Everyone Saytera knows can conjure fire, but all she can do is create darkness.

In search for answers about her destiny and who she is, she leaves her island for the first time—and almost gets killed. On the run and with no way to return home, she finds refuge in a military academy. Problem is, she can't even fire a gun--they just don't work with her. No kidding, right? Sh

I have received an e-book of this book from Netgalley in exchange for a honest review. All opinions and thoughts are mine.

Actual rating: 4.75 (I debated this for awhile I chose to round my rating up to 5 stars)

-Synopsis-
Star Spark Captured my attention from the moment I read the description and started the first chapter. This book got me out of a week slump (which I’m grateful for). I thought this was a great standalone. I liked how this story started and gave lots of details and information an

First Impressions (First Chapter Thoughts)
After reading the first chapter of this book, I didn’t feel pulled in right away and a few bits of the story sounded like pieces of a mystery that I’d heard before. Nonetheless, I wanted to know how this story would be different and I already had questions that I wanted answers to. While I might not have felt completely enamored yet, I wanted to keep reading.

When reading the blurb and looking at the cover the book looks so good! But i felt bored and confused most of the time. The story seemed to hook itself onto something, then suddenly another thing and jumped from hook to hook, wich made me confused and Dess`s parts were boring and i know it was building up to the two main characters to meet but it felt like it didn`t need to be there, we could have been introdused to him when she arri

Saytera and her friends were naive and immature but they were a caring bunch. They desired their freedom but didn’t realize it could come at a price. Now, they were in a race against time, trying to stop a war, one that could annihilate their loved ones and their homes. It was quite an interesting and entertaining read.

I don't know how I feel about this book, I liked the plot, it was interesting and fun, but some elements of it were a mess.

Worldbuilding
This was really the deal breaker for me. This book was set in space, so sure, there are a lot of planets and explaining that needs to be done. However, only one planet and two moons are mentioned. We have no idea how settlers got to the moon, and the enmity between the moon and planet is a mess. The reason for this enmity (the moon though it had a right to eve

Actual rating: 2.5 stars

This book was pretty underwhelming. It was an odd story in that it didn't know what it really wanted to be. It sets up a bunch of different hooks, but just runs from one to another without any real idea of where the next beat will be. Female Main Character is raised on an island and is learning magic. She wants to get good enough to move onto the next island, so she can date--Oh, no, she's leavi

3,5 stars. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book.

As far as I can see Day Leitao is a new writer — and the book cover looked like many other YA fantasy romances. But there were some very pleasant surprises throughout. For one, Leitao's writing is thoughtful and evocative — without falling into the dreaded "purple prose" territory. And you can tell she has put great care into creating this world. There are layers and details we are not explicitly shown; there is a delicacy

The writing in this book felt so juvenile that I was shocked to see it wasn't the author's first book.
Reads like a middle grade but I think its supposed to be YA/new adult.

Pros:
???

Anything I have a pro for has a backhanded addition. The world is intriguing...but massively underdeveloped. The characters are diverse...but engaging. The world building doesn't exist. The chemistry between the leads is not there. The tone is all over the place. The plot is too quick and makes almost no sense except t

One of the better books I have read recently. Saytera who lives on the mainland is frustrated with her life and eventually meets Dee who is from the near by moon. There is currently a truce between the mainland and the moon when Dee captures Saytera sparks fly although both want to ignore their emotions. Action, humor and emotions make for a well rounded read. Both realize that they have something hidden in their backgrounds but lately learn the that information can be deadly.

Book Review

My favorite character is Saytera. I loved the hate to love romance in this book. And I liked the ending.
