Scottish Lowlands, 1818
A determined Mistress Katie Stirling is determined to claim her inheritance, the MacDuff castle in Fife. It was land stolen from her family that should have been passed down through her mother, Aileen MacDuff Stirling and she needed to bring her people there.
Of course they have a wheel break just as they are in sight of the castle but luckily two large men ride up and she hopes they can help. He was introduced to her as Laird Evan MacNeil of Argyll.

This was a very entertaining read. I liked the characters of Katie Stirling and Evan, Laird McNeil. Evan was quite arrogant and used to having his orders obeyed without question. That is, until he comes across Katie. Katie is also used to running her father’s estate and is determined and feisty but has a caring nature for people and animals. They are attracted to each other and share a number of passionate kisses. However, Katie needs to settle her clan in their end surroundings and Evan needs t ...more

This is a fun book. Katie shows up with her younger brother and several people from her clan to claim the castle that she believes she has inherited. There, she meets Evan...who has also just arrived to claim his inheritance of the same castle. These two are stubborn and clash immediately as neither will back down but eventually agree to work together while they sort everything out. Hutton has written two very strong characters. Katie demands to be heard and treated with respect...woman or not. ...more

A Scott to Wed by Callie Hutton

Highlander Laird Evan MacNeil inherited the MacNab lands, Mistress Katie Sterling believes this is her inheritance. Katie travels across Scotland to bring her ragtag family and clan to a new place and life. Chaos ensues as her clansmen start to trickle in. This was such a fun story to read. The characters were well written and I was rooting for them from the start.

This story has family loyalty, kidnapping, arrogant lairds, perseverance, castle chaos, puppies, and

Mistress Katie Stirling has uprooted her family and half her clan to travel across Scotland and claim her birthright.  She has more than one reason for the journey.

Laird Evan MacNeil has come to take control of his inheritance and hire someone to look after it when he goes back to his clan.  He doesn't expect a rival claimant.

The clash of two strong characters, both with the welfare of their clans to consider will cause storm clouds.  Chaos reigns throughout the castle.

Lots of fun and a lit

Even though this novel was a little on the short side for me. It packs quite a punch.

Mistress Katie Sterling arrives at MacDuff Castle claiming the land that Laird Evan MacNeil was legally inherited. With no plans to stay at the estate Evan agrees to let Katie manage the estate in his absence. Especially since some of her clansmen are set to arrive

Now he's visiting with his tenants before he leaves, with Katie along also.
And of course the more time they spend together, only fuels their growing

A Scot to Wed is the second book in the Scottish Hearts series. It works well as a stand alone book. I really enjoyed this romance. The characters were fun and headstrong. I loved how Katie and Evan played off each other. Katie was a force to be reckoned with and was a perfect mach for Evan. Their banter made me laugh. I loved the HEA and how Katie was able to find a home for her clan. The other characters added to the fun of the book. I loved Alastaire. He was hilarious. I definitely recommend ...more

A fun read that takes you into Scotland, into castles and beautiful scenery. Evan inherits the Macduff castle and occupants and is in a rush to get back to his own clan, the last thing he needs is a woman and a weak claim to the land. Katie needs to prove her claim to this land to save herself, her brother, and her clan. As Evan and Katie navigate this hurtle they butt heads the entire time...but as they argue they are learning they like what they learn. Their path to HEA is bumpy with a villain ...more
This is a historical romance with a strong, feisty and determined female lead and an arrogant, stubborn male. He’s the laird and isn’t used to having his decisions questioned. She’s been running her family estate since her Father was unable to cope after her mother died giving birth to her brother. Now she’s moving to claim MacDuff castle and lands, bringing many of the families from her previous home with her. Laird Evan MacNeil has just inherited that land and has arrived to check it out. This was a fast-paced, swoon-worthy read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story was fresh, original and exciting with characters that are realistic and likable. It is everything you could want in a rousing romp through the pages of a historical romance and more!

Magnificent read. Katie is a feisty Scottish Lass used to being in charge of her own life. Gavin is a brawny highland Laird. The two are immediately on a collision course. This is an exciting read with the two characters engaging in conversations of quick wit and snappy comebacks. As they try tight that age old attraction they also have to deal with the very funny invasion of people and animals into the castle. It is not a very long story but one you will probably very much enjoy reading in one ...more

I love reading Callie Hutton. Not because of the dashingly, virile, yet rough around the edges hero. My fascination lies in the heroines who refuse to be anyone's damsel in distress. It's that fighting spirit that left me in awe of Katie Sterling. She's no wilting flower and her fierce determination is what shines through from start to finish. A Scot to Wed is a tale of passion that does not surrender until it lays claim to your heart. ...more

Lovely story. I loved the sassy Katie - she got away with a lot. Entertaining and enjoyable reading.

A feisty and desperate heroine, Katie, shows up with her family and part of her clan claiming to be the laird of the land, Evan has just inherited. Evan tries to appease her by making her the land steward. When danger follows Katie Evan protects her. They both realize they can’t be without each other. I liked that Katie did not let Evan get away with taking over and not including her on the important decisions! I received an ARC from NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for my honest review.

Two strong personalities clash at every turn, making for a few amusing moments, as well as a lot of sparks. Katie and Evan start feuding from the very start, but it’s heartening that he trusts her with overseeing his estate, even as he countermands her and ignores her feelings. Good story, lots of interesting developments, and enough heat between this couple that their romance sizzles.

This book rather tested me, folks. Hence, my struggle for the right words to fairly review/rate it. You see, I was intrigued and enjoying this main couple’s rocky road to a relationship from the verra beginning. I am quite fond of a strong, sassy, spitfire leading lady, and Katie fit that bill. At times, however, she could throw an overly, unnecessary, toddler type tantrum like nobody’s business instead of talking things through like an adult. For the most part, she did always seem to be concern ...more

I enjoyed Callie Hutton's "A Scot to Wed" primarily because it was so different from a typical historical romance; there were no ballroom scenes to be found here! It was a relatively light, sweet, quick read featuring interesting characters and a unique plot, set in the beautiful Scottish lowlands which is always a lovely place to "visit."

Female lead character Katie was quite bold and brave for a young woman of her time, but she had the intelligence and skills to back it up. She acted as the le

This is an excellent story. I have not enjoyed reading a book as much as I have this one in a long while. I loved the banter between the main characters Katie and Evan. I really admire Katie. She is easy to relate to and to identify with. She is brave and risks the unknown for her clan and herself. She can run a keep; keep the books and she is a healer to her people. Most importantly she is a mother figure for her ten-year-old brother Gavin. Evan can be obtuse most

I really enjoyed Katie and Evan's story--it made me laugh even more than it made me swoon. The way that Katie gave him grief from the very first time that they were on the page together was absolutely fabulous. (And then Evan thought once they were married that she'd suddenly start toeing the line? Ha!) Every new group of people from Katie's clan who showed up at Evan's--or is it Katie's?--castle made me crack up for a new and novel reason, and on

Sweet highlander battle of love

Katie and her small entourage had to leave what was left of her family estate, heading to the castle that was left to her through her mother's inheritance. Or so she thought. She arrives just as Evan and his brother arrive to claim the castle and land as dictated in the late laird's will. These two battle for control over the estate while battling their growing feelings towards each other.

These are characters that instantly come to life off the page, even as both K

A Scot to Wed by Callie Hutton is a fun romance.
Katie has traveled to the MacDuff castle wanting to claim it as her own based on a very old document. Katie is a strong and likeable character. She is used to managing an estate and has raised her brother. She is a healer and wants to do right by her people and protect her brother at all costs.

Evan, Laird McNeil has inherited the castle although he doesn’t really want it. I enjoyed his character. He might have been arrogant but he also respected

A Scot to Wed is the second novel in the Scottish Hearts series. It was short and fun but full of witty banter and strong emotions. Katie Sterling needed a way to save her clan and get away from the horrible man who claims her father signed a betrothal contract with. She remembered an old document her mother had shown her that proved their claim to the MacDuff castle. With no other options avail ...more

A Scot to Wed is a real treat. Laird Evan MacNeil is serious, demanding, duty-conscience, and a little grumpy. Mistress Katie Sterling is smart, feisty, caring, and determined. They have nothing in common except their claims to MacDuff Castle. From the moment they meet, Evan is completely confounded by this strong, independent woman. They agree on almost nothing. It’s going to take some effort for these two to work together. They certainly cannot fall in love, but how can they not?

This wasn't a bad story but it wasn't a great one either. It left me kinda meh. Its a quick read, short, easy to read with authentic language of the time. I can tell that the author did her research into the time period and customs which was appreciated. The story line itself is very promising but for me telling it fell flat. Character development was lacking and the ending was very rushed, even the epilogue ended on an abrupt note. There was a lot of repetition throughout, a lot of telling Kati ...more

A charming easy read by a very good author. I truly enjoyed this story. Katie has been running her father's holdings since he fell into a bottle after her mother died giving birth to her brother. She showed Katie the paper explaining this. Katie found the papers after hearing about the death of the M ...more

This middle length romance is set in Scotland and both dialogues and reported thoughts of the characters in the descriptions are written with several elements of Scottish accent, more so than in other romances I read in the past. If the language style does not pose a problem for you, you’ll find an enjoyable story of 2 strong-willed characters who are opponents by chance but soon find a w ...more

Hi Romance Fans,

My historical romances are full of heat, humor, and quirky characters. I’ve always loved history, which was my college major. Things of the past fascinate me.
