This book explains, in simple language and with clear illustrations, what the climate is, and how it is changing very rapidly at the moment, and the effects this is having on our planet. It tackles suggestions about what needs to change in the way people live, from power stations to farming, and explains why it’s so difficult to do. Along the way, it also talks about what individuals can do, including tips on how to keep a clear head and not get overwhelmed by bad news. Part of the award-winning ‘for Beginners’ series, which includes Politics for Beginners, Business for Beginners and Money for Beginners. Full-colour illustrations throughout, combining diagrams and graphs with humorous comic strips. Created in collaboration with Steve Smith, head of Climate Science at the UK government’s Dept of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, also a fellow at Oxford University.
I bought this book for my 11 year old but I must say that I would have enjoyed it more than him. It's kind of a compressed version of 'How to avoid a climate disaster' by Bill Gates. I will not categorize this book as a children's version as I think it's for all age groups interested in the subject. Well, interested or not, we are all in it.
The pictures and illustrations visualize various scenarios and I loved the fact that it explained climate change from the basics, to what we perceive, what stops us, what all can be done holistically and what all options each individual has. Loved the fact that it encouraged people to approach the information we have with a scientific temper and how conflicts and arguments can be better dealt with diplomacy. My rating - 5 stars.
Very informative for someone like me who doesn’t have much knowledge on the climate crisis and wants to learn more! There’s a lot of references to real studies and statistics while still being quite readable. I think you’ll find this book quite accessible for many ages. 4 stars
