Oh, this was beautiful.
A love story so pure and heart-warming, a story of growth, of coming into your own, facing your fears, your weaknesses, your families, even. The main couple was nothing short of adorable, the way Yi Zhe was always so ready to do the best for Wu Tancheng, the way he loved him so whole-heartedly, with never a doubt or a fissure in his feelings, the way he was willing to sacrifice that love he felt for the sake of the other's happiness, it was nothing short of beautiful. As for Tancheng, his silent professions of love, ever constant, ever present in the little tokens and gestures of affection, his concern and care for Yi Zhe, his gratitude that he was the one who got to spend his life with him, who got to fall in love with such a wonderful person, again, it was nothing short of beautiful. And his inner conflicts were always painful to read, the way he hesitated between what he didn't yet know his heart felt and the fears of having to face something society - and his family - still won't fully accept, the heartache he experienced over the traditionalism of his own family, the choices they tried to impose on him and the way he constantly refused to choose between his love for his parents and his love for Yi Zhe, it was so heart-wrenching. And when Yi Zhe made the choice for him, it was even more painful to read.
This wasn't a novel where I cried from start to end, no - I did cry on at least 3 chapters - but it was a story that touched and moved me deeply, in its plain simplicity. It doesn't mean to be grandiose and groundbreaking, but it does carry a message within, and stays with us and makes us think.
An honourable mention to the secondary couple, Cheng Xu and Zheng YiKun, who I would have loved to read more about - theirs was the kind of love story that would have surely driven me to sobs from start to finish. Wish the author had written their novel, as well.
