Chosen to Be God's Prophet: How God Works in and Through Those He Chooses

Samuel's life was full of incredible-and defining-moments as God shaped him and guided him. As readers observe how God moved in Samuel's life, they will recognize those moments in their own lives; moments that that are so different from the run-of-the-mill ones. God uses these "divine moments," which often come during times of crisis, to bring His purposes to pass.

By taking a glimpse into what God did in Samuel's life, Dr. Blackaby enables readers to define those critical times in their lives when God selects us as His chosen servants.

Fantastic!

It took me longer to read than I would have liked; however, this is a RICH in content and requires thought and careful consideration and application. Not a “quick read” but valuable for any church leader!

This book was actually referenced by Phil Vischer (creator of Veggie Tales) in his book, Me, Myself, & Bob, so I thought I would take a look at it. It was definitely worth the time, although it wasn't quite what I expected. Specifically, I thought it would go into more historical detail concerning the life of Samuel, but it was really just dedicated to his spiritual journey as a prophet. I thought the best part was really the same thing Vischer mentioned in his book, the fact that we are a people of revelation, not of vision. We often try to develop a vision for our own future and try to get God to follow it rather than listening to God and obeying His wishes for our lives. The life of Samuel and his interactions with Saul and David are a perfect representation of this truth.

Interesting book, and I may read his book on Joshua in the future. I would recommend this to those struggling with finding their "vision" in this world.

Walking through the life of Samuel the Prophet of God, Blackaby shares how power and impact comes through God. He also highlights the truth of learning from others so that the same mistakes are not repeated. Samuel's life, for the most part, was one of obedience and this obedience enabled him to observe the great works of God. Very enjoyable read and more devotional style written with questions at each chapter to help readers apply what was shared. If you are looking for more of a novel style, this may not be a good one for you. Overall, good it was a good read.
