This is a glimpse into the behind the scenes life of an author who knows her subject matter by doing research. I loved the humorous moments and how Amish districts differ. The pictures included bring life to the chapters. This is a quick informative read and as a bonus includes a short story entitled An Amish Adoption. I needed tissues and was quickly drawn into the story. The only downside was it ended. If you enjoy cooking there are recipes included at the end. You receive a complete package w ...more

Beth Wiseman shares a very insightful, extremely interesting and educational look into her latest book Writing About The Amish: The Memoir. Beth opens up her heart and shares stories of her experiences with the friends she has met within this population.

As many of my blog followers know, Beth Wiseman is a favourite author of mine. I have been reading her books since the first one was published! Never has one of her creations disappointed me!! Each is unique and full of unexpected twists and turns. This book is very different in that it answers questions that many of lovers of the Amish genre have. It is a short collection of memoirs that Beth has put together so that we can better understand how she gathers her information. It is full of her ex ...more

Beth is hands-down my favorite author. She writes in a way as if you are either there with her and or her characters or you are just having a conversation with her. You can always feel her heart shining through in every books she writes. Writing About the Amish: A Memoir was a great addition to her library. I loved hearing her personal stories of how she came to write about the Amish. I think something people tend to forget is that every Amish sect is different and I am glad this books touches o ...more

Beth Wiseman is a Best Selling Author of Amish books.
This book has two parts:
the first is written in first person, with small chapters about different topics, memories and questions readers asked Beth: about her job as a writer or about amish dresses, bathrooms, relationships, buggy rides..
the second is the short novella 'An amish adoption', about foster care as parents and fostered children.
Amish books are God centered, as their lives are.

Ever wonder how an author gathers information for her writing subject? In Writing About the Amish, Beth Wiseman shares how she gathered her information from various Amish trips and people and how she makes sure her information is accurate. She shares beautiful photos and recipes as well in her new book. And I'm a sucker for recipes, so I really liked this part. She has also included a bonus short story, An Amish Adoption, which is emotional and you just might need a tissue or two. This book was ...more

This book is for everyone who wants an inside peek into the life of an author complete with photos of many of the scenes and people involved. As she titles one chapter; "It's Not All Glitz and Glamour." An added plus -- there is a bonus s ...more

Beth Wiseman has been one of must-read authors for several years so I was super excited when I found out she was writing this book. As a long time fan of her work, I knew she thoroughly researched the Amish communities she has written about and in this book, she shares her experiences with her readers. I love that she has a great deal of respect combined with genuine interest when approaching the communities she is writing about.

The author writes with such warmth and humor that time flew by as

I have always been fascinated with the Amish lifestyle and Beth has given me a glimpse into their world by sharing her personal experiences with the Amish. The added pictures are beautiful and the short story is a wonderful addition that held my attention and I was sad to see it end.
I received a complimentary copy from the author but the review is my own.
