Jackie Eastmon’s life changes after a brutal attack on her best friend. While getting Simone the help she needs, Jackie meets a rough, burly biker.
Henry “Volt” Adler, President of the Riot MC Jacksonville chapter, admires Jackie’s rarely found spunk and dedication to Simone. The timing is all wrong for him to pursue Jackie. He runs into her nearly two years later, and he will stop at nothing to make her his.
Jackie struggles with this bossy, alpha-male in her life. When she learns he knows who attacked Simone but hasn’t made them pay, she questions if he’s the man for her.
Upon the two-year anniversary of the attack, Simone attempts suicide, and Volt hates seeing Jacqueline hurting for her friend. He orders his brothers to make the attackers pay for what they did to Simone.
One attacker proves elusive and stalks Jackie. Volt struggles to stay on the right side of the law while protecting his woman.
Karen Renee is the author of the Riot Motorcycle Club, Beta, and O-Town series of books. She once crunched Nielsen ratings data but these days she brings her imagination to life by writing books. She has wanted to be a writer since she was very young, but it’s taken the last twenty plus years for her to amass enough courage and overall life experience to bring that dream to life. Some of those life experiences came from the wonderful world of advertising, banking, and local television media research. She is a proud wife and mother, and a Jacksonville native. When she’s not at the soccer field or cooking, you can find her at her local library, the grocery store, in her car jamming out to some tunes, or hibernating while she writes and/or reads books.
This started out really good then quickly lost all its appeal. The FMC drive me nuts. I couldn't stand her. After putting up with her ridiculous dialogue (she often sounded like a teenager from the 1950's) and awful attitude I finally started skipping through to get to the end of the book. The only reason I didn't DNF is because I hope the first REAL novel in the series is worth reading. This one was a massive failure.
This was ok. A little boring at times. I would classify as MC light. The MMCs were cute. Not a whole lot of chemistry coming from the h Jackie, but Volt was pretty obsessed with her. No cheating. No mention of ow really as none of them are in the picture. No club girls causing trouble either. Very easy read. This book is the introduction to this series. We meet some of the characters that will have books, and mentions of a second generation as well. So I'll probably continue this series for now.
Jackie met Volt on one of the most traumatic days of her life when she had to tell her best friend’s father that Simone had been viciously attacked and it would be years later before they would see each other again.
Volt is now the President of the MC and when he sees Jackie again the feelings he felt for her at their first meeting are stronger than ever. He is determined that they belong together but for that he happen they need to handle what brought them together the first night they met before it is too late.
This story takes you on an emotional rollercoaster as two people who are brought together under the worst of circumstances find the best in each other.
When her best friend is brutally assaulted Jackie goes to the MC to tell her dad and while there, she meets Volt. Now 2 years later Volt who is the president of the MC and Jackie meet again and this time he is determined to claim her, and now that her life is in danger, he will protect her no matter what. No spoilers: this is a definite must read for all MC lovers you will not be disappointed. This is a well written story which is a thrilling, intriguing and all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more in this riveting series.
With this one it was fun to see how Jackie and Volt got together. It wasn't an easy road for them, but it seemed like once both were in, they were all in and the only drama came from outside stuff that needed to be taken care of. I thought what Volt and the Riot guys did to punish those that needed it was perfect! It's just too bad that it took too long and the person that would have benefited the most wasn't around to see it done.
This one was a wild ride. It begins with a tragic event and repercussions effect everyone. There is tragedy, retaliation, hunting, punishment and sadness. Through all these things, a romance begins and flourishes. HEA, no cliffhanger. Wonderful story that kept me entertained till the very end.
HOW COULD YOU!? You made me cry and I DO NOT like to cry!!! That aside, I LOVED this book. It ended much too soon!! What it didn’t have that I would have liked? How did he get his road name? (If this was in another book, I can’t recall and would have liked it repeated.) This is a MUST READ if you are following this series and this series is a MUST READ if you are looking for a good motorcycle club series. Can’t wait to see what’s up next for Ms. Renee!! 5 Stars
When I first read this series I wanted to read more about Volt and Jackie so I am glad that this book was written. I really enjoyed this book and I have already read the other books that came before now it's time to buy the Biloxi series.
This was an awesome start to a brand-new series. We loved Volt and & Jackie's story. Talk about an alpha Volt was a total alpha no hold bars with that man he felt a connection when he met Jackie years ago but, it was not the right time for him to pursue her but, a chance meeting years later convince him it's no time like the present to make her his.
Loved Jackie she was a firecracker along with being feisty, independent take no crap kind of her, and we loved her from the moment we met her she kept things interesting. Volt was a take life by the balls kind of guy and with Jackie in his sight he was in full throttle mode. We loved how possessive and protective he was of her and believe me Jackie was a handful, did we mention she was willful?
This was yet another great read in this ongoing series. We are so loving this series and its characters so, so much. This story was full of emotion and sadness along with being intriguing, so much so that it had you engrossed in the pages the entire time.
As always you have to love its characters as Jackie and Volt were clearly meant to be together even though their journey was a bit rocky.
We loved it as it was a well written tale that was sexy and fun and one that touched the reader's emotions as well !
So I stayed up way too late finishing it! I started this morning and I couldn’t put it down. Karen Renee handled all the hard stuff beautifully. I’ll start with saying I have never experienced rape personally so my opinion is obviously not one everyone may have. I feel the way she wrote the rape details was perfect. Enough to understand how horrific it was, but not too much detail. Same with the suicide. I think giving Simone a piece of the story, but minimal dialogue helped me personally. This is Jackie’s story and too much Simone would have taken away from that. Seriously, I just keep coming back to the word beautiful. Karen Renee did an amazing job with very hard subject matter. I think Jackie is perfection! She just went up to rank as my favorite heroine ever! I think if she were weaker she would have not been able to move forward from all that happened.
So overall, beautiful, funny, sweet and sexy! I loved the light moments mixed with the sad. I’ve always loved Volt so this just increased my love for him and you know my love for a Jackie!
One of my favorite scenes was Jackie getting her cut and then Volt surprising her with a proposal right after! 💗💗💗
Just an okay read that meandered along at its own pace. Characters were just okay and for an mc retribution took one heck of a long time to come to fruition. Not enticed enough to read more from this author.
God I love Jackie and Volt, but I’m justa sucker for sassy heroines that put an alpha H in their place. Honestly loved how he was devoted to her and how strong willed she was. Recommend.
We finally get Jackie and Volt’s story, folks! And it’s a GOOD one. Jackie meets Volt after making the decision to bring in some reinforcements for her best friend after said friend is destroyed in the absolute worst, evil way that a woman can be destroyed. She’s not expecting a slightly crass, bossy biker to be in her face, but that’s what she gets with Volt. He lets her go because the timing is all wrong, but comes roaring back into Jackie’s life once he gets his own messes sorted out. The only problem? Jackie isn’t as all-in with Volt’s plan to start an “us” with him as he is with her. But Volt never was one to give up and walk away, and he’s especially determined to make Jackie his because he sees just how great their life can be together. Sure, Volt is a tad overbearing, but Jackie is a strong woman herself and she’s not above giving a little resistance and a LOT of sass when necessary to keep Volt in line, which is a must for a Riot MC man.
Volt and Jackie have a hard, bumpy road at times, but there’s no one better to have by her side when everything goes so wrong than the man who would burn down the world just to get some justice and keep Jackie safe. I loved this story because it gives more insight into just why Volt is so protective in the other books in the series, as well as giving us the whole tale of how Jackie and Volt came to be. Well done, as usual, Karen. Well done.
Amount of sex 3 / 5 How explicit is the sex scenes 3.5 / 5 Story 4.5 / 5 Overall: 4.5 / 5
Starting the Riot is the prequel in the Riot MC series written by author Karen Renee. I first read a sneak peek in the back of the sixth book, Respectable Riot, and I totally loved it! I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next, but then days passed, and I forgot about it. So, when I saw it pop up on my Kindle, I dropped everything and jumped right in!
Starting the Riot is an emotional and steamy book, and it tells the story of Volt and Jackie. Even though this book was written after Respectable Riot, it does pre-date most of the stories. Jackie first met Volt after her roommate was brutally attacked. Her roommate’s father owned a bar not too far from the school, so she went there for help.
This is where Jackie first encountered Volt, but even though they had chemistry, the timing wasn’t right. So, two years go by, and she surprisingly bumps into him again at Carmen’s, the pizza place where she worked.
I don’t want to go into too much detail as I think you should read this without any spoilers. Although so you are aware, even though the story does mention the brutal attack on Jackie’s roommate, it does not go into any specific details.
Starting the Riot is an amazing story, and I did not want to put it down. It was so well written, and one of my favorites in the series!
Simone was Jackie's best friend since she was little and they are now sharing a place together while at college. Then tragedy strikes and Simone is left a shell of herself. Since Jackie thought that there was no other choice she contracts Simone's dad for help and that’s when she meets the handsome biker Volt. The timing is off for so many reasons for things to start now between Volt and Jackie so they don't have contact for another two years. From this very first meeting Volt knows what he wants in the future and that is Jackie.
Now Volt is back and won't take no for an answer...he wants Jackie in his life and he'll prove it to her that the age difference doesn't matter. If even possible Simone had back slid even more and things don't look good. Jackie wants justice for her friend and Volt is just the man to help. Within that two years’ time Volt is now the Prez for Riots MC and has connections that just may be able to help get revenge for what happened to Simone. It’s even more important now especially since one of the guys from Simone’s gang attack is now making contact with Jackie.
I loved the connection between Volt and Jackie along with the love Jackie held for her best friend. This book is a rollercoaster of feelings and Volt and Jackie sure steamed things up. I can't wait to see what's next with the Riot MC.
Throughout the series Volt and Jackie have been a couple, not just a couple but THE couple, the President and his old lady. We finally get to go back in time and see just how the two got together, and what a story this ended up being. With some really hard subject matters, this book is pulling no punches. Volt is an uber alpha that knows what he wants and doesn't have any qualms about letting Jackie know it. Jackie thinks that Volt is crazy with some of the things he says, but she can't deny that she also feels the pull towards him. The true test is when things get a bit sticky and Jackie finds herself in a bit of trouble; will she trust Volt to keep her safe?
I am so glad we got to go back and see this story play out. Volt with his OTT alphaness and Jackie with her need for independence the two come together and make magic. Drama, danger, violence, really hot naughty bits, and some things that may need a trigger warning. There were a few moments where I found Jackie a bit... annoying but thats just IMO; this was a really good MC read. I give this 4 stars.
Starting the Riot by Karen Renee is the prequel to the Riot MC series. I ran across the book accidently and decided to read it. Even though the book is listed as a .5, it is a full length novel. Riot is a MC located in Tallahassee, Florida.
Jackie and her best friend Simone are going to school in Tallahassee. One night Simone was attacked and Jackie did everything she could to get her help. Only to have Simone move away and need so much help. Jackie continues working on her college courses wanting to help people. However waitressing at a fun place helps pay the bills. That is where she ran into Volt again.
Volt is the president of Riot MC. He is determined to make Jackie his and only his. Too bad she is not totally on board with it. To top it off someone seems to be showing up in Jackie’s life way too often. Volt is determined to keep her safe and move toward her forever. It is clear that Volt is a force to be reckoned with. Especially when changes are coming. Starting the Riot by Karen Renee was an interesting start to a new MC series.
You know how you feel, when you completely live vicariously through another couple and then it all just ends? That's exactly how I felt when I read this book. I love mainly all of Karen Renee's books mainly because they are not too crazy in the violence Department and her characters have such a unique and sensual Bond that it transcends time and it allows you to escape the daily rigors of your own life even just for 20 minutes. I did feel awful about Jacqueline's best friend. That however is to be expected when something so awful happens. This is a part of life and it's a reality that we must accept but we also should try to think about changing in every way possible. I would also rank Karen Renee as my favorite MC author of all time. I have a lot of different authors that I read for this particular genre but unfortunately some of them fall short with their plots and conclusions! I don't give five stars easily to anyone so trust me when I say this was definitely worth the ride , just like every single one of her books.
Starting the Riot was a great way to go back to the past in the Riot MC series, and I LOVED it. It all starts with Jackie's best friend, Simone, who had been brutally attacked, so Jackie is getting her help. And while Simone doesn't want Jackie to tell her family, Jackie feels like Simone will need them. This is when she meets a biker named, Volt, and little did she know that he would end up possibly being her future. Fast forward a couple of years, and Volt comes across Jackie working at a place he & his boys are eating & drinking, and now he's going to make her his. However, Jackie isn't one to just listen to any alpha, so she puts him through the paces, even though they have some very serious chemistry. There are also some big time twists which had my f-bombs dropping as those men who hurt Simone are still at large. So, hit those one click buttons to see how it all plays out, as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
This is a sweet MC with some suspense added to it. Who says opposites don't attract? Well whoever said that needs to grab a copy of this book to see just how well 2 opposite people mesh together. Jackie didn't know how much her life was going to change after the attack to her bestfriend. She does what she needs to do to make sure her bestfriend Simone is taken care of. Unbeknownst to her she caught the eye of Volt. Volt dealing with some issues of his own at the time took a step back until his life and club straightened out. Fast forward a few years and an unexpected reacquaintance between these two occurs. Jackie's sassy attitude leaves Volt wanting more of her. As the two of them travel down a road neither of them are really prepared for they both find exactly what they need. Volt is a man of his word, and will not let anything happen to Jackie.
(Volt & Jackie) TRIGGERS: date rape drug, sexual assault, assault, vandalism, mental health, stalking. So, I really enjoyed this story. It was really hot and gritty. After her roommate is assaulted, Jackie makes the difficult decision to let her friends’ parents know what happened. This is how she encounters Volt. Two years later they run into each other again and he's got plans to make her his. Even though Jackie is continuing on with her life, she hasn't forgotten what happened to her friend and wants the people responsible found. Thing is… the responsible party is looking for her. The only thing I wished with this book was for more of a climax, more of a bang. The book has the same steady flow with no real “edge of your seat” moment. But I still enjoyed it.
Kept me reading. Very gritty story with lots of feelings, danger, love, and family. A couple of times, I actually had tears in my eyes. Volt was direct, knew what he wanted, and went for it. Jacqueline was hesitant about what she wanted until she met Volt. I loved her willingness to accept Volt's attentions and assistance. She gave as good as she got but was still innocent of the MC life. I enjoyed all of the steam, bluntness, pain, family, and love. I recommend this story.
I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
Volt is an up front kind of guy. He sees what he wants and he goes for it. He wants Jackie. He met her when her friend was hurt, but waited two years before he made his move. After her friend's trouble, Jackie decided on a different major at school. Volt is ready to support her in any way she needs and when trouble finds her, he is there to keep her safe. The guys who hurt Jackie's friend will pay, it might take some time, but Volt will make sure it happens. She doesn't know much about his world, will she be willing to stay with him if she knew everything?
Starting the Riot is a prequel to the Riot MC series, and is Jackie and Volt's story. I loved reading their story and the characters in from the other books before they met the loves of their lives. I have read several of the other books and discovered I missed a few, and look forward to reading them as well. I would recommend not just this book, but the entire series for anyone who love MC romance.

Jackie is a strong woman and surviving her life has proved just that. Volt is perfect for her. The up and downs and the context within this book will draw you in. Excellent writing with an explosive storyline.
~~~~~~~~~~Tracy's ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Jackie's life changed the day her best friend's life took a dark turn. It was the day that she met Henry "Volt" Adler. Two years pass and they meet again and this time Volt is not going to let her go, but when the past comes back with a vengeance it may be a challenge for them both. Wow! What a story. I loved every single word. This story was riveting and I couldn't put it down. Characters that jumped off the pages and came to life. Amazing writing and an author that I will read again and again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!
This is the couple that started it all in my mind. Jackie and Volt. They hold the club together. Everyone is dependent on them to help guide the way.
This story takes us to the beginning. Where it all began. We see that not everything was roses between these two. We see cracks in their armor as individuals and how they make each other stronger.
Volt finds the love of life with Jac. Her best friend is horrible gang rape and is unable cope with the situation. Jac is trying to move on with her life. I enjoyed reading about the other MC members and how each wanted to assist Jac in finding justification for her friend.
