Paper Heart is a collection of poetry about love and loss, hearts colliding, breaking and being remade anew. It starts slowly, hesitatingly, like falling in love after heartbreak, weaving memories of childhood trauma, and the impact of cross-generational trauma, using white space like the whisper of secrets in the dark.

I received a copy of this book through VRO’s wonderful service and I’m so happy I did.

Sure, if you aren’t a fan of modern poetry, this won’t be your cup of tea. I’m certainly not a poetry expert (so take my review with a grain of salt), but this collection is significantly better than a lot of what I’ve read recently.

It started out as something light I could imagine reading by a fire on a cold night, curled up next to someone I love. But then it just captivated me and got so serious and heavy. I

I received an ARC of this book and I absolutely loved it. I don’t consider myself much of a poetry person, but the author’s writing just makes it so enjoyable. The author shows vulnerability in every poem and it’s utterly refreshing. I highly recommend it!!

I received this book through Voracious Readers and I'm glad that I chose to request this book :) I'm not a big reader of poetry books but whenever I see one that peaks my curiosity I always try and give it a shot. This is a mixed poetry book about happiness, hurt, and other touchy subjects but the author managed to make all of them work and have them all be enjoyable in their own way. I will probably be checking out more from the author after reading this. ...more

I received a copy of this book from Voracious Readers. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book!
I requested it because I'm just starting out reading poetry and it is a short read.

What got me was when I started reading how at the very start it had a warning that the book contains sensitive information, I love how books have that. It shows how the author really cares about who is reading.

Trigger Warning: This very personal, very intimate, collection of modern poetry contains interpreted lyrical poetry about self-harm, depression, addiction, death of a parent, rape, abuse, just to point out some of the more major content. Please practice health-care before, during, and after, reading this poetry collection.

My heart hurt reading through this collection. Many of the poems resonated within me, as I've experienced same and similar situations before myself. Read

LeBlanc’s Paper Heart dives deep into darkness, while still clutching the light. This autobiographic work deals with love and heartbreak, as well as abuse, sexual assault, and the complicated emotions that accompany the loss of an abusive parent. Throughout the text LeBlanc remains highly experimental in structure, spanning from regular rhyme schemes to free verse to acrostics to prose poems and beyond, while still maintaining accessible language that appeals to a broad audience.

Upon first reading the first few poems in this book I was unsure as to whether or not I was going to enjoy the work written by Jennifer LeBLanc; it was the first time I had read anything by her and I admit I am often times a very judgmental reader who needs instant gratification. However, I wanted to give the book a fair chance before writing a review, as it would do no one well to preemptively critique the works of this author. Now, sin

I received an ARC of this book and I’m so glad I did! I read the entire thing in about 20 or so minutes and I’m ready to go right back and read it all over again! These poems are filled with so much emotion and beautiful imagery and glorious words. I loved how each poem had a unique aspect that kept it flowing and nothing felt repetitive.

There is a definite story to these poems as you move through the book. But the story is one that can be interpreted by the reader as it’s not explicitly shared

I received a free copy to review and I read it in one sitting! I greatly enjoy poetry and I found a top 5 author! Each poem was unique, rhythmic, and honest. The imagery was very intense which made me read each poem multiple times to get everything I could from each one. There was something raw and truthful to each poem with a background story each time. I hope this author keeps writing and gets to be a number one bestseller!

I recieved this book for free to review it and immediately sat down and started on it. I've read a lot of books in the past, each telling a new story or making me feel new emotions, and this book of poetry was no different.
I loved it, the author is obviously a very talented writer and each poem is full of emotion and tell another part of a larger story.
Overall, I throughly enjoyed reading this book and would suggest it to anyone looking for a new read.

I received an ARC in exchange for a review. I gave this book 4 stars because there were some poems that just didn't work for me. However, 95% of them did. They are just so raw and you can feel the author's pain. There are poems about loss, heartache, abuse, grief, love, acceptance, and death and they're all so real. I was impressed by the collection. I will definitely recommend it. ...more

Book received in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this collection of poems. They are a real mixture of simple and more complex poems and use a variety of poetry devices. Quite a few really stood out for me and reminded me a little bit of Sylvia Plath‘s early poetry work. I will definitely be reading this again and looking forward to seeing it LeBlanc produces any more work in the future.

I got a complimentary copy of this from VoraciousReadersOnly. I'm not usually that interested in reading poems and initially found these hard to get into, but the second half of the poems were incredible and I flew through them. This author touches on a lot of challenging topics but writes about them in a personal and sensitive day, I'd definitely want to read more poems written by her. ...more

I really loved the way that the author took her emotions and feelings and put them into words. She explained things so beautifully that I as the reader was able to feel right along side her, the good and the bad. I even found myself tearing up over a few of the stories!
Whether you are an avid reader of poetry or not, I can assure you, that you will not regret picking up Paper Heart and giving it a read.

I really enjoyed this. If modern poetry isn’t your thing, then this probably won’t work for you. But I love her word choices and the flow. There were some that stood out more than others, as to be expected I think. I definitely recommend it

Paper Heart? More like Brave Heart.

Stunning and breathtaking. As lush and whimsical as it was raw and gritty. Jennifer sweeps you off your feet and bravely takes you into her darkest corners. I am a huge fan of poetry, mostly because you never know what to expect. Poetry reveals the poet's innermost soul and it is always fascinating. I enjoyed this book thoroughly, often reading it outside in the sun.

My absolute favorite poem is Titanium Girl.

I don't usually read poetry so it's hard for me to review it properly and this is the first time I've read a collection of poems that are exclusively from a modern author. And by the Gods I need to get myself a physical copy of this book because the poetry hit a tender spot in my heart. A lot of them resonated with my experiences so much. Reading them was an incredibly personal experience I want to go back to at some point in my future reading. Thank you Jennifer LeBlanc for truly creating somet ...more

This collection of poetry is definitely geared towards an older.crowd as there are some pretty dark, and serious issues brought out in the writing. It didnt trigger me like I thought it did.

I thought the collection of poems all fit together nicely, and were really well done. The author, Jennifet Leblanc, explores and plays around with many different poetry styles to create her collection.

Very well done. This was the first thing I have read by this author, and even though it has some dark topic

I really appreciated that the author included a list of trigger warning at the beginning of this collection. I wish more authors did this for all genres.

I need to put it out there that I am new to the world of poetry. I thought this collection was beautiful, and I'll admit that the first half flew over my head.

However... the second half of this book really got me. The hurt, grief, struggle and love just leapt off the page at me and took me on my own emotional journey.

Absolutely beautiful. I read all of them at once (I know, that's not the right way to do it, you're supposed to take your time with poetry), but for those who do like me, the experience is amazing. The best sensation for me was how the type of poetry varies - rhymes, no rhymes, poems making up the title through first lines, even the spacing and placement of the poems on the page. The notes said that poems come from al

[I was given a free copy of the book by the author in exchange for a review through Voracious Readers Only]

This was a lovely collection of poetry! Jennifer LeBlanc has taken all of her heartbreak, grief, and trauma along with her joy and renewed self-esteem and transformed them into beautiful verse. I loved how raw and deep the poems were and it was nice to see the under-appreciated acrostic poem style put to great use as well. I struggled to find the rhythm of a few of the rhyming poems but oth

It has been a long time since I’ve connected with every single poem in a collection, but Jen’s writing spoke to my very core. This book broke me apart and put me back together multiple times, and made me feel so many emotions that sometimes I had to take a break and just sit with them. I read poetry to make me feel something and to express words that I’m scared to say, and I feel like Jen pulled the words and stories right out of me. This is a must have for any poetry collection!

I received my copy through "voracious readers only". I'm not a poetry person but giving Leblanc a chance will never be a bad decision. The poems start with sober doses of pain, vulnerability and intense love in the end making the reader not wanting to put the book down. A bunch of contemporary poems that are free versed, lucid language gives the book a plus one.
Hope you enjoy it too!!

“Amour Fou” - There’s the love that makes sense, the one that grows with you and gets nurtured. The one you love in the ways that love allows, which is usually quite the opposite of what we are seeing here. Paper Heart chronicles a different kind: the all consuming, endless struggle of a person’s admiration for another individual that ultimately is not reciprocated. I’ve been here and it’s truly a horrifically addictive place. When the mind and soul lead you down such a path, you believe that ev ...more

Jennifer LeBlanc has given us a beautiful book of poetry. It shows a journey I am guessing of her life. The poems show a depth of character as she writes about dark places, light places and hopeful places. I was very moved to learn more about this very brilliant author, that she was willing to put herself out there and show herself so deeply. I am sure I will turn these pages again. Bravo.

This book of poetry really hits you hard. These words are filled with pain, love, and regret, a collection of poems full of emotion and vulnerability. It speaks to those who are going through or have gone through the same grief of loving those who only hurt you. As an artist of words, I really appreciate Author LeBlanc's willingness to reveal the deepest sorrows of her soul. ...more
