Authentic diving descriptions laced with non-stop action...
The story accelerates as Kate Kingsbury faces danger and near-impossible barriers as she unravels the mystery started with her journalist-friend's sudden death. A great adventure story, spiced with many scenes involving her K-9 Shepherd, topped off at the end with a new friend who just happens to be a former Navy SEAL. I hope Niles brings Tony back in the next book in the series. Love the twists, and beats that energize the tale.
I enjoy a good tale and this one fits the bill. Kate and her 4 legged side kick, Whiskey, find themselves caught up in another treasure hunt. The supporting cast of characters are likable and are willing participants helping Kate follow the clues. Between their generous help with boats and planes and gadgets and Kate’s tenacity we are able to enjoy the adventure right along with them.
A rollicking story from beginning to end, filled with plot twists and very capable characters. A bit weak on occasion in scene setting, leaving me puzzled as to what was going on. Nonetheless, well worth reading—and it taught me things about diving and the Caribbean that are fun to know.
Wonderful! Amazing! Chris has done it again. I couldn’t put Lost Fleet down. I loved learning more about Kate and her background. Plus, the mystery of the lost Chinese fleet. I was sad when I finished the book, because I wanted to read more. I can hardly wait for the next book! Enjoy!
Page-turning adventure. I had a hard time putting the book down. Great story with lots of action and suspense. Highly recommend, makes sure you have time though you will not want to put it down.
I volunteered to read an ARC copy of this book. This is my honest opinion
The book in my opinion went down hill in the story line when she meets a stranger in a museum and invites him along on a treasure hunt. Who would do that? Add on that the stranger is the nephew of the person after them. After find out they still trust him.
Fast pace adventure story, a very easy to read book. The action never seems to stop and the plot goes in many directions before coming to the conclusion, although expected, somewhat a surprise how it came to fruition.
This is a great story. Kate's life sometimes hangs in the balance as she seeks to do what is right and reach out to bring justice to those who deserve it. This story is full of excitement, danger and deceit. I recommend this book.
Lost Fleet is part of an outstanding series. It is an excellent book with a cleverly written plot, plenty of suspense and a lot of twists and turns. I love the characters, especially Whiskey. The wonderful narration makes the book even more enjoyable.
Too much in the way of coincidence. But, an enjoyable read nonetheless. Been to those places and enjoyed having my memory jogged. Love any story involving the Keys..
Awesome Kate Kingsbury adventure. This girl really gets around!! Can't wait to see what she gets herself into in Lost Gems. Never a dull moment on Shark Key!
A rousing adventure that takes the reader from south Florida and the Keys, to New York City, and to tropical Caribbean islands in search of a legendary Chinese exploration fleet lost to history. Filled with action and memorable characters. A fast-paced, fun read, complete with diving and dogs!
