A lovingly compiled and lavishly presented tribute to the Micro Machines brand. I was only really hoping for a coffee table book full of pics to provoke a sense of nostalgic whimsy, so I was delighted to find an incredible amount of insight into the creation of the brand itself, marketing, company culture and production tools and techniques. Bitmap Books do retro right, and looking forward to jumping into a few more of their books I have on hand.
While the writing itself is a pretty functional, piecemeal affair, the overall presentation and detail of this book is where it succeeds. You won't find a more in-depth and carefully crafted publication on Micro Machines anywhere else. This is about as definitive a book on Micro Machines you could want and it wouldn't gain anything extra from being an officially licensed publication. It's just a shame the writing couldn't have been enhanced to be a little more entertaining.
This is a book made out of love for Micromachines and as someone who grew up with this collection I loved reading more about the history of them. I missed some of my favorite pieces and I would have appreciated some more details instead of text about the actual cars themselves. However for the size of the book I think it is understandable one cannot fit in everything.
Another fantastic Bitmap Books product. Loved Micro Machines as a kid and this book provides a real inside. You would never guess how much work and passion was in making these cars and that carries through to this book.
